Nord Modular G2

In 1998 Clavia introduced the Nord Modular synthesizer. The award-winning Nord Modular system is based on the traditional analog patch synthesizer. Create your own synthesizers from scratch on a computer screen by connecting virtual modules with virtual cables.

The G2 provides a wide spectrum of modules spanning from traditional synthesizer building blocks such as oscillators, filters and envelope generators to modern effects processors plus an array of special purpose modules. This powerful tool enables you to create totally unique sounds and also use it as a traditional synthesizer.

Since the start of Clavia in 1983 we have always strived to make it easier for musicians to create. Our ambition springs from a belief that technology alone cannot make good music, but it provides great means to support creative music making.

Although the G2 is a very complex instrument, we don't compromise on simplicity. Technical complexity is essential to the musical possibilities. Simplicity demands a well thought-out user interface. We aim to be functional in a simple way, yet technically fulfilled.

Live Performance

Whether you want to play traditional synth patches or control step sequencers in real-time or make cool sounds with delays, reverb and audio processing, the G2 offers plenty of knobs and controllers to tweak! Talk about sequencing - tweaking a step sequencer will be a lot of fun and extremely easy thanks to the real-time editing controls and the visual feedback from the LCD’s. The fantastic Morph capabilities on the G2 offer enormous sonic variations. The G2's 8 Morph Groups per patch let you control sets of parameters from single internal control sources - and via MIDI. In fact, the Pitch Stick on the G2 can also be used to control an entire Morph Group!

4 analog Audio inputs including an XLR mic input with built-in amplifier give you plenty of room for inserting external signals and patch them! For example, you could plug in four external audio sources (or two stereo if you like) and mix and process the audio through various FX modules of the G2. Or plug in a microphone in the XLR input and use the great Vocoder module for vocal adventures. The crystal clear 24-bit, 96 kHz A/D and D/A converters on the G2 ensure highest possible audio quality!

G2 specifications

The Nord Modular G2 family consists of two hardware models: the 3-octave Nord Modular G2 Key and the 19", 1 Unit high Nord Modular G2 Engine. They are built around the same type of electronics and have exactly the same processing power. The Nord Modular G2 Engine lacks a control panel and has to be controlled entirely from the Editor (or via MIDI).

General features

  • Programmable polyphonic modular synthesizer
  • Over 150 different types of software modules including oscillators, filters, envelope generators, vocoder, string oscillator, reverb, delays, pitch tracker, sequencers, LFOs, MIDI modules etc.
  • Self-optimizing modules for bigger patches/greater polyphony
  • Instant access to 120 patch parameters from the front panel
  • 8 Morph groups per patch which lets you control sets of parameters from single control sources (Mod Wheel, Pitch Stick, Keyboard Velocity, Keyboard Range, Keyboard Aftertouch, Control Pedal, Sustain Pedal or selectable Knobs)
  • 8 storable parameter Variations per patch lets you use each patch as a unique synthesizer
  • Performances (multi patch set-ups)
  • Internal audio and MIDI buses between patches
  • Maximum 32 voices polyphony depending on patch complexity
  • 4-part multitimbral
  • Holds patches (sounds) and operating system in Flash memory. Software upgradable via the computer. Dynamical patch and Performance storage (the number of patches that can be stored depends on their size (number and types of modules used))
  • Internal RAM for reverb and delay effects, physical modelling and more
  • 24-bit internal processing at 96 kHz sampling frequency

MIDI features

All parameters, except for the Master Level, can transmit and receive MIDI Control Change messages. Notes can be received over the entire MIDI range. MIDI Clock Synchronizing. MIDI SysEx Dumps of patches and Performances. MIDI automation is possible with the internal MIDI modules.
