Squier by Fender 3/4 size Mini Stratocaster - Torino Red Reviews
This was my very first electric guitar. As stated below I would look at changing the strings to a heavier gauge as you will find the guitar is less likely to go out of tune.
Overall a great guitar for the younger players out there, Looks and plays great.
I got my son one of these for Christmas. It looks the part, the red paint is well finished and the guitar is nice and light (due to the plywood body). The parts are generally OK, although the tuners are pretty rough.
The guitar comes with 9 gauge strings which for an instrument with such a short scale length are too light. No matter how much I tried fiddling with intonation and tuning it was impossible to get a decent sound when playing open chords. Fretting the notes would pull the strings sharp and sound horrible. This reduced my lad's enthusiasm for playing it.
However if the strings are changed to a heavier gauge (e.g. 10s) things get much better. If you buy this guitar I would suggest that the first thing to do is to change to heavier strings. Then plug it in and have some fun. You might even consider giving your kids a look in.
