I jumped from gina in 1997 to Sea Sound in 1999, to Motu 896 in 2004 and finally to de incredible YAMAHA 01x in 2006, all in one, is really good it is a dream come true for a producer and a musician with no time to waist installing hardware that makes you crazy, I do jingles, tv comercials, and produce some comercial music also with a mac pro and logic pro 8, runs perfectly, noise level is really low, automation is breath taking and in real time, monitoring is really accurate, it makes my life so much easy and happy, no bugs no extrage noises.
The Yamaha 01X sounds, works, and looks amazing !, what else can you ask for ?

Utilising Yamahas latest mLAN chipset, the Yamaha O1x was designed in order to combine everything customers will need to transform any computer equipped with a firewire port into a professional quality music production system. However, although the eventual release date was somewhat later than most people expected, the original releases still failed to provide all users with suitable drivers that could work effectively on all systems, resulting in an anything but a trouble free system. I am happy to report that Yamaha have since been able to rectify most of the original flaws with a plethora of free upgrades via their web site, and only now is mLAN really starting to prove why more and more people are starting to adopt Yamaha’s way of thinking.
In essence the O1X is an external audio/midi interface equipped with 2 XLR inputs, both equipped with 48v phantom power and six, quarter inch, balanced line inputs, one of which being a very useful high impedance input. Two aux outputs are provided along with R & L monitor sends, a stereo headphone jack and a digital output for digital effects units or CD burners. On the front panel the O1x has eight motorised channel faders and a generous array of digital effects and dynamics, which are surprisingly good quality for the money. On closer inspection of the O1x’s control service mode, it is apparent that this too is also of good quality, allowing users to make adjustments to EQ, Pan and even plug-in settings, without having to touch the mouse once. It is also worth noting that since the O1X was released mainly for Cubase and Logic users, many other leading software manufactures have added remote control compatibility to their latest software releases.
If asked to comment on any disadvantages of this unit, I would say that the multi-purpose faders and pan pots can sometimes cause confusion and the control surface can sometimes be a bit awkward. However, in time users should become familiar with it. The most common problem I have encountered whilst using this unit is that on its own the O1X only offers 2 XLR (phantom powered) inputs. However, the ever increasing number of new mLAN products appearing on the market mean that expanding this product to your specific needs has never been easier.
Generally, I feel that the advantages of this unit far out way the disadvantages. The good build quality and impressive display make this feature-rich unit the perfect choice for many project studios. Future proofing is truly achievable and although similar products have since been released by the likes of digi-design and M-Audio the O1X continues to be the most versatile of all these products on the market.

Amazing unit, never mind the price. It's like aliens made this thing. Excellent build quality and it's not even made in China (Japan)! Would give 10/10 but I am disappointed with Yamaha Canada service and support (but then again I'm annoyed by most Canadian things). Truly revolutionary product. Yamaha claims that all you need is this rig along with mic(s), monitors and computer is really true.
