Few guitarists have garnered the undying devotion and admiration lavished upon Kurt Cobain, the late front man of the Seattle Grunge idols Nirvana. His song writing and playing style influenced a generation of musicians and his legacy continues to this day, with new fans discovering the bands back catalogue all the time. Of Cobain’s instruments, few are as iconic as the battered 1965 Fender Jaguar acquired by the artist in 1991 and captured photographically by Charles Peterson during the bands now legendary performance at Reading Festival shortly before the troubled singer’s sad demise.

Now the pioneering guitar manufacturer Fender has unveiled a posthumous tribute to coincide with the imminent 20th anniversary of Nevermind, the bands breakthrough record. The Kurt Cobain Jaguar meticulously recreates the frontman’s favoured axe down to the last detail, even incorporating a road worn finish and treated hardware to lend authenticity. The artist’s new signature model features a bound fretboard with pearloid dot markers and a Stratocaster headstock complete with the anachronistic 1950s-style “spaghetti” logo under the finish. In terms of electrics the custom Jaguar comes furnished with a DiMarzio® humbucking DP103 PAF 36th Anniversary neck pickup and at the bridge a DP100 Super Distortion pickup, The hardware includes triple knurled “chrome-dome” knob configuration (volume-volume-tone), three-position toggle switch, black chrome Adjusto-Matic™ bridge and Gotoh® sealed tuners. While Cobain was a left-handed player, this celebratory guitar will be made in available in both left and right-handed versions.
