Had this card for a few years now. Never had any problems with it. I do a lot of digital sequencing and have found it great for the price. I run it through my Mackie desk and have had few records released with tracks made using it. There really is not much else with the latency and sound quality of this card available for the same price.

Pro\'s:

Great sound quality
Very stable (xp32)
Excellent price

Cons:

Mic/line jumpers
No breakout box

As for the previous comments about the bundled software, I didn\'t buy this card for a stripped down version of Ableton, but I was quite happy to get something for free.
My rating is high (8, not 4) because of the shockingly good value of this product however there are a few niggles which should be mentioned.

1. Earphones are terrible (worse than iPod ones)
2. TRS inputs are too close together for decent cables.
3. My first recording stopped for no reason after 18 minutes (there was 2 hours room left) - hopefully this won\\\'t happen again. I\\\'ve read this is not uncommon and may due to faulty flash card.

That said, it\\\'s better quality than I thought it\\\'d be - sure there\\\'s a little hiss on the provided mic (but very good for bundled tiny T-mic) but wired up to 2 x condensers (it has 2 channels with true 48V phantom power) and set to highest quality settings I am blown away with the quality - I honestly think people that complain of hiss are not setting correct levels/input settings.

Assuming it doesn\\\'t quit on me again (I reformatted card) this is a well built, extremely easy to use, attractive, high quality recorder that is astonishing value.
Extremely easy to use, this MIDI controller is ideal for all levels of music production. I have used this particular MIDI device in college and at home, and have just ordered one from this site as it is well worth the low price tag. It has a better feel than alot of other MIDI keyboards I have used, including a couple of digital pianos, at a fraction of the price. If you want good, sturdy, basic functionality at a good price this is the product for you :)
Having tried various headphones going back to 1985 (sennheiser hd540\'s (ref:gold) and more recently some in-ear etymotic er4i and shure e2c\'s i can safely say that the ie30\'s had me slowly rocking my head with a slight tap to my toes which is not something you do in public. The clarity of sound was astounding, each strike of a simble, the tap of fingers on bongoes, you hear it all.
If you\'re not using these earphones, in all honesty you are missing out on the true sound of music. I love the fact that you can replace the cable if damaged which i couldn\'t do with any of my previous in-ear phones. These will last me forever.

 User: Simon Williams
Rating; 10/10
My initial feeling for this keyboard was cautious, as the first one I received had a dead key after only a day or so of usage. Dolphin Music\'s first class customer service though resolved the problem immediately and arranged for a swap around, so I was soon back with the Axiom Pro 61 and ready to connect it to my iMac running Logic 8 studio.

First impressions unpacking the keyboard were very good. The keyboard feels reassuringly heavy and well made, the controls seem to feel that they should last many years of use. As I pointed out earlier, this was my second model as the first developed a dead key after just a few days of use, but I guess that I was just unlucky! I quickly unpacked the axiom, installed the hypercontrol drivers for Logic and plugged in the USB cable. Turning on the keyboard I was greeted by the backlit blue on white LCD display showing software version number and then a general midi patch with onscreen sliders. The display is very clear and easy to read from a wide angle, unlike some other keyboards I have owned with colour screens. Although there is no contrast control, I have no issues with the screen. I prefer the white text on blue screen though so I quickly changed that setting in main menu. I was immediately pleased at how easy the keyboard was to use, despite having not even opened the manual! Perhaps though the most amazing surprise was when Logic Studio started up and I opened a previous song I had been working on. The display immediately reflected the settings of my track and I was able to change tracks, control the transport (play, stop, rewind etc) and adjust the mixer... without having to set any maps up or delve into menus! Opening up one of Logic\'s plug in synths the display of the Axiom immediately reflected the controls and I was able to tweak filters, resonance and just about everything from the keyboard\'s knobs! Awesome! If you prefer to use the sliders for voice tweaking, a setting on the keyboard enables you to swap around the functions of the sliders and knobs, with one set of controls adjusting synth or effect parameters and the other controls adjusting levels.
Very soon I was feeling at home with the Axiom, able to interact with Logic without having to resort to mouse and computer keyboard. The controls of the axiom felt very responsive, I particularly liked the infinite rotating knobs which means whatever the existing setting is of a parameter, you can touch the knob and adjust it as if the knob was already at that position. The sliders have a similar feature except they have a sort of clutch which prevents parameters from suddenly jumping to the new slider position. Instead when you move a slider, the onscreen display of the axiom shows where the existing value of the parameter that you are adjusting is and it waits for you to move the slider to that position before the parameter changes.
My previous keyboard controller had a synth action and so playing piano parts felt somewhat expressionless. The Axiom Pro 61 has a semi weighted more piano like keyboard, it feels more like a piano but still offers a light enough synth action for quicker parts. It feels much better quality than other controllers I have used and I particularly welcome the aftertouch which enables you to press the keys at the bottom of their travel to provide an additional pressure control to sounds.
The Axiom 61 also features drum pads, these are just great for not only programming percussion parts (they are big enough to use two fingers for flams and conga patterns), but you can use them to trigger just about anything midi! A particularly neat feature of the axiom pro is that you can set them to either velocity or pressure sensitive, and there are a number of different velocity and pressure curves available.
Above the pitch bend and modulation wheels are two large data +/- switches. By default these can be used to shift octave up and down, or by pressing twice you can transpose. Above these is a numeric keypad that is fully programmable, for example using the preset patch 14 you get a set of 12 shortcuts for Logic Pro for saving project, undo, toggling metronome, quantizing and so on... but of course you can change these to whatever you please.

The keyboard has both a sustain pedal and expression pedal input, USB and standard MIDI 5 pin din IN and OUT sockets. You can use it without a computer via MIDI but that requires an additional DC power supply which is not included.

Having now played the Axiom pro 61 for a few weeks, I am very pleased with the quality and flexibility of this controller and would recommend it most highly as an integrated controller for popular Digital Audio Workstations. I only wished they did a 72 note version!
The Axiom Pro 61 is considerably more expensive than most 61 note controller keyboards, but given the time it saves in mapping directly to all your effect and instrument plug in\'s in your DAW, not to mention the high quality semi weighted keys with aftertouch, quality slider and rotary encoders, pressure and velocity pads, you get what you pay for.

I would have liked to have seen a full printed instruction manual included, I\'m not a fan of electronic manuals on CD\'s and ended up having to print and bind my own copy for reference. I also felt that the LCD display could be slightly larger, it\'s not that it is too small (size is 7cm by 3.5cm viewable area) but some of the information can appear a bit cramped and the abbreviations are not always easy to understand. It would also be nice if there was some sort of user programmable sleep mode on the display, as this would avoid me from having to switch off the keyboard to prolong the backlight (though it might be that its LED\'s).
Overall then if you are a Logic, Pro Tools or Cubase user (or indeed any of the DAW\'s that the axiom supports) then you should seriously consider the Axiom Pro 61 if you are shopping for a controller keyboard. The Hypercontrol technology gives you immediate control over plug ins, mixer panel and voices without having to spend hours and hours programming. The transport controls on the keyboard are just great and save you having to take your hands aways from the keys and control your computer by mouse or computer keyboard. 10 Stars!
An amazing pair of speakers they are. Punches way above its weight in terms of price and more surprisingly, its size. Very strong mid-range and an easy overkill for any onboard PC sound codec. Makes the AV40 look expensive (which it is not actually), and should be the speaker system of choice for any PC or MP3 player. Sounds so good on my 5G iPod that I am thinking of using a hifi grade Y-cable to improve the sound. I don\'t find the sound flat. It just finds out any weak audio source very quickly, just like a hifi system 4 times the price. I would recommend not to turn on the bass boost as it already too punchy.

As \"professional\" monitors, it can be better. But consider it as PC speakers, look around comparable \"PC speakers\" at similiar price such as the Harman Kardons, or even the Bose iPod docks, they don\'t even come close.

If using as media player speakers, such as 5G iPod / iPhone, will be worth plumbing for a 20 quid hifi grade Y-cable.

this really should be on every PC shop\'s speaker inventory.
Managed to install this card in windows 7 rc edition and using vista drivers installed in vista sp2 compatibility mode.(remember to install drivers before installing the card).

Upgraded from soundblaster audigy 2 zs, well worth the upgrade much better card and noticed hardly any background noise running my amp at high volumes.

Just installed abelton live, plugged my yamaha cs1x keyboard via the midi in on this card and no latency problems that I could notice.

Most of my equipment cs1x, s2000, novation nova, zoom rfx effects will route through my spirit folio mixing desk and then routed to the input of this sound card ideal high quality recording card.

Great product. After lot of research I choses the profire 2626.
Totaly satisfy. I had a line 6 KB37 which was ok but rubbish to record bass. Pre amp are so much better on the profire, Pro tools compatible ... Can\'t get better for the money. I diddn\'t check if it was in stock( my fault) and took 4 weeks for it to arrive. Good thing was:they always replyed to my e-mails when I was chasing my order. They dispatched it the same day it arrives and It was delivered in the channel island a couple of days after. Worth the wait.
Well starting off, where I have used this; My collage/ school have a new music room with 25 Macs with one of these hooked up to each one, ALOT of moneys worth. I managed to get the oppertunity to try out GarageBand on one of these macs, It instantly unleased a micro-studio into my hands, I used it to record my bass guitar, being it has a brilliant instrument input (along with a mic input), there was no lag what so ever, I beleive it was real time, or only 1ms latency. I also used this to produce a drum beat and other different parts via the keyboard.

I do not know how well it works with Windows, but with a Mac, it was brilliant, Well worth the money.
I bought a pair of Q40 headphones from Dolphin recently with the intention of using them in a small studio - particularly of organ music - with the intention of using them later in the evenings, when using reference monitors isn\'t possible. Having always relied on the M-Audio name for both quality and affordability, I was not disappointed on either count.

My main reason for buying these headphoens was the quoted frequency response, which really does go all the way down to 10Hz - or seems to, anyway. Knowing that I needed to get good, flat response as far down as 16Hz - the bottom end of 32\' rank on a pipe organ - I looked around, and found these headphones which seemed to fit the bill. What I discovered on trying them out was that they most certainly do - the clarity of the lowest pitches of various recordings with which I\'ve tested them is phoenomenal: I believe at times indistiguishable from being in the building where the instrument is housed. In addition to this fantastic low-end response, the treble detail and imperfections which are always present in a pipe organ - pipe chiff, blower noise, key / mechanical action and acoustic imperfections - are all (wonderfully) apparent.

I found the situation no different when I listened to some of my own productions: the Q40\'s do what every artist might wish for by bringing out new details never-before-heard in previous compositions and prompting with them a whole stream of new ideas for modifications and improvements. In only a few days of having them, I\'ve made a whole list of moments of old compositions that I want to revisit and rework. This is no doubt, in part a product of the impressive isolation the Q40\'s afford.

Whilst not entirely capable of giving the isolatory, \"what-world-outside?\" effect one could desire, the headphones were still capable (via my girlfriend) of giving me a hell of a fright. Her raised voice having failed to get my attention in the studio the first afternoon I tried the headphones out, she sneaked up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder. I could well imagine a health warning on a big orange label on the side of the box: \"to prevent palpitations, arythmias and infarctions, always face the entrance-way of the studio whilst using our product\"!

When I opened the package and found the Q40\'s, I was again impressed by M-Audio\'s sleek packaging and design. Like the headphones, the packaging oozes quality, but inevitably didn\'t maintain my attention for long. Having unpacked them and discovered in the box the leather case, detatchable cable and 3.5mm adaptor, I was keen to try them out straight away. For their first session out of the box I wore them for four hours straight and hardly noticed any fatigue or discomfort. The headphones are easily adjustable (and do not slip unlike a previous pair I owned) and are well padded and comfortable. The provision of a detatchable cable is extremely useful in a small studio - rather than having to dig round on the floor for the right output to disconnect, one can leave the cable in place and remove the headphones from it - something which improves further a high-quality listening experience.

The one disappointing feature of these headphones is the leather bag they are supplied with - I would have appreciated (and paid a little extra for) a hard case, which would afford better protection of the headphones, when carrying them around in a backpack or travel bag. However, when I made the choice to buy the Q40\'s, I knew that the majority of their use would be in a single place, so the lack of a hard case did not feature strongly in my decision to buy.

In conclusion, these are a fantastic pair of headphones, of a quality for which I would have expected to pay significantly more. The lack of a genuinely protective case prevents me giving ten stars out of ten, but for those who need quality headphones on a limited budget, the Q40\'s will not disappoint.
There isn\'t much you can really say about a sustain pedal but for the price I paid here at Dolphin Music, you can\'t really get much better than this.

The pedal is well made will a good overall build quality and has a solid weighty feel to it that gives you the immediate impression that it will last for many years. Highly recommended!
Firstly excellent service from Dolphin Music.
As this is my first keyboard since school days!I am larning to use it with my Reason 4 Software.
My only gripe is that I cannot get the GM Module to work at the minute, and there are not enough assignable controls on the keyboard.
Otherwise a very good keyboard,I am very pleased with it,I control a lot of Reason with my mouse so Having less knobs is not a big issue, but would be handy otherwise
I purchased this to replace an E-MU 0404 PCI card for use in a Vista 64 system. The E-mu just wasnt playing ball, drivers not loading at start up lock-ups etc etc.
Not really in need of lots of in\'s and out\'s this seemed to fit the bill and i have to say i love it!
The sound quality to my surprise really out shines the 0404, sounding tighter on the lows and brighter on the highs, my mixes sound superb also latency within Ableton my DAW of choice is great, again better than the 0404.
Drivers installed fine, although do install the drivers FIRST then insert the card. I did it the other way against the include instructions!
Bought this item about 2 months ago now and haven\'t regretted it for one moment. I havent had a single problem with it. Set up was very simple and it was only about 30 mins from opening the box to the desk being fully functional. Faders are very smooth (they are slightly noisy but thats to be expected) and had no experiences of the faders going crazy like i\'ve had on other systems! My only critisicm is that it only has 4 outputs. If they had just added two more then 5.1 would be possible. However this aside it is a great system. Just the fact it is fully functional with cubase and protools is amazing. And the LED display is an absolute godsend when your working with like 40 channels. Takes away the frustration of browsing through banks trying to work out which channel is controlling which! Genious.
I bought this keyboard controller about 2 weeks ago and I\'ve tried with garage band with very good results - to be honest I was able to create a song in less than 5 minutes.
The keystation is simple to use and does everything it is suppose to do. You just need to pick any music software like Abbleton, sonar or Reason plus your creativity to keep you playing for hours.
OR if you\'ve got, like me, an Apple Mac with garage band installed is plug and play all the way.
I tried this card out to replace my Marian Marc 2 card, due to the fact that the M-audio card supports XP and Vista, whereas my current Marian card only supports XP.

Is use the sound card in a Media PC which is linked to pretty good HiFi; I use the SPDIF only (for interested people http://www.youtube.com/user/idiocratease?gl=GB&hl=en-GB)

The card installed smoothly as did the software. The interface is simple and clean.

Whilst I\'m sure this is a good card in the general sense, the quality of the SPDIF was not on the same level as the Marian Marc 2 Card. This is a very subtle thing I suspect relating to clock accuacy, leading to slighy more jitter in the M-Audio card, but I lost some of the glitter and dynamic range with this card.

So I returned this card. But as I say, I\'m sure it\'s a pretty good card.
I recently built a small studio at home; which meant my audio computer needed unplugging from my sound system as I need it where it was to listen to music. It was also a good opportunity to use monitors instead, so did my research and bought the M-Audio Studiophile AV 30.

I\'m glad I did. The response is fairly flat and uncoloured. The internal amp does its job nicely without introducing any noticeable induced noise. They are surprisingly loud. There\'s some distortion on the bass but only at insane volume levels.

This ain\'t no pro monitors, but certainly useful and excellent vfm.

The cable supplied to feed the secondary monitor is very good quality. It\'s also got a headphone-out minijack connection, very handy when it\'s late at night, saves me from unjacking from the computer.

As for other uses other than mixing & mastering, I often take breaks by watching series or playing something on my PSP (the main unit has got a minijack line-in I can hook it up to, cable included, good quality) and the speakers are well suited for that, overkill if anything.

Only real drawback I see is that you do need to be extra careful on the monitors (and your head) placement to get the best of them. You know how to position them, but make sure the tweeters are at your ear\'s height.
You get 4 mic preamps, 2 instrumentinput, very low latency. And very good sound. This is great value.
Read reviews on Sound on sound, Musicradar ect. They all say the same: That this is a very good interface for this price.

Absolutely fantastic MIDI controller keyboard; it is everything I needed and more!

This keyboard has many controls which are very easily assigned to applications (I use Logic, Live, and Reason). Also, the fact the it doesn\'t require drivers is a definite plus! And latency is unnoticeable.

The keys are nice and responsive. However, the keys are not very dynamic as mentioned in another review.

Also, the sliders and knobs are smooth. The facts that the eight knobs are continuous is also very useful and a welcome addition. Although, the sliders do seem to come off once of twice since I\'ve had it, but as long as you are gentle with them you should be fine!

I\'d definitely recommend this controller as it is generally well built and is filled with features - all of which is at a great price!
I bought this card with some trepidation, as I\'ve had nightmares in the past with PC based recording.

But it was an absolute joy - no issues with latency, stable as a rock, nice software interface.I have a digital tv card already installed, and that integrated seamlessly.

I\'m running XP on an old banger PC, using Cubase SX and Reason.

Installation went very smoothly, the only headscratching you may encounter is deciding where to set the jumpers for the operating levels for inputs 1&2 (the XLR ones). Since I run my mics and instruments through a Focusrite Platinum Trakmaster i\'ve set the jumpers to maximum Line Level of +14dBu.

I only have one regret about this card - I wish I\'d bought years earlier.

I love it !!!!

 User: Bored 1
Rating; 6/10
Interesting product which blurs the line between computer and mixer. There are USB products which does about the same as this, but I prefer Firewire for audio, since USB steals some CPU and latency is typically a little higher. With Firewire there are some Onyx mixers from Mackie and the N-series (N8 especially) from Yamaha that this competes against, but both are more expensive than this. The Yamaha is however a true digital mixer, and they both have more extensive EQ. You pay... The NRV10 has the smallest footprint, which could play an important role in a home studio.

Its a standard analog mixer (doesnt need computer to operate), but with a computer connected it acts as both an 8 input soundcard and an 8 channel mixer to adjust the listening on individual tracks while working in your DAW. No repatching needed! I like fast, hands-on mixing like that, but to be clear: this is NOT a control surface, i.e. theres no automation; the mixer is entirely analog.
With the supplied software you can use your computer as an effects device. Basic Noise gate and Compressor plus any two VSTs of your choice per track (a few are supplied even, to get you started). This is really nice! The application that holds these effects doesnt seem to tax the CPU any extra at all (worth of talking about), compared to doing it via your DAW (which would be more fiddly as well). But mono tracks will have VST output only in mono - no fancy routing here.

Read the product description for all it can do EUR its good and detailed.

As an analog mixer the NRV10 is quiet and unassuming. It replaced a Behringer mixer, and it was like lifting a veil off the sound. Behringer OUT of my house! It has a built in effects processor which can provide reverb in headpones when singing etc.. I use it for rough mixing-sketches as well, and live. However the FX unit is noisy; setting the Return level above 0 dB will add hiss to the mix. On a DJ-set in a noisy club it probably wont matter, but I feel this part is underspecced nevertheless.

One reason why I bought this is because I needed more inputs, and this unit has five good M-Audio mic preamps (+ 3 Line), so its quite a good deal even as just a soundcard. Unlike the bulk (all?) of their soundcards, the XLR inputs doesnt accommodate instrument level, so I had to get a DI-box extra to use my guitar. Hmm... (Actually a guitar is pictured as input source on the casing).

Marketing says this is a 10:10 mixer, but there is no way you can get ten independent sources into your computer with this. Theres eight real inputs, and the last two is the total stereo mix. I found out before I purchased. You can return eight tracks independently, and then there are two different stereo mix returns, which is quite powerful, and these are the only physical outputs. I dont know what youd call this in the real world (not marketing) - a 8:8:2/2 mixer or something? (8 inputs, 8 returns, 2 independent stereo outputs.) Note that this mixers more expensive competitor from Mackie only has one stereo return/output.
Having used fully analog studio equipment earlier, I find doing all this through ONE FireWire cable amazing and a godsend of new tidyness.

M-Audio suggest to use this mixer live as well. It isnt flimsy, but it isnt built like a tank either (again you get what you pay for), so Id certainly put it in a protective rack / frame for more than the ocacional gig. I wouldnt mind longer faders, but then the footprint in the studio would be bigger. The buttons produce a snap when switching from Mic to Line, and worse: its hard to see at a glance if they are up or down! This (is it input or return?) could be very stressing in a live setting. A real design blemish I call it.

My criticisms are actually minor things. Especially at Dolphins good price, this is a very attractive product. The NRV-10 mixer/soundcard has taken the overall sound quality in my home studio up to a new level.

I\'ve had one of these cards in my music computer for several years now and bought this to upgrade the sound in a new computer. This card has been around for a good few years now but its longevity is a big plus point for me. It may not have the bells and whistles of newer cards, but if you simply want to record and play good quality sound then you can\'t really go wrong here!

The only negative point is that the manual hasn\'t been updated since I got my first card - it still refers to Windows 95, 98 and NT! XP doesn\'t get a look-in! However, the driver has been refined over the years and seems to work with all current OS, even Vista 64-bit I believe, although I can\'t vouch for that.

All in all, a great quality card.
I used one of these for a few years and didn\'t have a single problem with it. Excellent sound quality, almost zero latency - perfect for someone starting out who doesn\'t want to break the bank or even someone more professional looking for a simple, easy to use audio card. Make sure you couple this with a decent preamp / mixer, as your recordings will only sound as good as the weakest link.
Excellent midi keyboard. I purchased it as I needed something to control my soft-synths, and was taken in by all the various sliders, knobs and switches. The keys are responsive without being too heavy, making it great for amateur musicians. The only downsides are that the programming can be a bit complicated at times and the touch-pads can be slightly twitchy. Overall, very much worth the money.
Easy to install, cool throbbing power led and clear transmit/receive lights under the casing. Interface seems to work well, though I\'m only using it to hook up a vdrum TD-3 so I\'m not abusing the MIDI capability of it. Casing is slightly on the flimsy, there are probably more compact tougher designs that could be used.
I bought this both as a stage piano to play late at night when it would annoy the neighbours too much playing my baby grand. And secondly I wanted a weighted 88 key keyboard to use as a controller keyboard for my various synthesizers. Taking each of these requirements in turn:

As a piano, I was very impressed with the ProKeys 88. It feels good to play and the main on board sounds are very good. It was nice to have other sounds like strings and basses but I probably won\'t use them much. The main problem I had with playing it was that the edges of the keys are quite sharp and so a long stretch can be a little uncomfortable. Whilst I won\'t be selling my baby grand, it does provide a good piano feel and at a very reasonable price.

As a controller keyboard, it does everything I wanted from it. However, that is not saying much as I don\'t use a computer for music and so all I was using it for was controlling hardware synths using MIDI. My only complaint is that changing sounds requires you to press a \'change sound\' button and then type in the number of the patch. That can get a bit tedious if you are auditioning a lot of sounds. But other than that minor gripe, MIDI control worked straight away on all my synths.

In summary, this is a really good stage piano and MIDI controller in one. For the price it is being sold at, it is a really good buy.

 User: Mark Jesson
After a lot of research (it\'s a big purchase) I bought the Project Mix I/O for my home studio. It is a combined Firewire audio interface and control surface. The package I bought bundled Pro Tools M-Audio 7.4 (which, after registering on M-Audio\'s website qualified for a free Pro Tools 8 upgrade).

Install
In the box were disks containing hardware drivers, PT 7.4 with reg card, bundled plug-ins, a copy of Live Lite, a PSU (with every possible plug adaptor), a pre-auth\'d iLok device, a 6-pin / 6-pin f/w cable, a 6-pin / 4-pin f/w cable and two manuals.
I run Vista (SP1) on a 2.2GHz Intel Dual Core laptop with 3Gb of RAM. Note a Vista install is not as smooth as I had hoped but support offered by M-Audio is great. First, nip over to M-Audio\'s site and download and install the latest appropriate drivers. Vista 32 bit SP1 is supported. Shut-down the computer, plug in the firewire cable turn on the Project Mix and boot up your OS. Once boot-up is complete there is an extra step to complete installation in Vista. Instructions for this are only on M-Audio\'s site and caused some initial head-scratching. There is a squeaky bum moment whilst the firmware updates! Once I had the surface installed I checked the audio interface was working by sending some music to it from media player to my monitor speakers via balanced TRS jacks. I then installed PT 7.4 (but I guess you could register before installing PT 7.4 and go straight to PT8). I had some issues with PT after install which I thought was due to a duff iLok. A quick search on Digidesign\'s website prompted me to uninstall IEv8 which cured the issue. I then registered (once happy all was working) and created an iLok account. I then received an e-mail containing PT8 download instructions. Note you need an iLok account to do this as a new key is deposited to you. Download (>3Gb) took an hour with my connection but I can see it being a problem for some users. PT8 install was smooth and it has a much improved interface over PT7.4. Once installed, turn off your computer, plug in and turn on the Project Mix, boot-up your computer, launch PT 8, set-up your hardware and you are ready to make some music!

First Impressions
Ins and outs are as specified on the product page. You can configure in the control panel and it is self explanatory. There is an A/B switch EUR great for switching between sets of monitors when mixing. There is 6.35mm input on the front of the unit EUR very handy for guitarists and two independent headphone outputs. You can use the desk as an audio interface in Vista which is good for listening to tunes whilst not working. Sound quality is great with no hisses or pops although I havent pushed it hard yet.

The Project Mix has many modes covering all of the bases. M-Audio seems committed to service and the firmware is updateable. Modes are selected by holding down an Aux key when powering on. Mine defaulted to Cubase mode on power-up but this is easily changed. M-Audio recommend only changing modes when all elements of you set-up are powered off including your computer.
In PT mode track names are displayed above each channel, and the workflow is intuitive, a mini-studio in your house / at the gig. Motorized faders rock! You will use the surface instead of you mouse whilst recording which speeds everthing up.

I have my musical equipment wired into the inputs. (elec. guitar, bass, keys, floor pod, synth and keys). Instead of un-plugging equipment you can just move the channel strip along so that the track matches the input which is handy!

Verdict
The LCD screen makes recording simple and the faders come into their own when mixing. Impress your friend with automation when paying back your session! Comparable products are more and dont come with PT! Recommended purchase if you want a solid control surface and a high-spec digital audio interface. Make sure you have the room for it though!
Firstly I would like to say don\'t rely on the delivery times stated by dolphin. During check out I was told that it would be 1-4 days for delivery.....it turned out to be about 12 days because they didnt have the item in stock....a little heads up would have been nice. When the item was delivered it came without the power supply (hard to obtain) and no sustain pedal...both of which are said to be included in the manual. I contacted dolphin straight away and they said they would get onto M-Audio about getting these parts sent out. It has been about 2 weeks since delivery and I still dont have them.

Ok...rant over. The Prokeys 88sx is a great piano. I am not a great pianist by any stretch of the imagination but the keys feel good and the built in sounds are convincing. I use this as a midi keyboard into Logic and it works great...no problems so far. I suggest if you can find it for a good price elsewhere maybe go for that option! I wont be buying from dolphin again.
Iv used this product for a couple of years now for home recording. and there\'s not allot i can say apart from, brilliant. its a great amateur device that allows allot of flexibility. on the negative side it only has 2 input sockets at the front which makes it ok for a while but if u need more than 2 it becomes frustrating. so overall get it if your just going to record some vocals and a guitar, but if u need more that two inputs get some thing bigger.
Beautiful keyboard, quite nice to play (not advised if looking for life like keys) but otherwise the keys feel loverly! pretty light also. The sounds it has are in my opinion amazing! brilliant used Live or for Amateur Studio use. I say buy it, its budget price and does everything you want!
Out of all of the DJ kit I own, The M-Audio Torq system with the Connectiv USB device / vinyls is in the top list.

What can I say apart from the fact that it is not only worth the money by far, but it is also a totally awesome mixing experience and I still can\'t believe how effective it is!

When friends come over the first thing they want to do is have a mix on my Technics, and now my decks are connected to my laptop via the Connectiv system, they can bring their tunes with them on their MP3 player - but we still have the full-on vinyl mixing experience.

I have recently discovered the live remix features and the fact that you can use VSTs on the outputs - mind blowing mixes are all I can do now, although you don\'t need to use these features to create awesome mixes.

My conclusion:
> Whether you prefer to mix with a mouse, CDs or like me with Vinyls this is one of the best things you can possibly spend your money on; seriously.

Pros:
> Literally mix any audio file but in the way you would mix vinyl (or CD if you are into that).
> Cheaper than other systems on the market but they give the same high-performance.
> This can actually improve your natural mixing capabilities no-end. And I don\'t mean by using the convenient BPM counters either.
> As long as your PC/Laptop is reasonably modern it will work - whether on a mini-webbook like I use in a club or a 50 inch HDMI monitor on your desktop PC at the studio - it will work without fail (unlike other more expensive mp3 mixing systems that I have tried).
> Totally genuine mixing feel. No delays as you might suspect from a cheaper unit - regardless of your latency.
> The automatic intuitive dynamic playlists are a useful feature.
> You can even mix a real vinyl on one deck and an MP3 on the other or any combination.

Cons:
> If you wish to record the mix that you are doing, the best solution is to run the audio out of the computer running the sofware, either into a mini-disc recorder, other PC etc. It doesn\'t seem to like recording the mix itself on the same system (I might be wrong but it isn\'t really an issue anyway).
> Clutching at straws here; Mine was not dispatched with the Vista drivers. Not really a issue in the end though as you can easily download any driver from their web site for free, within minutes.

Would I recommend it?
> Blimey yes! 3 of my friends have gone straight out and bought this item. Not only that, one of my friends who was using the Serato system has now bought this one too.

Finally, the gold vinyls available on this particular deal are just outstanding - go beyond just the simple envy of your mates!

Happy mixing!

I purchased this item specifically to work in a virtual pipe organ (Hauptwerk software) with Windows Vista Ultimate x64 in an Intel Quad Core PC.

A. GENERAL

The product is fundamentally sound but I have the following comments, which I think M-Audio would do well to read:

A1. The Driver
The 64 bit driver seems to have been slow in development and is still only in Beta. Furthermore it does not match the manual description.
For example: where is the PatchBay? and how is the so-called \"Bass Management\" facility accessed? I couldn\'t find it.
For a so-called professional product we need fully released and documented 64-bit drivers on the CD.

A2. The Cables
I would have liked to have seen M-Audio supply some cables for use with the break-out connectors. Considering that neither this card, nor their Studio BX5 Monitors come with connecting cables (and the use of RCA-phono flying leads at the card end and XLR at the speaker end without supplied cables is a little unfriendly).

B. SUPPORTING SOFTWARE

B1. M-Audio Pro-Tools
The supporting software was disappointing. Firtly, M-Audio Pro-Tools should be renamed Am-Tools - simply because it does not recognise a 64-bit installation of the card. This renders it quite useless for those if who are in 2008 rather than 1998.

B2. Ableton Live
Secondly, the versions of Ableton Live-Lite 6 and Live-Lite 7 (including M-Audio enhanced) that are available with the product do not incorporate a music score editor. This is a major omission for serious musicians.

So all-in-all a potentially good hardware product sploied by lack of up-to-date software support.

This mini usb keyboard is great value for money and easily one of the most portable on the market. Although the keys are smaller than standard it is still easy to play and is a fantastic tool for programming midi keys and drum parts etc. The main drawback I\'ve found is the lack of a pitch wheel and octave selector. There is room on the left side of the keys for this but M-Audio have chosen to leave them out. The pitch wheel I can live without but not being able to shift the octave means having to mess about with the drum mapping to play various midi drum units such as BFD or EZdrummer. The size is great for part of a mobile recording setup, I take mine to Thailand with me and it goes in my main bag no problem. A little bit more thought about potential users wouldnt have gone amiss though.
Do you need a no-frills audio interface? Are you fed up of the latency with you\'re built in soundcard? This no-frills card is perfect for the musician on a budget.
The RCA sockets protrude quite far from the back of this card so I had to remove my motherboard to fit it through the slot on my case.
Other than that minor annoyance this is a good card with stable drivers (under XP) and great performance.
The order arrived the day after I placed it and I had it up and running within 30 minutes.
Really good service and a cracking price from Dolphin.
I\'m using two of these to control Eventide\'s digital stompboxes. The other recommended controller was the Ernie Ball 6181 with 25k pot for use with active electronics - which cost four times as much. So i\'ll compare the two. Ernie Balls are built to last forever, and if one of these M-Audio pedals happened to break at a gig i\'d regret my choice. But longevity aside, what\'s suprised me is that I actually prefer the M-Audio as a pedal for most things. They\'re much, much lighter in my pedalboard. They\'ve a smaller footprint: fractionally wider than an Ernie Ball Jnr and about 4cm shorter. I only get 3/4 of my size 12 feet on them but it doesn\'t matter. The big difference in feel is resistance: these don\'t provide any. There is a knob on the axis to vary this and at full-on position the pedal is easier to control but there\'s isn\'t any actual resistance against your foot movement. I prefer this for changing delay and filter settings, but for volume swells I like the resistance my Ernie Ball provides. For the money, and for the moment, these M-Audio\'s get full marks.
As far as functionality against price is concerned, you cant go far wrong with this piece of kit, being USB 2 with lots of ins and outs.

M-Audio have improved driver installation. No more restarting, plugging in at the right time etc.

HOWEVER, drivers aren\'t perfect. In certain situations, depending on your setup, the drivers can change your system\'s USB power settings (i had this on windows XP prof SP2). This results in the unit just disconnecting during use.

I\'ve managed to fix this by tampering with the settings in the device manager - more info is on their forums.

There is also a hardware issue that results in the unit cutting out. Apparently this affects only 1% of units shipped.

Now that (fingers crossed), my unit is fully functional, it seems to be working fine. If, however, i was gigging regularly and needed to rely on a soucdard day in, day out, i would not buy this one.

For home studio use, this product is excellent (provided you can get it to work).

Hope this helps :)
This is an excellent piece of music equipment every studio should own, a midi controller. It is very easy to set-up and use. The only problem was the operation manual is on the CD provided, I prefer it in my hands, make sure you read the operation manual as the quick star guide doesn\'t tell you anything bout the product itself. Only had it for a few weeks so can\'t give a full review, but so far it\'s a great piece of kit. Easy to set up and get recognised by your machine, music software etc...

Only used the supplied Enigma software to set the pad sensitivity to full, then got rid of it - useless program. Program the controller using the manual/online resources to your own specifications and you\'ll be away in no time!

Plugged it into Windows Vista (32-bit) and it began working immediately, which was a pleasant surprise.

While the keyboard action is hardly realistic to the touch, it\'s perfectly acceptable for the price, and comes across as generally well manufactured. Same goes for the pitch/modulation wheels.

Great budget MIDI controller, buy now if you don\'t need any bells and whistles!
M-Audio do not provide drivers for their PCI cards for Intel Macs - but they do not make this clear on their site or on this site.

This is a huge disappointment and I am going to attempt to return my card.
I purchased the Transit to alow me to record and play back hi-fi audio between my stereo system and my laptop. The interface I needed was SP/DIF optical or coax on the stereo side and USB on the PC side. That is exactly what the transit does. I have no need for a/d or d/a conversion because the SP/DIF feeds a Meridian 562, which has a pretty good ADC (at 44.1k 16bit) for analogue sources (tape, vinyl, FM radio) and the speakers take a digital feed as well (up to 96k 24bit)
Input for recording works fine out of the box, though installing the drivers was a bit hit-and-miss. at about the 4th attempt it all worked.

The M-audio site claims it is possible to use their USB products with a USB hub, though they don\'t really recommend it. When I tried, it would not work at all. The pc failed to recognise the transit was there and the support people just said \"don\'t use a hub\".

I have not been able to get output to work, except very rarely and intermittently, despite trying all the latency and bit rate options.

I\'m now back using a Creative Audigy2 pc card, which works first time every time, regardless of bit-rate, latency settings etc. Unfortunately this is not the answer for me because I want to get a sub-notebook (e.g. Acer Aspire 1) to front-end my stereo and they dont have a PC card slot. When I get more time I will see if I can get further help from M-audio support, who are very prompt on answering queries.

To summarise. This is an amazing piece of kit for the size if you want to record. I guess most m-audio customers are most interested in the recording side. However I\'m sceptical about the USB interface.
I love the keyrig keyboard. I was only learning keyboard and thought that the keyrig would be perfect because its cheap and usb powered and a midi controller. If been using it for around 5 months now and its still amazing. its very light and portable. Im using it with reason 4.0 rewired into ableton [which come with it]. Its only downside is the lack of controls [only a mod wheel, pitch wheel and volume slider] but for that price you cant be to pick. Highly recommended

After struggling with M-Audio FireWire 1814 for 4 years, being a slave under it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s moody behaviour, I one day lost my temper and cut it in twos with an axe. After this I found that the internal sound card in my computer was even performing better, especially when it comes to reability. Now (without the 1814 in my life anymore) I also found that I can use my firewire 800 Western Digital disks without any problems under OSX. My life is much better now.
I purchased an M-Audio Oxygen 8v2 here in Baltimore and have had nothing but
problems. The Ableton really sucks and I wonder why they are pushing Ableton.
The tech person at M-Audio told me to try Music Creator by Cakewalk with my
system and maybe it would help. I purchased Music Creator and was able to get the sound to come out (previously no sound would come out with Ableton), but when I would exit the program and come back to Cakewalk, there would be no sound from a saved file previously recorded. I have changed settings and even upgraded my computer. The store would not take the product back, and I have decided to make life easier on myself by buying no more M-Audio products. It is difficult to get into their tech support as they keep you holding on the line. The experience was confusing and frustratng. I wondered if my package had been tampered with because the box said Ableton Live Lite 4 on the box while inside was Live Lite 6. I also wondered if my drivers needed upgrading. When I went to their website the upgrading page said \"Access Denied.\" I think if people started boycotting computer products and companies that give us nightmares, the companies would be more willing to make products and software that synchronize (too much expansion too soon due to greed and mismanagement) and work more efficiently for people. They make these products quickly for money\'s sake and don\'t care whether you have problems, and it has worsened over the years. I will not buy any more M-Audio products. This was not a plug and play product, right out of the box product for me. Right now I\'m stuck with a product I can\'t use that could have been thought out a lot longer before its release. I will buy another product from a different company which will make my life easier.

 User:
I am a drummer in several loud heavy metal bands and one loud progressive rock band. Therefore protecting my hearing is very important. I used to play gigs with my normal Sony in-ear headphones that I use to listen to my MP3 player and are clearly not designed for live performance. Needless to say my hearing has suffered as a result.

This is where the M-Audio IE-10s come in. They are brilliant because they\\\'re inconspicuous (long hair helps), the sound clarity is immense so you don\\\'t need to turn it up beyond half volume in most cases, they block 26dB of sound and they don\\\'t damage the wallet too much at 60-80 (could be worse). The IE-10s also have a nice little added feature which is the way you can bend the cable around your ear, reducing the chances of the headphone falling out mid-gig (which really hurts, let me tell you!). You also have the benefit of being able to change the ear tips from large to small and they even have some foam ones and a double-flange silicon ear tip. The IE-10s also come with a wax removal tool meaning I no longer have to resort to the sharp end of a pair of compasses to clean my headphones.

Alas there are a couple of minor but annoying flaws. They can be a bit difficult to put them in your ears properly and the silicon ear tips only come in two sizes, large or small but don\\\'t let that put you off.

So to sum up: If you\\\'re playing any loud gigs in the near future and you want to save your hearing but at the same time hear what\\\'s going on the get some of these!

*For simplicity I DI the electric guitars into my audio interface and plug my headphones into that meaning I can adjust my own sound.
The keyboard is reasonably well made, although the knobs may break with repeated knocks. It fits easily into my laptop bag and allows me to practice or compose while traveling. The lack of a real pitchbend or mod wheel takes away some degrees of control, but since it\'s obviously not designed for live use, parameters like modulation can be input into recording software after recording using one of the cc knobs. The software installs easily and is good for quick mock-ups of sounds, without using the loading time and CPU resources of something big like Native Instruments software.
The M-Audio Mobile Pre is an unbeatable little mini pre-amp mixer with a standard USB interface. Best of all, because it\'s fully standards compliant, even though it only mentions Windows and Mac OS on the box/manuals, it nevertheless works out of the box with zero configuration my Linux (Ubuntu 8.04) based laptop. I was looking for something that\'s platform independent and standards compliant for sound recording/mixing on various computer platforms, and this little box is it. Sound quality seems excellent so far. Well worth the money I think.
I bought the Axiom about a week ago and have been very busy with it.

This makes for an excellent Midi controller. It's easy enough to assign all the sliders, etc, to controls in SONAR. The transport buttons take a bit more effort and I had to google around a bit, but no problem in the end. I get no synchronisation issues, the controller reacts fast.

Beware of the following if you are clasically piano trained (like me), or intend to play piano pieces on this: none of the 10 velocity curves will give you ideal results for a reasonably dynamic piece. It's hard to play quietly - and if you select a curve that lets you play quietly, then it's almost impossible to play loud parts without bashing the keys out.

Bearing in mind that it's a midi controller, though, not a piano, I'd buy it again any day!
Overall a very good product, mainly because it's features and quality are almost unbeatable for the price. Phantom power(if needed), two XLR and line inputs, direct headphone monitoring and a very simple USB installation all for under 85!

The sound quality is excellent for the price and so long as the gain levels are not to high on any one of the components (software, interface or PC) then noise levels are virtually zero. I have not experienced any interference whatsoever from the USB connection as I know others have with other similar products.

The only reason I give it a 9 is because of some issues I had first getting used to it. The manual doesn't clearly explain about the inputs and for a realtively unexperienced user like myself, this caused some frustration. However, after ringing their support line (which is excellent)all of my problems were solved and it turned out it was all my fault. For the benefit of others, all of the inputs (other than the 3.5mm stereo mic) are mono. Plugging a stereo source with a stero cable into the mono socket causes a horrible flanged effect on the sound. Instead use a mono socket/adaptor or mono source.

The supplied Ableton software works very well and is easy to use. The included effects are also very good.
And when they say zero-latency direct monitoring that is exactly what you get. Through hardware circuitry you recieve the signal from all of the inputs you are using via headphones almost instantaneously with no detectable delay.
The control panel on the computer which installs with the drivers is very easy to use and takes affect instantly so you can play around with it whilst listening for optimum levels.

The box itself is very sturdy, doens't look like it would break easily and all of the buttons etc. are good.

I apologise for the long winded review but it's the sort of review I was looking for before I bought it so I hope others will find it helpful.

this piece of hardware is THE TITS!

after playing with so many reasonably priced consoles i decided to actually buy this one to upgrade from my BCD2000 and i haven't looked back! this is a great controller for any DJ/Producer who likes to get creative with their mixes and play their own tunes as soon as they've been mastered.

the only downfalls are the size and the cueing. m-audio obviously haven't tried to make this too compact and the monitoring system takes a little getting used to... though the pulsating lights in the buttons make up for all of this in my opinion ;)

I travel a lot and try to keep working on my laptop when I am in hotels. I have found the IE 30 in ear headphones to be fantastic.

They are tiny and light, they cut ambient noise by 26dB (M Audio's claim) and the sound is very good. I was stunned to be using mt iPod on plane at half volume.

The only negative is that you really do need an extension cable if you are going to do anything where you are at all mobile, monitoring guitar via Amplitube 2 from the laptop for example.

Apart from that I have nothing but praise for this product and the hard case is really useful if you are going to throw them in a travelling bag.
Well, obviously you only buy this product to use to trigger synths etc, so really I can only review this on 2 levels - does it work, and is the extra 60 spent on getting the semi-weighted version worth it?

Well, it definitely works, and having used the unweighted version I would say to anyone who wants to use it as a keyboard and not just as a trigger to save your pennies and get this one. The weighting of the keyboard is quite simply excellent, and I'm so glad I took the risk - the overall feel is a mile away from the plasticy unweighted version - it really allows you to communicate with the lines you are playing so much better, which makes it a lot more fun.

It's arguably a lot of money for such a "simple" device, but combined with Reason or the likes, is the equivalent of many 1000s worth of keyboards - so 60 extra on the interface you use when it's this good is an easy decision to make in my eyes.
I bought these along with an EMU 1212 PCI sound card and some Lynx Balanced TRS cables, and boy, was it a good purchase!!

The sound quality is fantastic, even compared to my high end Hi-Fi/home cinema speaker system costing 10 times the amount.

Good crisp treble, punchy mid and a good amount of bass for a small (5") driver. Very loud with no trace of distortion as I have not yet managed to push them hard enough without my head hurting!

An excellent choice for low budget home studio owners, or people looking to get into the recording/mastering business, like myself. My only gripe, hence the 9 out of 10, is that the speakers do warm up a lot due to the internal amps and no heatsinks on the rear, but this is not a major factor as it doesnEURt detract from the usability of the speakers.

Also, a centre notch on the volume control would be nice, but the scale is accurate enough to balance the volumes with.

A fantastic product, that punches well above its pricetag.

I've been using one of these units since 2002 and could not be more pleased with it.

Just plug the guitar in directly and a mic. Install protools m-powered and you are away. No messing around.....just recording. I've used it with guitar rig, amplitube, cubase...and it is great. The drivers for XP are perfect. The AISO drivers are very low latency (4ms on my average pc).

There are now vista drivers but nobody with half a brain would try to use vista to make music! The opperating system is a complete joke in the music industry. Stick with XP!
I decided to buy this product on the strength of the reviews and compatibility with my set up.

I had some initial problems after installing the card. First off it was causing IRQ conflicts and every now and then made my PC crash and give me the blue screen. Digging deep into the hardware settings showed no conflicts - contradicting what the blue screen told me.

I spent hours trying to find out why this was happening and it seemed lots of people had the same problem but no resolution. I decided to uninstall the card and try a different PCI slot. This stopped the blue screen but caused a conflict that stopped some USB ports working...

I then thought that maybe the driver bundled with the card wasn't up to date and compatible with my set-up. I found a more recent driver on the M-Audio site (the driver with the card is from October '04). The one I downloaded is from 2007. I also updated my BIOS and chipset drivers to make sure I was at optimum performance and now, a week later I have had no problems - touch wood.

I have just started using this sound card with my Oxygen 8 v2 controller. There is no latency what-so-ever. If there is, it is not noticeable from a natural hearing stance. It is so much more impressive than my previous sound card which caused a delay of about 0.5-1 second. Impossible to work with if you are playing along with something!

So the card drops a point for not being instantly 'workable' from the box.
I have owned one of these and it was so frustrating. Extremely problematic especially under Mac OS X due to a lack of decent driver support. Even when drivers were released, the unit was patchy to say the least.

You'll be tearing your hair out wondering why it's suddenly all gone quiet or why a certain pair of channels are not routing to the output when they were a second ago! You'll be forever "kick starting" it into life by toggling some random switch in the driver control panel.

If you are looking for a multi channel firewire interface for your computer then don't be tempted by the price. Spend a little more for one of the Focusrite 19" units instead which are much much better both in terms of reliability and sound quality.
Iwas VERY excited to purchase M-audio, but to my dismay, ONLY the usb driver of the whole bundle that came with M-Audio,installed, WHY?
Becuase I am running 64 bit Windows xp!
None of the other software like blackbox and Fast Track Pro would install!!!!!
Any idea where I can obtain the the 64 bit for the whole bundle?
I REALLY REALLY want to get going with this gadget!
However, I am impressed with the pre-amp feature!
Please advise, and/or direct me where I can download the 64 bit version!
Not from the suplied cd, nor the Internet downloaded version currently available to my knowledge would install.

Regards

Johann M. C. Faurie

(I am a bit annoyed that the salesperson did not know to ask me what operating system, or thought it is compatible with later technology!)
Firstly I'd like to thank Dolphin Music for the excellent delivary time! arrived the day after I purchased the product, which was much better than the other company whome I chose who forgot to tell me that the product was out of stock and made me wait a week!

The product itself is pretty robust, and installing it was very simple. The only complaint i would have is the lack of a manual, there is a pdf one, but I prefer thumbing through something physical instead of reading off a computer, but that is just a personal preference.

The rewire software was completly daunting to look at, I will need to go through the tutorials to work out how to use it.

Other than that, it's great!!
No bells or whistles, extremely basic MIDI controller which is exactly what I was after.

I already own a M-Audio prokeys 88 and an Oxygen 8 aswell, so this was the next natural addition to my set up.

Faultless reliability, 5 minutes to install, and a great feeling, extremely cheap 49 key controller.

My only gripe - the USB lead could do with being another metre or so longer, but thats just me being fussy!
These speakers are absolutely brilliant!
In the last six months I have bought three sets of these speakers and they are about the best small computer speakers I have come across.
Sound quality is excellent and with a small footprint, they don't take up too much room. They might not have the bottom end that some people require but if you need that much bottom end, you wouldn't be buying thease speakers.
Good all round speakers, highly recommended !
With a good selection of field recorders out there, it is hard to decide. It took me nearly 3 months to decide, I even bought a Tascam DR-1, when I opened the packaging the jog wheel fell off, sent it back and started looking again! The MicroTrack II was my original choice and I'm glad I got it!
It's light, easy to use, the menus are easy to navigate through and see (at night the light is great), I like the feel of the buttons on the front for mic/volume control, Nav wheel feels good, all the other buttons are very well placed and easy to use (a HOLd button is always useful), lots of inputs for various audio plugs/sockets,
Charging it up can take a while and I'd use a plug socket to do that not USB. Registering with M-Audio and downloading firmware updates are on a leaflet inside the box with the links to do this. What you get with the recorder are very useful, Editing Software Audacity(if you need it), Carry case, Earbuds, stereo microphone, an extension for mic to clip on your tie etc, A power pack with a great selection of plug sockets for when you go overseas and charge it up via plug socket, USB cable, no Compact flash card (but they're quite cheap now).
I've recorded many things indoor and out in the streets, it does perform well with the included mic, pics up alot of things you don't hear yourself, it can stand a bit of wind and can be discreet with the extension mic/clip to hide. the mic does pick up on a bit of handling noise when connected directly to the recorder (not alot though, IMO), so it's best to keep earphones in and check out how to handle it so it doesn't pick up on what you do too much. When connected via the extension clip, i connect it on my cuffs, walk round it does work very well.
The mic does sound good, the stereo sounds does work well and I am happy with it.
This is a good unit, I weighed up all the the plus and minus point with all the other recorders out there and this one won for its weight, ease of use, sample rates, accessories (the various plugs are great, for people who travel the globe!), I like the look and the menu design is very good.

I bought this card a few years ago for professional sound recording, editing and creation. As a guitarist and artist I use it in a 64-bit AMD PC running Gentoo Linux for AMD-64. The connectivity and sound quality is perfect (note: using Cyrus CLS-50 speakers) for my multi in/out needs and so is the compatibility of this product under Linux. Stability 100% and I have never had any reliability issues. The only reason I went for the LT model is because the version with the external box was too expensive for me. As far as I can see, the only downside with this product is that switching between line-level or mic-level for the two balanced analogue inputs must be done using jumpers on the PCI board itself - which is a pain because in order to do that with my system I have to remove the card from the computer completely to get to the jumpers. That is why it doesn't quite score a 10/10 from me.
I bought the X-Session about a year ago when I started to get into laptop DJing seriously, and also to use it as a controller for virtual instruments and recording software.

Probably the most important feature that led me to choose this over others was the price! its a fantastic price for such a useful piece of hardware. Cheap enough for a skint students like me to afford!

Despite the price, the design and finish is great. It doesn\'t look toyish or gimmicky like some controllers out there. Its survived many gigs, had beer spilt on it, and the crossfader still feels good! Its very easy transferring from CDJs and a normal DJ mixer to the X-Session, once you remember you\'ve assigned the first and last vertical fader to pitch and not volume!

However the most important aspect is that it just works! You plug it in, assign controllers, and play. I\'ve never had any problems with the computer recognising it, and i\'ve used it without trouble on XP, Vista, and OSX.

The only problems i\'ve had were assigning the crossfader in some programs, as the unit sends two midi control numbers from the crossfader. It took me a while to figure out that CC17 was the one to be used, and is assigned by moving the fader very slowly.

The other problem was using the x-session with Resolume (VJ software). I often perform very fast cuts and transitions on the vertical faders and this sometimes causes strange behaviour and mixed-up assignments. However this is more likely to be a software problem.

I\'d also like the vertical faders to be as free as the crossfader (like on quality DJ mixers) but that\'s just a minor thing.

So in conclusion its a brilliant controller that i\'d highly recommend for digital DJs and producers alike!
When I started getting into making music as a hobby I made the mistake of buying a Yamaha CS2X synth for over 300 (and even that was rather cheap for it then!). It was a good synth, but I found myself only using it as a midi controller, hence leaving about 80% of it's functions left alone. The synth was also large and bulky, and with not enough knobs to control parameters within VST's.
That's when I decided I wanted a midi controller that was designed for that very purpose. The M-Audio Oxygen 49 seemed like the perfect choice; simple, designed with many knobs and sliders, all the basic controls one would ever need in a midi controller. I was very impressed when this got delivered, it's VERY light, compact, does what it says on the tin.
Just make sure to read the manual that's on the CD you get with the Oxygen, there is only a printed "quick start" manual that's rather useless.
What can I say..... excellent speakers for this budget price!! Loud enough to be "too loud" for a room (if you turn them, up to eleven)but still reasonably clear at high volume. However ...people dont buy small speakers to fill Wembley! These little beauties are GREAT!! The headphone input on front is handy, but even more so is the front Aux in, as you can ...say plug in your ipod or whatever and blast away. As for recording in your room, then these little monitors are exactly what I was looking for..without breaking the bank...you get great sound!! Simple as that!!...combined with Dolphin music's great service.....you cant ask for more!!
I bought this several years ago with its companion breakout box " audio buddy". sadly this seems to be no longer for sale. This was my first foray into the world of digital PC recording. Since then i have learnt a great deal, but have no plans to part with this soundcard. I echo the comments of others RE: VISTA. Why would you want to use such a CPU hungry OS for a PC intended for music applications?? I guess there are better OSs than XP for this, but equally sure there can be none worse than VISTA
I'm an audiophile, having owned equipment by Martin Logan, Mark Levinson, Krell, etc.
These earphones are a rebrand of UE's triple-fi.
You get what you pay for with these. If you're looking for a listening or musical experience from your iPod or any other stereophonic equipment, these are really good.
I'm using these with my 5th gen iPod.
I can't stand all digital music. It creates an unnatural sound experience and I have found that when I lost my UE super-fi's that I stopped listening to my iPod.
When I found these ear phones, there were no review out on them. Then I learned that they were a rebrand of UE's. So, I looked up reveiws on the UE triple-fis. The reviews were all positive so, I bought them.
I found the sound from these earphones to be extremely neutral and very detailed. Once again, I am able to experience the music on my iPod.
I am able to hear nuances that I cannot hear with any other (in) earphones(including UE's super-fi's) and I tried all of them. I think that I'm very critical when it comes to recorded sound and I really like these.
On some jazz recordings (like Archie Shepp's "Backwater Blues"), I found a slight coloration in the sound. But what can I expect from drivers this small?
My only minor complaint is that the sound could be just a touch warmer. It would, in my opinion, make the sound a little bit more natural.
Now, I look forward to listening to my iPod again and having a nice listening experience, hearing some great recordings while I'm out and about around town or sitting in an airport or on a plane.

This case has two zips on the lid which are intended to meet in the middle. On the case supplied one of these was immovable. It is, of course, possible to take the remaining zip all the way round and so the case is usable. However, It doesn't say much for the quality control as the working of the zips is the most obvious thing to check. It would appear that no checking was done.
Needing an affordable solution to home audio recording and hearing of m-audio's reputation - I intrepidly researched and then decided on the delta 1010lt as my sound card of choice.

There are lots of cards to choose from - depending on your needs - you can go all the way up to top-of-the-range professional cards.

So how does the delta 1010lt figure?

It's without the rack inputs of the regular delta 1010 - which means you have to run through a mixer(s) or tackle spaghetti junction behind the computer. This is the biggest drawback with purchasing the 1010lt, but if you can think ahead to how many individual inputs you need and how you will deal with arranging this - you can over come this problem. I have found a solution (other than buying an 8-bus mixer which costs an absolute bomb) which is to purchase an 8x8 rack and add this on to the inputs. You can get one for about 350-400 for the long-term solution of having a semi-professional DAW. If you need this more quickly, a better choice is to go for the regular delta 1010, as it has a rack unit.

Installing the delta is quick and easy - it has a neat virtual mixer and has a thoroughly tuned driver history. I have heard little or no problem will come from compatability issues because of the length of time it has been in action.

I used the delta with Mackie's Tracktion 3 - a great bit of music software. Very quickly I discovered that there is no latency problem when using m-audio's AISO driver.

The unit is stable and records at a very acceptable quality.

I bought this sound card for two reasons: firstly, I was using the soundcard that came with my PC, and midi latency was ridicuous; and secondly, I needed a soundcard that would allow me to use ProTools M-Powered.

It arrived the next day from Dolphin, a very quick delivery indeed. Out of the box, I opened the quick-start guide which was pretty straightforward installation instructions. However, it contained references to a full product manual, which was no-where to be seen, but was pretty easily downloaded from the M-Audio website.

Once slotted in, I installed the driver CD that came in the box, everything seemed fine. Until, that is, I started Pro-Tools: no M-audio interface could be detected. It took me a while of internet searching to work out the problem: I needed to install the more up-to-date drivers from the M-Audio website which, once done, resolved the problem and pro-tools worked fine.

The difference in audio playback was just amazing, and midi latency down to an indistinguishable-from-zero level.

So I would thoroughly recommend this soundcard, with the minor caveat that you shouldn't assume everything you need to install it will be in the box!
Put simply - the best soundcard I have ever bought. The quality of the sound coming out of my speakers is now incredible and crystal clear (if only I had a better pair of monitors!). With the 36-bit mixer, apparently no hardware clipping can occur but as the manual points out, too hot a DAW output will probably ruin that particular feature as the audio will sound clipped before it reaches the 36-bit mixer. However, for mixing live performance straight into the soundcard the feature is amazing.

Most people will be able to install the drivers and forget about it, although there are plenty of options to fiddle with in the control panel.

I recommend that the 2496 be combined with an outboard mixer like the Behringer Xenyx range. The constant plugging in and removal of cables at the back of the computer was beginning to annoy me. With a Xenyx 1002FX, for example, you can have the ins and outs of the 2496 permanently connected to the mixer. This also has the advantage of opening up even more inputs as well as introducing 24-bit effects and a more hands-on approach.

The soundcard is perfect by itself to suit even the most demanding home studios and combined with a mixer is unbeatable except by its big brother Audiophile 192 if you want balanced TRS ins and outs. However, at typical home studio cable lengths, I would suggest the difference is not worth the extra price. Amazing!

Having read a lot about this product (some good reviews, some bad) i decided to fork out 339 and buy it.

Turns out it was a good decision.

Having spent 10 minutes trying to get the thing out the box, I plugged it in, connected midi and I was away. Straight away, I noticed the keys played great, and the piano sound was pretty decent.

The pedal supplied is great, and the sounds and features are fantastic (I especially like the ride cymbal layer). However it is rather heavy which could be a negative as I will use this for gigging, and the piano sound does sound a bit odd in the octave above middle C when using it on full volume. You get used to it though.

All in all though, a great purchase, and I'm sure I will use it for years to come!
If you're looking for a fairly compact set of reference monitors(6.5"wide by 8.75"deep)these are hard to beat at the price. They give a nice flat response, the separation is excellent and at home studio levels you are unlikely to need to drive the amps hard.

comparable product?
The back panel is more or less identical to the ESI nEar 05 which sugggests the internals may not be too dissimilar. Both have Kevlar LF drivers & Silk HF drivers, similar power and a similar frequency response.
(the BX5A edges it on response & has a slightly lower crossover frequency). The main difference is the cosmetics and you shouldn't really be basing your purchase on their looks.
