Great mic
I bought this so i didn\'t have to use my PC mic for recording vocals anymore. It\'s a great mic. Alot of people complain about the levels, hoever, if you set it up correctly, the levels are fine. If you install the softpre application, you can easily adjust it. I had some problem with it being recognised by ASIO4ALL but that was a fault on my end. I\'d accidentally changed the drivers. I would recommend this microphone for someone looking to record vocals and instruments on a budget!
Samson C03u
The microphone is amazing, you have issues to begin with because the microphone only plays out of 1 speaker (the left 1) but after installing it with all the www.samsontech.com software and drivers, it works amazingly good. Recommended to anyone, the above reviewers seemed to be having the problem of which the device cannot be turned up or down to gain a specific DB of sound. But once installed you can monitor it in real time with the soft-pre-amp.
Low levels
Only had this for 1 hour so far... just to say that I also had the low levels issue but solved it by moving it to another USb port on my laptop. This is a brand new laptop (Philips) running Windows Vista.
Note that the Softpre applet mentioned in the manual should NOT be used with Vista.
Anyway, it\'s working now and 100 times better than the laptop mic!
Beware
I bought one of these as part of the podcasting pack, where it comes with a case and stand.
The microphone looks great, but that is where the greatness ended in my experience.
The basic issue I have is that I cannot get enough volume out of it. I have tried on several different PCs all with the same problem. The overall level is around 20 percent of what I would expect, and boosting it artificially within software just creates an unpleasant sound. The recorded sound is great, just far too quiet.
I had a long discussion over email with Samson Tech about it, but could not resolve the issue.
I cannot believe I am the only one experiencing this.
Not sure why the other person is having a problem monitoring the level. The bundled software showed the level just fine, as does other audio software. The bigger problem is it is just too low.
Now I am left with an expensive paperweight. Beware.
Crap
I sold it as soon as i brought it cause you cannot monitor what you record in real time with any software so i didn't like it at all.
