Vocal Recording
Microphones for recording vocals are usually large diaphragm condenser microphones that offer a suitable pick up pattern, sensitivity and frequency response to capture the voice well. An cage mounting is normally advisable to attenuate noise from stand vibration and a pop shield should be used to prevent unwanted sounds caused by the movement of air from the mouth of the singer.
Live vocal microphones need different specifications to microphones used for vocal recording and as such you should generally not consider using a large diaphragm condenser microphone for vocals in a live sound context, although some microphones suitable for live vocals may also be used for recording purposes.
