I really cant fault this little gem of a control box!

Having been a vinyl DJ for 10 years I then moved in CDJ mixing for 5 or 6 years so I was a bit aprehensive about how I would take to laptop mixing.

I had used Traktor without a midi controller which I wasnt comfortable with at all. I then tried Traktor with my pals Hercules and Numark controllers but still felt it didnt provide the feel that a CDJ and and conventional mixer would give you. I then stumbled accros the DJ2 controller. I had heard that a select few big name DJ\'s such as Pete Tong always used this tool so I decided to investigate further.

I tried to find tutorials for the DJ2 controller on youtube etc but there wasnt much out there at all. Not only that but none of the retail stockists seemed to have a DJ2 that I could try hands on!

The cheapest quote I got was from Dolphin so I decided to jump in and get the box anyway. The manual isnt too long at only 20 pages and I had manage to get my head around all the controls after a week or so! Its control of the fader, pitch and effects etc gives the same feel as a conventional mixer so it was pefect for me! Im a pro DJ and now take this little box and my lappy everywhere I play! It had its first real test last week and I had taken part in a DJ Soundclash...which I ended up winning might I add :o)

Please be aware that you need a soundcard for the DJ2 to work! I had originally purchased it along with a midi-usb lead but that isnt enough as you need to be able to monitor the tracks in headphones and just a lead doesnt give you that option! I purchased the native instruments Audio Kontrol 1 Soundcard which is perfect and gives good headphone volumes when using in a club!

If you are considering switching to laptop mixing, the faderfox is an absolute must, nothing else touches it!!

Enjoy!

Not had my DJ2 long, but it\'s great. I\'ve used faderfoxes for while and the build quality on this unit is what I\'ve come to expect from FF - excellent! For use with traktor, the supplied setup files are spot on and I had full control over the software, just the way I wanted it 5 minutes after getting the DJ2 out of the box. I\'m also using it chained with 2 LV2s to control Ableton live. The setup files weren\'t much help here - understandable as it\'s primarily a traktor controller - though there are some sets for live on the disc which do include the DJ2 and 1 LV2, though not much use to me as I\'m using 2 LVs! However, integrating it into my live chain was very easy, and I was able to assign it just the way I wanted it with no problem at all - 20 minutes setup time. I\'m overall well impressed with the DJ2, as I have been with all the FF gear. Still not sure I\'ve got enough of them and may well be tempted to buy more!
These controllers absolutely rock! I have had 2 LV2s for a couple of months now and I really can't fault them at all. I don't use a power supply with them and as other reviewers have noted, they run for AGES on batteries. In fact, even after sunstantial use, I'm still running on the original batteries! The one slight criticism I did have (took a while to get the setup right even using the included setup files) evaporated when I upgraded from Ableton Live 6.0.1 to 7.0.3 as Ableton Live 7.0.2 and above includes native support for LV2, LC2, LX2 and LD2 - it's literally plug & play and the LV2s control all the parameters you need them to. These are so good I'm going to buy another one! (or maybe the LC2 for that lovely crossfader - can't decide if it's worth sacrificing a row of keys or not).
The Faderfox LV2 module is a nicely built unit, which has all the features you need to get rocking with Ableton Live. The sliders, rotary encoder, and X-Y joystick, and buttons are all of good quality and feel like they will last a good while - friends of mine have been using this module for about a year and have had no problems.

Ableton does not have a dedicated Midi profile for any of the Faderfox range, however, the unit comes several user defined profiles which you can use to start an Ableton project in various configurations e.g. 6 Midi 6 Audio etc, that have good default Midi control mappings that will get you started.

The unit allows you control 12 tracks and effects, by means of multiplexing the control sliders and knobs - this means you need to get your head around how to drive the LV2 to begin with, however, once you have spent a few hours fiddling with it will become second nature.

When you buy the unit you will get the profiles CD, the LV2 module and a manual and nothing else -if you are short on Midi leads buy extra, and if you don\'t already have a Midi interface for your PC/Laptop you will need one as this unit does not have a USB interface - basic Midi to USB interface leads are about 20.

The unit does not come with a power supply, however, it comes with a set of batteries pre installed, making it ready to run out of the box - the batteries really do last long time, and when they are due for replacement a yellow warning LED flashes at you to change them.

Top product, and a must for beginners on Ableton Live....

I\'ve had my DJ2 for a while now, and it\'s a lovely little box. All the controls needed for laptop DJing and nothing else in a nice compact box.

I have been using an Evolution X-session for a while and while it\'s got a crossfader and plenty of pots it\'s not quite got enough buttons and it\'s not very intuitively layed out.

So I went all out and got a DJ2 and a DX2 and I\'ve not looked back. The DJ2 has all the controls you need for laptop djing, in a format which mimics a proper DJ mixer.

One thing at first stopped me, the Faderfox controllers are midi, not usb connected and therefore need a usb interface and power supply. The are designed to be powered using batteries (3xAA, supplied) which are estimated to run for about 80-100 hours before they need changing. So all you really need is a midi interface, which most sound cards have anyway.

I\'m glad I looked past the USB/midi thing and went ahead though, they\'re great controllers which are perfect for Traktor, in fact they come with traktor configuration files so setup takes minutes. You can daisy-chain them using midi so that you can fully control the 4 decks in Traktor. I bought a DJ2 and a DX2 and with them both in tandem I can fully control two decks without ever having to touch my machine (you can even use the pots to search through your playlist and choose tracks). Or I can have an adequate amount of control over 4 decks (I\'m still playing with this right now and it\'s great fun).

I give them 9 out of 10, the only downside is the slight fear of running from batteries rather than having them nicely powered by USB. So buy some rechargeables and make sure you put a fresh set in before you play anywhere live :).

Highly recommended.

 Well,.
Dolphin sent me my micromodul LX2 and i opened it out of the box and couldnt wait to get to work on this baby,.aesthetically it looks so good,.
and in performance,..
it realy strutts its stuff,.
from within Ableton using the performance templates you have lots of control for your music creation,.launching scenes and / or clips is a breeze,as is muting, solo and lots more all can be called up with a button hit,its so easy to adlib using this device - triggering good loops on the fly and muting others, used in conjunction with the LV2 you have serious power in your hands.,
admitedly i am going to need a few weeks to get realy good with both my foxes but even as a beginner - with the help of my faderfoxes i litteraly rock.
i gave 9 out of 10 simply and only because the Lx2 doesnt come with a power supply and it can take a little time to get to grips with.
great little unit,BIG on control.
I have bought both the latest models from faderfox, here are my feelings on the Faderfox micromodul LV2.
well its a great product, very well built, sturdy and quite heavy for its size.
with this model you realy can do some mad live stuff within ableton,.you have control over things like clip pitch and loop points etc for each clip, the faders for tracks are great and feel good,.all midi controls realy are instant,
i only gave the product 9 out of 10 because it doesnt come with a power supply.,however they do come with batteries and the batteries do last for ages.
honestly tho i dont think ill be using mine with a PSU because there so handy, you litteraly just plug in,.switch on and go.
great if not "must have" for use with ableton.
As an avid user of Ableton Live I thought it was finally time for a midi controller for live applications and recording in the studio. After weeks of researching, I decided to go for the Faderfox LV2 as it is specially made for Ableton via midi port, which means it is compatible with all Macs and Windows based computers. I've had the LV2 for a week. There are no problems up to date, as a matter of fact it's performing perfectly for my personal setup. I highly recommend the LV2 for anyone who wants a controller for Ableton Live.
Cheap, Nasty, Flimsy and Useless... 4 words that could never be associated with this wonderful product.

For anyone using LIVE! as their main music package, these little boxes of dynamite should be seriously considered.

Within 24 hours my workflow has increased 10 fold and my mouse has become my secondary input device... Simply superb!

Couple this unit with the LV1, strap on the DJ1 and you are ready for anything, from a live performance, to bedroom DJ'ing to full on studio production.

OK..so now the important stuff.

A lot have people on various forums have shown some concern to the fact that it uses MIDI as its interface as opposed to USB...so what about latency between control movement and the response onscreen...? THERE IS NONE! Its instant!
MIDI connectors also allow for true plug and play with no drivers to install and you can keep expanding these units by simply daisychaining or piggybacking one off the other until you reach your ideal setup.

There is so much control hidden beneath its diminutive exterior and besides coming with predesigned templates for LIVE! and Traktor, it is simplicity itself to hit the learn button in LIVE! and setup your custom templates.

In regards to build quality, its probably one of the most solid controllers I have ever had the pleasure to use. The casing is solid ABS plastic with a nicely inlaid black alluminium faceplate, the pots are smooth with no wobble, buttons feel like buttons and not spongy pads (a little lateral rattle is all you get which is normal, but the push action is firm and decisive.)
The faders are smooth with just the right amount of cushioned resistance and the same applies to the crossfader and that little X/Y joystick is suprisingly usuable considering its size.

OK...so what about its bad points....erm...none really...!

I was initially concerned about such a large amount of controls on such a small surface area being a bit cramped when I'm "in the zone" but so far no mishits or accidental button presses due to the fact that its so well laid out!

Also you must consider its greatest strength is also its greatest weakness. Its primarily a LIVE! controller and although it can be adapted for other sequencers, as yet there are no overlays available for your chosen sequencer, so if you work across multiple platforms it may be worth while looking elsewhere (Behringer BC controllers or the more upmarket Makckie control Universal etc...)

But...and this is a bigger But than J-Lo's... If (as I said before) you are a LIVE! addict, in my opinion there is no substitute for these baby's!

These are rock solid, incredibly well designed controllers with extreme attention to quality control.

On a final note: You can order direct from faderox in Germany and save yourself the Princely sum of around 10, but for my money that 10 is worth the service and suppport from Dolphin Music. Dealing with a reliable UK seller is priceless should any problems occur with your product and its a lot less hassle than shipping items back and forth to Germany, should the worst happen.

Right...thats it...I'm off to annoy the Neighbours, check the Faderfox range out, you know it makes sense.

(This review also applies to the LV1 & DJ1 Faderfox units also available at Dolphin Music.)

I have had one of these devices for a few months, and am really happy with it. The faders and knobs all have a great 'feel', with just the right amount of resistance. Do be aware that the unit itself is actually pretty small- it will fit in one hand, like an oversized TV remote. It is battery powered, but the batteries last for ages, and apparently give you plenty of warning before expiring via a red light (e.g. time enough to finish your gig).
