I have been using this in a small band situation. I use it with KOSS spark plug earphones. Light weight, powerfull, excellent quality. Sound is great and I don't go home with ringing ears anymore. I highly recomend this product, just wish it had a belt clip and rounded corners. Sel your monitors and buy these!!

Are you sick of your other stage members telling you that your amp/monitor is too loud? Can't you stand not being able to hear the monitor feed?

Well with the MA400, these problems are a thing of the past. The MA400 enables you to take your own signal (whether it be a microphone or instrument) and directly mix it with a monitor feed. The beauty of the MA400 is that rather than relying on the sound guy to set the monitor levels, it is YOU who is in complete control. This is such an advantage because the sound is exactly how you want it.

My current setup is so that I can monitor my bass guitar. I have a Yamaha RBX375 (active cicuitry so it gives a near line level output), a VOX Venue 100 Bass amp, a Behringer BLE100 Bass limiter/enhancer and the headphones which came with my SE W800i mobile phone (sound isolating).

I have it connected so that my bass guitar goes into the Behringer pedal, into the amp and the send from the amp goes into the MA400 (via an XLR -> Jack Cable/Adaptor) and from the MA400 back into the amp. The monitor feed which would usually go into a stage monitor plugs into the monitor input on the MA400 (an XLR -> Jack Cable/Adaptor may be needed).

Once the setup is complete and the cables are nice and tidy :) there are two settings on the MA400: mono and stereo. When I had the switch on mono and was only using one earplug on my headphones, I could hear my bass guitar well, but the monitor feed was quiet and distorted. At first I thought it could have just been the monitor feed, but then I switched it onto stereo and inserted both earplugs into my ears - WOW!!! The quality of the monitor feed AND bass guitar were simply supreme! Amazing depth and clarity to the sound. To make it easier to distinguish between the monitor feed and your own instrument/mic, Behringer have cleverly used the power of stereo quite well. They send the monitor feed to only the right earplug and the instrument/mic to both earplugs. In my opinion this is much better than if the monitor feed was audible in both ears.

I haven't tried the MA400 with anything other mic/instrument yet as I have had it less than a week and haven't had chance to yet. I would suggest that if you do not have sound isolating headphones, then you buy some before buying the MA400 as the most accurate sound can only be produced with sound isolating headphones.

However, there are some downsides to the MA400: the product doesn't run off of batteries so you need to find a spare plug socket nearby when using this product. This can get annoying because it leaves you with a box with approximately five, yes FIVE! cables running from it! Although it is very simple to setup nevertheless.

Another slightly annoying feature of the MA400 is that the connectors for the mic only support XLR connectors and the monitor input only supports a jack connection. It would be far more useful if they used XLR/Jack connectors (these are connectors which contain a jack plug within an XLR plug - madness, i know...).

However, for the price, the MA400 is essentially a high quality, wired, personal in-ear monitoring system with endless uses! If this is what you're looking for then the MA400 is definately for you!
