The plug does it exactly what it says.
However, you can just get a jack to mini jack adapter for £29 less, that will do the same.....

I've just bought one of these. I have an iBook mac laptop and wanted to record my guitar into garageband. I had a look round to see what was available and saw the GuitarPlug. It works! First try and the mac picked it up and allowed me to record a track straight in. I haven't worked out how to play other tracks as a backing yet but it must be possible. Great product for the price and to get started recording own playing
