Twenty-five years after the introduction of the first Portastudio, the DP-01, DP-01FX and DP-01FX/CD 8-track Digital Portastudios make hard disk recording affordable and simple to use for all musicians. Shattering the confusing page-shift-menu interface popular with most other digital recorders, the DP-01 series features the one-knob-per-function design that has made Tascam cassette Portastudios the choice of thousands of musicians.

The DP-01 has two microphone inputs on 6.3-mm TRS jacks for dual mono or stereo recording. Up to eight tracks can be recorded at uncompressed CD quality to an internal 40GB hard drive and there is an additional stereo master track for recording a mix. Each channel of the DP-01 has a fader plus dedicated controls for pan, effects send, high EQ and low EQ. For each channel, the user can select the operating frequencies of both the low and high EQs. An LC display shows meters and helps editing settings and locate points. The DP-01 has a USB 2.0 jack for file backup, importing and exporting tracks and transferring mixes to a computer. There are analogue RCA line outputs, an SPDIF optical line output, stereo return, headphone out with level control and a MIDI out for MIDI Timecode or MIDI Clock. Track editing functions include cut, copy, paste, move, erase, silence and multiple levels of undo/redo.

The DP-01FX/CD has all of the above plus a CD+RW burner / CD-ROM drive for creating own Standard Audio CDs or backing up complete projects or single audio files.
