Keane choose AKG - is it any wonder?

Published: Thu April 26, 2007  News Feed

Following the huge international success of their Under The Iron Sea album in 2006 (with well over two million copies sold to date), piano-driven rock phenomenon Keane have recently moved into their newly acquired studio space in Sussex.

Looking after the technical side of the studio’s set up at this creative time is Keane’s Audio Crew Chief Ant Carr, who recently took delivery of two AKG C414-B XLS, ensuring the recordings the band make now are of the best possible quality.

“A lot of bands feel they capture the best recordings of their songs on their demos”, comments Ant, “and too often, they waste loads of money trying to recapture that spontaneous feel in a big studio because the demo recording isn’t recorded well enough to go on the album. With the new C414s, everything the band records from day one will sound great.”

The C414 is one of AKG’s best-known and most versatile microphones. It’s been popular for recording rock instruments and vocals since the 1960s, but has also done service as a live on-stage vocal mic for many performers, and been a staple in broadcast studios worldwide. The latest updated versions of this classic design, the C414-B XLS and the C414-B XLII, which is optimised for vocal recording, have been on sale since 2004. This year, to mark their 60th anniversary and in recognition of the iconic status of the microphone in the company’s history, AKG are selling a limited-edition version of the C414, of which only 2007 are being made.
