Jeff Beck: Fender Stratocaster is the greatest invention
Electric guitar dynamo Jeff Beck said that his six-string Fender Stratocaster is one of two inventions that matter to him.
Beck, now age 64, is currently on tour in Australia and New Zealand and is described as a “master of his chosen instrument” by the Age newspaper.
The former Yardbirds member, who replaced Eric Clapton in the 1960s, said he finds that he discovers new sounds from his guitar all the time.
He said: “There are only two inventions that matter to me - the wheel and the Fender Strat.
“Every day there’s some microscopic difference to what I find in the guitar, some extraordinary coincidence of harmonics that will enable me to hear a scale or weird chord.”
The English rock guitarist released a live album entitled Performing This Week…Live At Ronnie Scott’s in November 2008. The Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott’s concert, featuring Eric Clapton and Joss Stone, aired on BBC4 in October.
