"The Dolly" microphone by Violet is designed for your all-round needs, and is ideal for capturing vocals, piano, guitars, drums, percussion, strings, wind and other instruments.

"The Dolly" microphone uses a large size dual diaphragm capsule and is designed for a detailed and neutral sound with transparent highs, a smooth mid-range (with minimal presence) and a close to flat low-end response. It has cardioid polar pattern.
"The Dolly" is based on a dual diaphragm large size true electrostatic capsule. The active diaphragm is made from the highest-quality 6-micron Mylar film and sputtered with Violet's special formula of gold mixture, and tensioned on a precisely made brass back-plate. This provides a faster transient impulse response, minimum sound coloration, better low frequency response, and allows the capsule to handle louder sound pressure levels. Each capsule is carefully checked and measured in an anechoic chamber to ensure optimum performance.
"The Dolly" features a unidirectional cardioid polar pattern to effectively reduce ambient studio noise, but with a frontal incidence angle that is optimally wide. The microphones head-grille is made as an acoustic filter of multi-layer brass mesh that reduces plosive sounds, breath, pop and wind noise, minimises internal resonance, and keeps high frequencies and sound transparency unaffected. An additional metal mesh studio pop-filter and polyurethane open cell foam wind-screen are available as options.
The internal solid state pre-amplifier is based on a Class-A fully discrete transformer-less electronics circuit. It is built using the best quality selected components. The circuits are designed to the highest audio standards and provide a linear audio frequency range, high dynamics, low self-noise, and very low audio distortion of all types.
"The Dolly" requires a 48 Volt phantom power supply, which is available from external microphone preamplifiers and mixing console inputs etc. To get the best performance from your Dolly microphone, we recommend using a high-quality mic-preamp with a stable 48V phantom power supply.
Rugged microphone construction and two internal shock-mounts (one for the capsule and one for the electronics), effectively reduce stand rumble, outside infrasonic interference and mechanical shocks. "The Dolly" is ready for use with its supplied stand adapter, but for the best isolation we recommend the optional external elastic suspension studio shock-mount.
To special order, "The Dolly" microphones are available in matched stereo pairs for balanced stereo recording.
