String Thickness

I am only commenting on the thickness/guage of these strings.

40 for an E is far too thin for a bass in my opinion. A bass should play like a bass not a guitar!

45 for an E as minimum unless your a beginner because thinner means easier to play. With a 40 you dont get that solid bass feel.

45 to 55 for an E is ideal, 55 is maybe too heavy but playable.

50 is a compromise, but certain basses would benifit from 45, eg. warwick\'s, peavey\'s.

Warwick Red Box Bass Strings

These strings are EXCELLENT, great value for money, great tone, great string! Considering “decent” bass strings cost way into twenty quid these strings offer a cheap alternative to other expensive brands of string. Having tried several brands on string including DR, Rotosound, D’Addario, Fender etc I can honestly say for at such a low price nothing beats these strings in tone and strength. OKOK! so they don’t have the great features of over strings like nanocoating on the string to protect it from grease and they are not tapered, (infact they are not tapered around any side of the string, which does get quite annoying when placing the strings on the tuning pegs) BUT they are 15 quid!! Perfect for those last minute gigs when you don’t have enough time/patience/bother to boil your strings and you REALLY need that bright snappy tone for your next bass solo! I stuck some on my MusicMan Stingray 5 and the tone was bright, tight and very balanced, after a few months the strings like any strings do become darker in tone but I’m still using the same set after 4 months of constant gigging and they still perform well for slap bass and high-octave soloing. So if you need some new strings quick and cheap, I recommend these, especially from Dolphin Music's great service.
