On Thursday 18th Sept Dolphin Music together with Roland UK presented an evening of music and entertainment at the George Hotel in Huddersfield.

The evening consisted of a first half where local piano teachers Jean Collison, Catherine Walker, Sherry Aldred, Stuart Coldwell, Hazel Kemp and Janet Mellor all presented students to play a short piece of music on the Roland flagship HP207 digital piano.

Although not advertised as a 'competitive' competition, more an opportunity to play live in front of an invited audience made up of friends and family, there was an amazing first prize on offer. Roland’s very own Barry Dallman very generously donated a Roland ep880 digital piano together with 2 runners up prizes.

10 children performed their carefully prepared pieces and then after the interval, Barry demonstrated the HP207 explaining how the instrument is sampled from a range of the best pianos in the world. He also showed how versatile digitals are these days as they’re loaded with clever features and a good selection of percussive sounds including Fender Rhodes, harpsichord, strings and even human voice.

Barry then had the unenviable task of picking the winner. He had previously marked all the performances taking into account 4 different aspects of their playing ability and performances. After congratulating everybody, the winners were announced.
