Edirol R-09
A very useful recording devices but very expensive based on construction quality. Have not had time to evaluate full performance, but initial tests leave me relatively satisfied up to now.
I am still awaiting comments from Dolfin Music with regard to my order, I thought I was to receive a carry case to hold recorder with my unit but instead I received earphones, Note; 1 both were listed on my order. Note 2 Although the unit is small enough to fit into one pocket I think a suitably designed belt pouch or case is essential for hand free use.

Although I'm not a professional musician, I use a lot of sound files, which range from web to CD quality. I've mostly used Sony's high-density mini-disc so far, but this piece of kit turns out to be everything I need. Files are easily transferrable and manageable, and I have even used it with a holophonic microphone, and the quality is superb. The inbuilt microphone is surprisingly good. Feels a bit lightweight, but that is deceptive. This is serious equipment.I would have liked an inbuilt mike stand connector, rather than having to buy one separately, but, hey ...!

Very user friendly, good quality microphones too. The line-in indicator is a very handy tool for how I'm using it(recording live shows) and the date/time stamp feature is invaluable.
Just feels a little bit flimsy and 'cheap', and the lack of a rechargeable battery pack is slightly annoying.
Impressed with its flexibility and ease of use.
Give me a chance to use it for longer than a month, these things take a long time to firstly get familiar with, and then discover the good & bad points.
However, at this stage, after some 12 hours recording different live material, I am impressed with its flexibility and ease of use, there are a few points that I am not too happy with, firstly its use of Joint Stereo in MP3 mode, an option to use pure stereo would
be an advantage on quality grounds, at lower bit rates than 320k this is not so important. Serious sessions done in wave mode
consume vast amounts of card space, hence I prefer to use the MP3 option at 320k.
A usefull addition (accessory) would be a windsock to guard against low frequency wind noise when recording outdoors with the
internal mics.
There is an issue with bursts of digital noise which occour occasionally when in MP3 mode, this may be due to the particular SD card used (Toshiba 1gig) these bursts appear in the 8-12kHz region and produce sharp ticks, and show up as bursts of glitches in Sound Forge, easily removed with smoothing. These bursts are very infrequent, seldom troublesome, but worth comment.
