AKG H85 Suspension Mount
As an essential accessory for such an impressive microphone, you\'d expect AKG\'s H85 Suspension Mount to be a sturdy, yet precision-engineered piece of audio hardware, capable of holding its own in the rough and tumble world of semi-professional music recording. Sadly not, as I have found to my cost. The suspension harness can best be described as \'flimsy\' and apparently designed for a completely different microphone - my C414 wobbled around alarmingly and the elasticated harness has a distinctly cheap, knicker-elastic feel. Annoyingly, I can\'t actually tell you what it\'s like to record with, on account of the fact that the \'S\' shaped plastic bridge connecting the mount to the holder snapped clean in two the first time I screwed it into the stand. Hopeless, and at £45 to replace, not a cheap problem to fix. I\'m on the look-out for a cost-effective and robust alternative. Either that, or I\'ll knock up my own mount using a coat hanger and some rubber bands. Got to be more effective than the H85!
C414 Shockmount
This shockmount is very weak. Mine shattered when dropped from a small height onto a soft floor. So unless you can find another mount for this mic - be VERY CAREFULL with it.
AKG 414 Shockmount
Well, I've just done a recording with one of these housing an AKG 414, all went well. It does its job as a shockmount very well, eliminating most vibrations from the mic. However, there is a design flaw. There is a small S Shaped piece of plastic linking the mount itself to the stand attatching part of the mount. It is very weak. Mine broke whilst adjusting the angle of the mount. NOT GOOD. This device is far too delicate to actually use.
