Nano Clone vs. Small Clone
One of the first effects pedals I ever purchased as a kid (along with a Bigg Muff and a FL9 Flanger), was the Small Clone. I never liked the sharp corner bulky box, and eventually the unit went out on me. I've been through the whole line of Boss pedals (CE2, CE3, CE5, etc.), along with various multieffects units, but never could find the same lush-sounding chorus that my original box gave me. Recently, I discovered the Nano Clone, and thought I'd found Nirvana... my old Small Clone in a much smaller and more rugged housing. Well... I was sorely disappointed. This unit sounds very thin once engaged. I contacted EH to inquire if there might be a defect. They sent me a reply saying that it was not the same bucket brigade technology as the original Small Clone, and these were not even close to the same unit. So I guess the implied name (Nano Clone vs. Small Clone), is the only thing that is similar. EH would not take the unit back, and said I would have to deal directly with the retailer (not this one, by the way, so no offense guys). I haven't heard back from them either. Oh well. If you want the best, go back to the source and by a Small Clone reissue. I've heard the vintage ones have a little better sound, but I wouldn't trust the switches holding up this many years. Just my two cents...
