Recording any instrument is easy. Just plug in, check your levels, and hit record. Confidence Recording will draw the wave shape on to your screen as you record so you know you are getting the take. Hear internal effects on input, even while you record. If you need help getting a project started, choose from hundreds of preset sounds that will help ignite your creativity. Once you have recorded your tracks, you can visually arrange, edit, and mix your music with point-and-click ease—all in one view.

Create backing tracks in a matter of seconds. Find the perfect loop in the Loop Explorer, then click and drag it to start building your arrangement. You can chop up your beats, add dynamics, and create remixes with just a few clicks of the mouse. The enhanced Loop Construction View allows you to take control of your loops—tweak the pitch, pan, and gain of slices in any ACID™-format loop. SONAR Home Studio includes a loop library to get started, and you can create loops out of any recorded audio.

With different views including Arrange, Piano Roll, Drum Editor, and Loop Construction, you can zoom in and make pinpoint edits to your project. Change the tempo and pitch; normalize or reverse the audio; preview, move, extend or cut certain sections; add track envelopes. Use many of the same advanced features found in SONAR including multi-clip edits, loop-rolling, fade drawing, and more. And with non-destructive editing, and unlimited undo/redo, you can always change your mind about an edit at any time.

Mixing in SONAR Home Studio is easy with new Track Icons—no more guessing which track contains guitar or which track has the vocals. Mute, Solo, Pan, and change the Gain all in one view to achieve the best mix. Add effects to your mix, and A/B them with just a click of a button. Professional metering provides the visual feedback you need for better real-time mixing. Mix in a more traditional studio console view or use your own control surface hardware to get the feel of real knobs and faders.

Everything is laid out in an intuitive interface that lets you quickly record, edit, arrange, and mix your music. No matter what you want to record—guitars, keyboards, vocals, live turntable scratches, CD samples, or any other sound—SONAR Home Studio puts it all together seamlessly.

SONAR Home Studio gives you hundreds of sounds to get started. It includes the Virtual Sound Canvas (modeled after the famous Roland® instrument), Dreamstation vintage analog synth, and Sfz SoundFont player. In addition, you can add your favorite DXi or VSTi instruments—available separately.

Get more synth sounds by patching Project5™, Kinetic™, Reason™, ReBirth™, and other ReWire compatible synths right into SONAR Home Studio’s Synth Rack. Or add advanced audio recording, mixing, and editing capabilities to Kinetic or Reason.

SONAR Home Studio is great for Remixers and DJs who need powerful looping tools. The Loop Explorer allows you to find perfect loop, preview it in the tempo and key of your song, and quickly drag it into your project. Browse through the included Cakewalk Loops sample library, or create your own loops using any MP3, WAV file, or your own recorded tracks.

SONAR Home Studio integrates notation tools that allow you to create and print your own musical scores. Record and transcribe performances using any MIDI instrument, or just point and click to edit notes directly on the staff. Print up to 24 staves per page, with chord charts and symbols, lyrics, dynamic markings, and more.

SONAR Home Studio provides a fast and effective way to create, edit, and dub soundtracks for digital video files. Just import and sync a Windows AVI, or MPEG video to your SONAR Home Studio project. Make and edit soundtracks and sound effects for band videos or home movies.

All the professional effects you need are included in SONAR Home Studio: Chorus, Delay, EQ, Flange, Reverb, and many more. Add hundreds of additional DirectX and VST effects—available separately.

Export to many Internet-friendly formats including MP3* and WMA. Use the included Cakewalk Pyro Express to burn your own audio CDs—perfect for distributing your music on CD, listening to mixes on different stereos, or just enjoying your music on the go. You can also rip tracks off CD to remix in SONAR Home Studio.

SONAR Home Studio includes comprehensive tutorials to help you get a project started. You get the “Getting Started” printed manual to get you up and running quickly. In addition, you also get unparalleled free customer service and access to an online user community.

Phonic 1860 DX Powered Mixer

Rating: 8/10

After 4 years of constant rehearsing and gigging, the Studiomaster powered mixer we'd been relying on had the audio equivalent of a cardiac arrest and everything went strangely quiet. After a bit of toing and froing, we bought the Phonic from Dolphin. First bit of good news - it's very compact and quite light - a big plus when every gig seems to be up 5 flights of stairs or a rusty fire escape. Another plus - lots of input and output flexibility and a simple and controllable DSP FX unit that makes getting a good vocal and instrument sound pretty easy. Bonus: an iPOD channel for all our backing tracks and interval music. So far so good. Most of the volume and headroom seems to come in the last 10% of fader travel, so early gig-arrival, good soundchecks and/or a roadie with well-tuned ears are a must - otherwise, no complaints. Very good bang-for-the-buck and looks well built - sounds a bit like my first wife - lets hope the Phonic's performance backs it up. Unfortunately hers didn't. But thats rock n roll.

Cakewalk SONAR Home Studio Version 4

I did a lot of reserach before buying Cakewalk SONAR Home Studio Version 4, to ensure that it suited my requirements which was it would see plug in vst & dx virtual instruments and also that it would see my 4x4 midi interface, plus straight forward to use.
I have been using sequencers for over 30 years so my leanning curve should be quick.
I was not disapointed this is a excerlent basic sequencer with lots of bolt on's easy to use, and was able to pick up 6 virtual synths and my midi interface + all the other plug ins on my PC, good start.
The layout is simple and easy to use and there are plenty of options for changing settings and views, if anyone has used cakewalk programs before there are lots of similaritites in this program.
This is a great program, i have no complaints with and that says something, it does everything i whant it to do.
I have 6 virtual synths + 2 hardware synths
It has a soundcard profiler which does a fair job, but you will need to fine tune the setting from default a bit and you will decrease any audio and midi latencies by a mile. do your resarch and understand before adjusting.
I have this program running with no latency errors
I have seen some review saying it is not easy to use for the begginner, if you have been working with sequencers for over a year this one is a doddle to use
People new to sequencing and audio/midi will struggle with any sequencing program, it is a big learning curve, do some reserch
This Program would be a very good place to start for reasonable money.
