Roland AIRA: The TR-8 Rhythm Machine
Roland AIRA: The TR8 Rhythm Machine
It's official. It's here. The new Roland AIRA series was launched this morning and we're incredibly excited to tell you all about the new Roland TR8.
As mentioned in our last article, we had a sneaky suspicion that a TR808 and TR909 would feature somewhere in the AIRA series but we weren't quite sure how. With the TR-8, Roland has exceeded our expectations and merged the two drum machines together to create one bigger, better, beast of a machine.
Stop for a moment and think about all the features that made the TR808 fantastic, the crispy snare sounds, the booms and snaps, the tinny hand-claps and its robotic sounding rim shot. They're all there. Now do the same for the TR909, the thunderous bass kicks, the classic snares and the addictive analog sounds. They're there too. The TR8 rhythm machine successfully captures the elements that made these Roland drum machines great, whilst upgrading with new characteristics we're sure you'll grow to love.
The arrival of the TR-808 and TR-909 both successfully ignited new life into the world of electronic dance and hip hop music and we're suspecting the arrival of the TR-8 could have the same impact. The TR8's selection of percussion, ambient sounds and drum beats make it an attractive option to anyone interested in beats, and whether drum and bass, edm, or ambient electronic music is your forte, your live set could definitely benefit from the TR-8.
Aphex Twin, Orbital, Beastie boys and Dr Dre were just a few of the artists perfecting with the TR-808 back in the 80's and early 90's. Take a listen to the following tracks in which you can hear the classic drum machine in action.
The TR-8 aims to bridge the gap between vintage simplicity and modern technology and a whole generation of artists could benefit from the re-introduction of this seminal drum machine. Modern beat makers such as Gold Panda, Blondes and Modeselektor are all musicians that could benefit from slotting the TR8 into their setup and its addition could power the beat-heavy back-line that makes these groups tick. The TR8 creates the perfect percussion backdrop for performers using beats as their main backbone and if your music is heavily reliant on the beat, then this is the instrument for you.
Whether you're looking for subtle ambient percussion sounds or pounding bass beats, the Bass and Snare modules on the TR8 are now equipped with Attack and Comp knobs allowing you to create them both. Tune and decay knobs are also a new addition for use on every instrument effect, whilst per-step effects and a new 'scatter' function place an incredible set of options at your fingertips.
Fans of the 808 and 909 will be pleased to know that all the classic sounds are Installed in the Roland TR8. The boom and snap of the 808, the thud of the 909, the robotic click of the 808 rim shot and the classic 909 snare. It's all included on the new TR-8. Whether you're looking for subtle ambient…
