The iBox 48-SA shares the stunning, sculpted look of the latest generation Soundscape units: Soundscape 32, Soundscape 16, Apogee I/O 896 and other new iBox models. And, just as you would expect from Sydec Audio Engineering, it combines superlative sonic quality with the legendary Soundscape build quality.
Yet, there is a lot more to this unit than great looks and great sound… with a TDM expansion port, twelve stereo AES/EBU inputs and outputs (twenty-four audio channels in each direction) and twenty-four balanced analogue inputs and outputs, its flexibility will make it invaluable in a wide range of configurations:
PC native system users can connect the TDM expansion port to a Mixpander for the ultimate input, output, DSP-powered mixing and processing solution (“Mixpander Bundle”), allowing the computer to communicate with professional digital or analogue audio equipment.
And of course, the appeal of the iBox 48-SA is not limited to Soundscape users. Its front panel controls allow it to be used as an audio converter for any other equipment compatible with either one of its supported formats.
Features
- Professional Multiformat/Multichannel Converter for Studio, Live and Broadcast Applications
- 12 stereo AES/EBU digital inputs and outputs (24 input and output channels) at up to 96kHz
- The first 4 AES/EBU stereo inputs (8 audio channels) feature Sample Rate Conversion according to the current Sample Rate setting of the unit. This feature can be switched on or off via the front panel (when the iBox is used in standalone mode) or in software (when the iBox is connected to a Mixpander).
- 24 balanced analog inputs and outputs at up to 96kHz
- 64 channel Expansion Bus port
- Word/SuperClock input and output
- Video Sync input functionality for the WordClock input: the Video Sync signal can be converted to WordClock internally and transmitted via the WordClock output
- MIDI input and output
- Connects to Mixpander via Expansion Bus port
Similar to the iBox 64-MADI-SA but without the MADI connectivity, the iBox 48-SA finds many applications. When used as part of a Mixpander Bundle, it provides 24 analogue inputs and outputs and 12 or 24 AES/EBU inputs and outputs. If more analogue connections are required, the 3 AES/EBU ports can be used to hook-up another iBox 48-SA.
The back panel features:
- 1 TDM Expansion Bus port for connection to a Mixpander.
- 3 AES/EBU sub-D connectors providing 24 inputs and outputs at up to 48kHz and either 12 or 24 AES/EBU inputs and outputs at up to 96kHz (for use with sub-D to XLR looms *).
- 24 balanced analogue inputs and outputs at up to 96kHz on sub-D connectors (for use with sub-D to XLR looms *).
- An IEC connector for the self-switching, 90-250 VAC power supply.
The aluminium front panel features, from left to right:
- The power switch.
- A stereo headphone output.
- The input/output routing matrix, used to set up global connections between the AES/EBU and analogue inputs and outputs and the TDM Expansion Bus port. When the unit is connected to a Mixpander the inputs and outputs can be routed individually from the Soundscape Mixer software. So for example, input 1 could be set to AES/EBU, output 1 could be set to analogue and so on: all combinations are possible.
- The Sample Rate selection button, used to select a sample rate when the iBox is the Clock Master, and Sample Rate indicator LEDs.
- The Clock source selector: the source can be internal (the iBox can generate WordClock), external (WordClock or SuperClock signal received via the input connector) or AES/EBU.
- A metering section for the analogue inputs and outputs with an AD/DA selection button and mode indicator LEDs, and 24 tri-colour LEDs to indicate 30dBFS (green), -3dBFS (orange) and 0dBFS (red). This section also features an “XS” LED that indicates various operation or setup modes
