Clavia Nord Stage 76

After 3 or so weeks playing and gigging with this red beast I'm in love! It has lived up to my expectations in every way.

I had several reservations about buying the stage 76, since it would be replacing two full size (88 key) yamaha keyboards.

Firstly, I was unsure that there would be enough keys. However - 76 keys is absolutely plenty for me, even when I'm playing jazz requiring a wide range of notes. The size and weight of the keyboard are incredibly low for such a powerhouse of an instrument - meaning that even in its flightcase, it can fit widthways across the backseats in my car.

Secondly, I was worried that the acoustic pianos wouldn't live up to my P120s yamaha digital piano which has a superb action (and if anyone wants to buy it its for sale on http://www.musicalinstrumentsales.co.uk/photoad.php?adId=4123 !) However, the acoustic pianos are fantastic, with massively realistic fullness and character - i know this is blasphemy to piano players but I now prefer playing the stage to the real thing! You can also download piano samples from clavia.com for free as they develop more.

Recreations of rhodes, wurlitzers, clavs, and hammond organs are stunning, actually rivalling the original instruments, with the ability to put them (and any other instrument on the stage) through amp, overdrive, wah, tremelo, phaser, and chorus effects (to name just a few) at the touch of a button.

As a complete novice at playing synthesizers, I was apprehensive at being able to operate the dedicated synth section. However, it is very user friendly, with the ability to create great pads, basses, and leads, with just a bit of knob turning and button pushing.

The user friendliness and performability of the nord stage is one of its finest attributes, and one of the reasons I switched from yamaha. With no menu-diving, and intuitive operation of keyboard splits, layers, programs, effects, and octave shifts, it means that you can happily adjust things whilst playing; impossible on most keyboards without disrupting the sound.

Basically it feels like a superb sounding, easy to use analogue instrument, with the digital benefits of program storage, low size and weight, and massive versatility. I can go from a jazz trio, to funk and soul, all the way to drum and bass, with just one (very good looking) keyboard.

A truly beautiful, soulful instrument: the high price reflects the superlative quality.

The delivery and service by Dolphin Music was also impressive, from exchanging myspace addresses with the helpful and knowledgeable sales guy, to getting the delivery less than 24 hours after ordering.

I have been using this keyboard for several months and I have to say it is the best keyboard I have ever had. The B3 sound is the most realistic of any synth I have ever heard. In fact, it rivals the monster itself. The piano samples are great, the feel is great, and the effects are awsome. I just can't say enough about this unbelievable work of art.
