Idulgent and rythmic but it likes a nicely matched speaker, no tone control which with valves can be annoying given the apauling mess that is the iPod EQ.

I still prefer my high end transistor gear but for 600 i tell you it gave a 5k system a good run for the money.

Gets a bit messy at loud volumes and i sooo wish the world hadn\'t gone digital and i could hear into the RF.

I am very very pleased with my purchase though, it\'s good to find a piece of kit that have the hairs on your kneck standing up.
The Fatman was bought to replace a much-loved but sadly dead Linn Classik; if you don't know, the Classik is an all-in-one box comprising amp, CD player and tuner, but given that I haven't played a CD for years and never used the tuner at all, it didn't feel like I was losing out. First impressions of the Fatman are excellent; it's heavy and feels very well put together, and looks very handsome sitting there with its valves glowing away. The iPod dock is similarly attractive - both are finished in chrome and black, and you even get a pair of fine cotton gloves to prevent greasy fingerprints transferring themselves to your new piece of kit. A shame then that the supplied remote control unit (it controls your iPod, not the amplifier itself)is such a cheap and nasty little item. Plasticky and lightweight, it really lets the rest of the package down. But you forget all about that when you start to listen to it. It sounds glorious. It has a detailed and airy quality to it, but there's also a sweetness to the proceedings which I've never heard before. Don't get the wrong idea, though - The Sex Pistols still sound as biting as ever, it's just that everything's presented in a very natural manner that you have to hear to understand. I've listened to everything from rock to dance, folk, pop and classical - the Allegretto from Beethoven's 7th sounds more hair-raisingly beautiful than I've ever heard it sound before, and in addition, you can really hear the "black" silence of the auditorium in between the music. It's fantastic. I'm so pleased with this amplifier, and would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone. Shame about the remote control, though.
Good sound, looks great and good value for money when you compare price with Amazon etc. Works best with uncompresed media, but ipods do sound good, and the ipods bass is not distorted. The amp has a flat response for other inputs (no bass or trebble adjustment. Cheapest on the Net!!!
