I bought these along with an EMU 1212 PCI sound card and some Lynx Balanced TRS cables, and boy, was it a good purchase!!

The sound quality is fantastic, even compared to my high end Hi-Fi/home cinema speaker system costing 10 times the amount.

Good crisp treble, punchy mid and a good amount of bass for a small (5") driver. Very loud with no trace of distortion as I have not yet managed to push them hard enough without my head hurting!

An excellent choice for low budget home studio owners, or people looking to get into the recording/mastering business, like myself. My only gripe, hence the 9 out of 10, is that the speakers do warm up a lot due to the internal amps and no heatsinks on the rear, but this is not a major factor as it doesn’t detract from the usability of the speakers.

Also, a centre notch on the volume control would be nice, but the scale is accurate enough to balance the volumes with.

A fantastic product, that punches well above its pricetag.

What can I say..... excellent speakers for this budget price!! Loud enough to be "too loud" for a room (if you turn them, up to eleven)but still reasonably clear at high volume.However ...people dont buy small speakers to fill Wembley! These little beauties are GREAT!! The headphone input on front is handy,but even more so is the front Aux in, as you can ...say plug in your ipod or whatever and blast away. As for recording in your room,then these little monitors are exactly what I was looking for..without breaking the bank...you get great sound!! Simple as that!!...combined with Dolphin music's great service.....you cant ask for more!!

If you're looking for a fairly compact set of reference monitors(6.5"wide by 8.75"deep)these are hard to beat at the price. They give a nice flat response, the separation is excellent and at home studio levels you are unlikely to need to drive the amps hard.

The back panel is more or less identical to the ESI nEar 05 which sugggests the internals may not be too dissimilar. Both have Kevlar LF drivers & Silk HF drivers, similar power and a similar frequency response.
(the BX5A edges it on response & has a slightly lower crossover frequency). The main difference is the cosmetics and you shouldn't really be basing your purchase on their looks.

Before anything, thank you Dolphin for the great assistance with ordering and follow up!

Now the monitors: these are my first real monitors and I must say without any exaggeration they they are awesome! They are very well built, feel sturdy and heavy and quality materials have been used for their making. Beautiful aspect, too, I might say, looking at the fine curvy edges.

The sound is what I expected from them: clear, crisp, transparent and with a nice stereo image sound. Someone said they are lacking a bit in bass, but I'd have to say that's not true at all. My opinion is they're very balanced bass-wise speaking, offering not too less but also not too much bass, so the sound is very natural and the bass is present just enough to "color" the sound.

Since I have them, these speakers have help my recordings change in a dramatic way and the sound is so much more "professional" sounding since a lot of attention to detail is provided as they're being played.

If taken care off properly, these babies can serve your monitoring for years to come, and I know this may be just my not-yet-professional recording engineer opinion, but I could even use them in a professional level studio with no compromise.

One thing I know for sure: I am not going to have to upgrade due to sound quality reasons for years to come!

For what I paid for this,it's excellent.It amplifies loudly and clearly enough such that I can sit in close proximity to a drum kit whilst it is being played and listen for any phasing issues etc...So if it was a choice between this and building a soundproof control room for the purpose,I know which I'd choose.It does exactly what is supposed to do,amplifies headphones,I've as yet experienced no distortion with it either.It's also handy to take out of the desk for the band when laying down guide tracks.

FEATURES:
Everything that you really need.
QUALITY:
Very well built,Solid,heavy and made with quality materials.I do agree that,could use some grills over the tweeter and woofer.
VALUE:
Compared to other monitors in it\'s price range, there is no doubt,the BX5 is the bang for the pounds.
DESIRABILITY:
Basing speaker purchase on aesthetics is idiotic.
SOUND:
the sound quality is top notch not obtrusive very crisp
EASE OF USE:
Plug them in,turn them on,max it up.It Does get easier.
SUPPORT:
I\'ve dealt with M-audio support for other products and would say that they are average.
OVERALL:
I am satisfied.I only record vocals.but music and other recordings come through with detail

These are the first real monitors I have bought and they are certainly better than the hi-fi speakers I was using before. They open up the sound so you could hear the different sections, though I felt they had a little trouble with the low end in complex parts. I'm currently using them in a small production studio used mainly for voice recording and am very pleased with them.

Great monitors! Just had these delivered and can say its money well spent. Considered the Yamaha powered, but these are far better.
Wonderful mid, and not tiring. Flat and neutral, but not bass shy. You'll hear accurate bass, and hear the detail, not bloomy, overblown coloured bass.
Great Buy!
