Prince's Trust: Get started With Music
Merseyside youngsters are being invited to take part in a music-based initiative backed by a pop star.
The Prince's Trust's Get Started With Music project is supported by Mercury Music Prize-winning band Elbow's Guy Garvey. It is aimed at changing the lives of young offenders, the unemployed, and vulnerable young people through music.
The project uses creative activities and one-to-one mentoring. It is now being rolled out to include Merseyside, where 10 young people will get the chance to work with industry professionals and mentors. Singer Guy Garvey, a Prince's Trust ambassador, said:
"In our early days, Elbow was lucky to receive support from the Prince's Trust and it's great to see that the charity continues to evolve, giving young people who need help the most the opportunity to be creative, learn new skills and develop a belief in themselves."
The programme is being delivered by Liverpool-based company Musical Youth. The organisation's Andy Pickering said: "This programme uses young people's interest in music to re-engage them and hopefully progress them into training or employment.
"Many young people find themselves in challenging situations and we aim to help them make positive choices in their lives."
The scheme is open to anyone aged between 16 to 25 who can play an instrument, sing or has a strong passion for music but is not in full-time education or employment.
Interviews will be held in early November.
