Artists Believe in Yamaha: Rodrigo Y Gabriela
Artists Believe in Yamaha
Next to the world renowned products, Yamaha claim that their most important assets are their artists, and it’s really not hard to see why. With endorsements from Elton John and Michael Buble to Sheryl Crow, the artists are the people who make the two-dimensional products come alive. Yamaha have achieved the great distinction of managing more artist relationships than their competitors and boast a roster of over 3’500 artists, demonstrating a spectrum of genres with musical flair and quality as superb and immense as the instruments themselves.
Rodrigo Y Gabriela
Rodrigo Y Gabriela are a unique guitar duo who went from playing in a Thrash Metal band to being a world-famous musical fusion duo. The two talented musicians met in Mexico City whilst playing in the band, Tierra Acida (Acidic Soil), but became increasingly frustrated with the limited scope of the domestic music scene. Deciding to move to Europe was possibly the best decision of their careers, as it was in Dublin, Ireland that their unique “rhythmic-fusion” style was welcomed with open arms.
The duo took to busking on the streets on the capital city, and by the turn of the millennium had become regulars on the vast and busy Grafton Street, along with fellow busker Damien Rice. Specialising in fast, rhythmic acoustic guitar playing, the duo gained a reputation performing in the bars and pubs of Dublin, gaining a large fan base from their interesting style. Their big break came in the form of Damien offering them the chance to provide the support for the Irish Musical Festival, Oxegen, and in 2005 the two toured extensively in festivals around the UK and beyond. By this time, they had developed a large repertoire of original material in a variety of styles, and released their debut album, Re-Foc in 2002. “Theirs is a union where mutual understanding goes beyond intuitive and straight into the realms of Zen. Rhythmic Yin to melodic Yang.”
Since coming into their own, Rodrigo and Gabriela have produced 6 albums, one of which, the self-titled album Rodrigo Y Gabriela (2006) went on to sell over 600’000 copies worldwide, reaching No1 in the national charts and beating other musicians like the Arctic Monkeys to the top spot. The two slowly began gaining popularity and recognition in more and more countries, and it didn’t take long for the nation to succumb to the unique charms of the record leading to the two touring for more over two and a half years in support of the release.
Rodrigo Y Gabriela have featured on MTV, Jools Holland, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Glastonbury, T in the Park and even performed for President Obama in May 2010. Other ventures include the duo featuring in the 2011 DreamWorks Film, Puss in Boots, and in 2011 they collaborated with film composer Hanz Zimmer on the score for Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides.

The Rod Y Gab Guitars
Gabriela - Yamaha NCX200R
The NCX2000R is a top-of-the-line, handcrafted, all solid, classical electro-acoustic masterpiece. The instrument was built from the expertise acquired from over 40 years of handcrafting classical Spanish guitars.
This guitar features A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement), an original wood reforming technology developed by Yamaha. It is through precise control of humidity, temperature and atmospheric pressure that the molecular properties of the wood are able to be manipulated, to create a more acoustically ideal condition. This process results in the instruments sound being close to that of a vintage guitar that had been used for years. Instruments that have undergone this treatment have received high praises from a number of musicians, with comments such as “well settled”, “mature” and “clear”.
The NCX line is designed to provide nylon-string guitarists a versatile instrument that can cover a wide array of styles such Classical, Flamenco, Latin, Pop, and much more… which explains why this fusion duo can really make them sing.
