Commander, Take It To The Bridge - Larrivée Guitars In Space

Wonderful stuff from the Commander of the International Space Station Chris Hadfield, covering David Bowie's 'Space Oddity'. He released it yesterday, just as he hands over control of the station.

An avid musician and proud Canadian it's no surprise he's happy playing a guitar made in his home country, the Larrivée P-02. While that particular model is discontinued Larrivée are still going strong. Delivering high grade instruments that don't break the bank.

He's also working on an album, the first to be recorded on orbit but certainly not the first to be made using Shure microphones and Cakewalk DAW.

We speculate that Chris might be breaking another couple of records too:

Most intensive flight for a guitar - While the ISS may "only" be around 200-300 miles above the earth it can take hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel to break out the earth's atmosphere. Compare that to 36,000 for a 10 hour flight in a 747.
Most expensive music video - At $150 billion the ISS is the most expensive set for a music video ever. OK, it serves a few other purposes too but it's still a pretty impressive backdrop.
