Software DJ Systems
Software DJing is sometimes know as digital DJing or laptop DJing. It utilizes software specifically designed with DJing features in mind. Digital audio files, such as MP3s, can be speeded up or slowed down as requires, synchronised, mixed together, looped and edited. Sound effects can also be applied and mixes can in some software be recorded and edited.
Some DJ software allows for elements of musical performance through the use of sequencing tools and MIDI integration. Other examples might be software and hardware systems that allow users to combine traditional decks for mixing digital audio files. One of the advantages of Software DJing Systems is that you won't need a collection of CDs or vinyl. Students can use their own MP3s to mix with. Some DJing software can also be used for compositional or remixing tasks that might fit into your music technology curriculum.
A typical Software DJ System might include a compatible computer system with DJing software installed and an appropriate soundcard. Speakers and headphones will also be needed. Controllers specifically designed for software DJing are sometimes used to give a Software DJ more hands-on control.
