Firstly, can I thank dolphin music who persisted in recommending these against Behringer actives that were more expensive! I am blownaway by both the build quality and performance from these boxes. I am part of a small cabaret band, and thesen fit the bill for us. They are lightweight, but still solid and robust. The clarity from these is fantastic. We originally bought these to accompany our Mk1 Mackie SRM 450's for larger gigs, however we quite often just take these now as they are lighter, and I think they have a better vocal presence!

Thanks Tapco & Mackie - These are worth every penny!

Gotta give it 6 stars for value for money.

Quality of mic preamps is good.

However... and it\'s quite a big one. If you\'re PC user, you\'re pretty much retricted to XP forever. Tapco are not good at driver updates. You get a lot of brush-off from their tech support, but no real answers.

Play with ASIO4ALL and you can get below 12ms latency on a decnet laptop.

It about what you expect for 149 and maybe a little more.
Really easy to use, if you\'re using a mac it really is a case of plug in and its ready to go! As for sound quality, for the price its what you\'d expect. I\'ve been using it with a Shure SM57 and its actually great for mic-ing my amp (Marshall Valvestate 100), although I do have to turn the gain up to almost maximum, which does produce a bit of fuzz. Ive not tried it with a lagre diaphragm condenser but I\'m hoping to get some reasonable results. Ive tried mic-ing my acoustic using a AudioTechnica small diaphragm condenser (cant remember the model number) but you really have to turn the gain up, which again adds some fuzz. All in all for an enrty level audio interface I\'d definately reccomend it!
I was recently given the job of buying a complete P.A. set up for my uni hall of residence, with the requirements that it be good value for money (it was being paid for out of the residents\' subs,) suitable for use in a large number of venues and most importantly able handle a variety of sound demands, from spoken announcements to electronic music to blues/rock and ceilidh bands.

I must admit that I am no experienced sound technician, and my initial feeling was to go with a package set, such as the Yamaha Stagepass series, which I had used while playing in bands at school. My other alternative was a Behringer powered mixer and a set of passive speakers. I made a call to Dolphin for advice, and the gentleman in sales tipped me off to the active Tapco Thump speakers. I am so glad he did!

I used the thumps for the first time the other day, coupled with a simple Behringer mixer, at our annual hall ball. In a 200 person ball room they coped admirably (and with volume to spare!) with speeches, a DJ set, a ceilidh band and an 8 man jazz rock band. The sound was loud, precise and professional, and both the acts and the audience thought the Tapco Thumps were great! On the back of their success everyone is suddenly interested in musical events again, and I have absolutely no doubt that these will make back their cost many times over in both enjoyment and saved hire fees!

I do have one reservation, and that is to the suggestion that these would make appropriate studio monitors. These speakers come to life at louder volumes; at low levels they produce a quiet but noticeable hiss from the small tweeter at the top of the unit (although this is only at just above laptop speaker volume, and could be due to my connections!) Realistically, though, this is not why I, or you, would buy these. But them to play live and loud- they do this quite exceptionally!
I bought these speakers because of the Mackie name. The overall sound is punchy, controlled and detailed with no hint of mid-range \'boxiness\', the 12kH eq is just right for a little presence on vocals and they are more than powerful for small venues.

They are quick n easy to set up, are lighter than other similar speakers, have integral handles in the sides and top and the top hat hole has a groove to guide the stand into (brilliant!).

I have only had them for a few days but have gigged them already to compliments from the audience. They look good too. I teach music technology and although I can\'t make claims about their lifespan, I would say there is nothing to match them, especially at Dolphin\'s prices, quality of service and delivery. These were ordered on a Thursday and arrived Friday lunchtime in Northern Ireland!

One point, though - these must be made for the US as the mains cables came with US 2-pin plugs. Luckily I had a couple of UK ones spare! That aside - a great deal! Highly recommended.
I now have a headache from listening to these things full blast for the last two hours haha, but i love them!! I got these speakers along with a Behringer Xenyn 1002 mixer and its an amazing combination. I got them primarily for my 18th party and they fill the marquee brilliantly, loads of depth to the sound, good punching bass so perfect for drum and bass and electro. Sometimes the vocals weren\\\'t very clear on some rock tracks but i have yet to play with the eq so that problem should be easy to sort. Obviously you dont get the body shaking feeling you would from a sub but then they arent a sub so dont expect it. One issue i had with buying them was the look of them in the picture. They look a dull horrible grey but they are actually black with yellow bits on them and a grey/silver mesh so they look really smart!!

Overall a brilliant pair of speakers with superb range from bass to treble and a great price too!! Dont have any second thoughts about getting these speakers. Great for partys and will make a great pair of monitors for my room!!

Also excellent service and delivery from Dolphin, recieved my whole set up next day at about 12 o\\\'clock!!
Bought a TH-15A for use with a new Roland V-Drums kit (TD-9KX).

I was looking for an active speaker that could be used for low-level monitoring as well as for sound-reinforcement on stage. Ok, let\'s throw the occasional neighbour-hated houseparty in there too.

The Thump does exactly what it says on the tin. It\'s 15\" driver reproduces the kick with style. There\'s no real need for a sub here. The midrange is nice and clear and the treble carries well whilst still being nicely defined.

EQ on the back (high, sweepable mid and low) is useful, but not really necessary as the speaker response is already nice and flat and I adjust most EQ settings in the drum module.

The housing is nice and sturdy, whilst the whole unit is very light for a speaker of this type (around 17kg). I believe the digital amplifier helps in this department. However, I also believe the amp is responsible for the one slight drawback to this speaker - when listening at what are relatively very low levels, there is a slight \'fizzle\' at the end of any input when transitioning to silence. This does not exist at any higher volumes. I think it may be to do with impedance - I will connect a mixer and report back.

In short, if you\'re looking for a high quality item (Mackie engineers, no less) that can play loud whilst not making people\'s ears bleed, this is the way to go.

These are a truly good pair of monitors. I previuosly bought a pair of the S8\'s and was thoroughly impressed so i thought id get a pair of the S5\'s aswell. Now owning both sizes of theses monitors i would reccomend the S8\'s over these. The 5\'s are amazingly good but if you want these for a home sound system or bassy mix sessions i would suggest buying the SW10 subwoofer just to add some low end output. Dont get me wrong, these monitors have a good range on them and superb quality, however, overall i think you get what you pay for and would spend the extra to get the S8\'s as they have a lower frequency output and therefore dont need a sub. Very good quality and an amazing bargain for a monitor in this price range.
I am using these with an apogee duet and I can hear everything I need to produce a well leveled and rounded mix.

Thanks to Tapco and Dolphin, you both deserve a model for putting me onto these beauties!
I\'ve had this card for about 3 years now, and I must say it has served me pretty well. Latency is low and perfectly fine for making tunes with a midi keyboard and vst instruments.

The problem lies with compatibility. For some reason it just does\'t get on with my Acer Aspire 5620 laptop - I sometimes get a really excruciating crackling noise when I listen to music and browse the internet at the same time (it doesn\'t like pages with a lot of flash or animations going on) which is REALLY annoying when going on myspace, youtube etc. Had I known more about soundcads at the time, I would have sent it back, but I always assumed the fault was with my computer.

Tapco are a great make, I have actually just bought the blend 6 mixer and a Korg hardware synth (the R3...amazing!) to add to my setup. The mixer is very high quality and does the job brilliantly. However the audio inputs on the soundcard are very noisy, and I\'m getting noise and hum whenever the soundcard is plugged into it. This isn\'t acceptable, as I have invested about 500 on studio outboard, and now realised my soundcard is just not up to the task. As you can imagine, once I layer up a synth bass, pad and lead the noise is then amplified x3...making for disapointing results.

Like I say The tapco mixer is great. I think the real problem lies with their software department. The drivers for this card havent been updated since the day I bought it, which is frustrating as a driver update would probably have solved my compatibility issues. As a rsult I\'m using Asio4all drivers, which should really be a last resort as it is just a general driver for any audio card. Oh yeah sometimes when I have a lot going on in cubase/ableton, audio just stops all of a sudden and is replaced by white noise...VERY LOUD white noise that is VERY painful. The only way to recover is to stop everything, exit the program, unplug and replug the soundcard. This got me on two occasions when I was DJing with ableton at a free party. NOT GOOD!

I realise now when shopping for a soundcard, a good idea is to go with a company that is serious about driver updates. The problem with windows is that certain PCs dont like certain soundcards, and no one really knows which unless you are lucky enough to find someone on a forum with the same laptop and soundcard you are looking to buy. For that reason I cannot reccomend this card for anyone using an Acer laptop!

Otherwise its not bad for the money I guess (although when i bought this it was 130)...If I could just have trouble free operation (perfectly possible on most pcs/macs) I would have been a lot happier. That said the issue with noisy inputs means I will now be getting rid of this and looking for a no frills firewire solution with low noise levels...and hopefully I\'ll get some long needed reliability thrown in for good measure.
We bought four of these as stage monitors - they are excellent.

Over the years I\'ve used several flavours of Peavey monitors, Carlsbro Alphas and JBLs, I have say that these are the best by some margin.

Physically, they\'re quite compact and built in a wedge-shape (although they can also be mounted on poles) so they are happy either in a line at the front of the stage or \'aimed\'. I was worried that the horn would be too wide for a monitor, giving too much spillage and causing feedback, but it doesn\'t seem to happen (we\'re using SM58s and D5s - more or less cardioid mics).

The sound is clear with a very faithful response through the frequency range - and they have plenty of power too. (The disadvantage here, of course, is that now I know how rough my voice sounds.)

The only minor quibble I have - and I have to bear in mind that they aren\'t primarily sold as stage monitors - is that we could do with the gain and eq controls on the front to save rummaging.

All in all an excellent product. They seem very robust too - but there, time will tell.

This device seems to be well-made and functions well. We set it up to connect 4 61-note MIDI keyboard controllers for use with virtual organ software. It was connected via its USB port to the PC, and the keyboards were connected to the device by MIDI cables.
The PC has an Intel Quad Core CPU and 6Gbyte of RAM with Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit, and it worked without issue.
In the virtual organ hosting software application, each of the four MIDI inputs is clearly identified by input number, and so can be controlled and set up individually.
In short - a good device and seems to work according to specification.
It is perfect for small PA rigs or studios where sapce is an issue. Its so rugged, compact and tough for its size. The tapco thump speakers are just awesome. Huge sound and stunning bass make these a definate must have for anyone who want\'s a serious sound system for under 400. To be honest, these speakers even outdo sound systems that cost 300 more! I have even comapred these to the classic mackie 450\'s and there is not much difference in quality! I mix drum & bass and these certainly do the job with the sound clear and precise and the bass heavy as anything.

You also do not need a amp and these speakers also have a built in protection system when you blast them to the max [something i have not done yet!]

A must have.
As my amp and passive monitors died recently i was eager to get my hands on a pair of active monitors. I was looking at the Mackies SRM 350\'s and the JBL EON 10 G2, both around the 600 mark; when someone tipped me to have a look at these. They are not only cheaper but i would say they compete with the Mackie SRM 450\'s. The sound quality is that of studio monitors and they are perfect for home use as well as (small or house) parties. They are excellent for saving space as amps/passive monitors and tons of cables are no longer required.
I mix mostly electro and dubstep, so high quality of all frequencies (especially the lower ones) were imperative; i can tell you i was far from disappointed.
These were actually made by mackie engineers, and as far as i know were meant for those people on a budget, however i think they\'ve completley outdone themselves.
Absolutely perfect.
I was put onto these by someone at dolphin after I asked there advice for cheapish studio monitors. I received them the next day and I was blown away! These were replacing an old pair of sprit monitors (remember them!) and the quality was out of this world, I have A-B'd them with my friends considerably more expensive Mackie HR 624's and the performance isn't far off, the price however is, 400 cheaper!

Thanks for the advice Dolphin, these were a hidden gems in the confusing sea of <250 monitors that are available.
This mixer naturaly being designed by Mackie is a superior product over competitors. This mixer is the exception to you get what you pay for. The mixer has extremely rich and musical sound. I own a PVDJ Club Mix which I payed $611.00 USD for and this mixer blows the PVDJ away. The sound is absolutely phenominal. I did not show much trust in this mixer when I first purchased it a year ago, but this mixer after the very first application showed me what I had been missing out on all these years. The only other thing I would have liked to see on this mixer is a mono output. The mixer is very straight forward, and the only thing that will baffle you is how could a mixer for this price put out such clear highs, and tight punchy lows. I use Two pairs of Speakers, and a subwoofer and this mixer brings out the best sound of any mixer I have heard on the market.
I'd recommend it. Mainly I'd recommend spending the extra 10 over the Mix 50 - you get three band EQ instead of two, an aux send, an extra mic preamp and phantom power. It feels well built; I particularly like the chunky metal side panels. There's a reassuringly heavy PSU, though there's no actual power switch on the unit itself.

Overall it's phenomenal value - all this for only 40? You can't argue with that, it's even cheaper than Behringer! I've not had a chance to properly test the preamps but they sounded OK in a quick dry run with my substandard PA speakers. The only think I think this mixer lacks is an adjustable gain control on the stereo line channels. They don't peak with an ipod plugged in at full volume, though, and I find ipods usually output around +10 at full whack, so I should think it will cope OK. Also, note that there's no PFL, so you only get one peak light to monitor the input to the channels. But it's not really a big issue, especially at this price.
Being pretty new to home recording and the likes, this set of speakers were the perfect buddies for me and my projects.
Saying this, anyone with ears knows quality sound when they hear it.

As many of the reviews around do say, these small yet punchy speakers offer a crisp clear high end and sweet sounding mids. Many people have said the low end frequencies arent so good however, the first time I switched them on the thing that hit me straight away was the resposiveness in the bass, so there was no arguing from me.

They come with the bass boost and treble cut and boost for those who dont have studio proffessional acoustics in their bedroom like me :) which has definitely come in handy.

Overall brilliant, clear, with flexible resposiveness and perfect for anyone who wants to start a home project who is willing to pay more than 100 for a set of sexy soundin speakers. My personal best buy.
The S5\'s are nice small speakers and do not take up a lot of room, plus they are very solid and you can tell that just by touching them. Each speaker weighs about 15lbs each so they are quite heavy.

For small speakers they are very loud and sound really good, the highs are really nice and the mids sound good as well. The only thing that let\'s these down is the fact that the low end isn\'t particularly that heavy but they do still pack a punch. Just note that the bass frequencies drop quickly below 64Hz so if you want full deep bass you\'ll want to add a sub.

Overall the S5\'s are well worth the price and you can get really good mixes out of them as they offer decent clarity and depth with a lovely smooth sound. The S5\'s would really suite those with a small home studio.
Probably the best sub 600-800 monitors your money could buy.

Recently i was tasked with finding a good set of monitors for creating and finalising tracks by someone with a pretty much unlimited budget - whereby it could be justifyed & after listening to many, many different speakers i found myself choosing these over everything else.. i even upgraded my own monitors to these shorty afterwards. and heres why..

Dispite the fact that these monitors are most definately on the market, in a \'budget\' price bracket; don\'t let that fool you - they really deliver. they are brutally honest, clear & produce a soundstage thats so real, its a shock the first time you hear it.
Mixes created using these speakers manage to sound really good on pretty much any system you play it on. so theres no real need for additional monitoring for comparison.
This is furthered by the fact that the bass response on these is so deep (40hz odd), that you dont end up producing muddy \'small monitor\' mixes ..as is so easily done with other speakers. also because of this you wont really need a subwoofer !

Some people find the crispness of the top end on these speakers a little much to start with; as they are often used to listening to \'softer\', less honest monitors. you can boost and cut the speakers response for hi & low if you desire to match them to your tastes / the room (bass); however this defeats the point of accurate monitoring (& thus mixes) somewhat..

Although overall i really like the solid (heavy) build & design of these monitors (\'thonk\' free cabs, plenty of heatsink); i do have one niggle.. to some eyes the use of plastic, silver speaker trims may look a little cheap.. however i\'m quite happy to waive minor matters like this for having all the investment that went into these; going into making sound... which is what they are all about anyways !

In the end, i really couldnt see any fair competition from speakers in the same price range & i found it hard to justify spending really big money without having a room designed specifically for mixing & thus get the best out of them.

and if those sorts of thoughts come to mind; maybe its time to visit a pro studio..

Also something which folks into their hifi should check out; sitting back and listening to music on these is sheer pleasure.. however you may get a slightly rude awakening when you happen across the occaisonal mediocre recording !

reccomended to everyone & possibly affordable for all too !

It has been effective on all the applications ive used it for, on bass strait into my amp the difference in punch and tonal quality was phenomenal (comparing this to much higher priced items) for vocals i must commend the gate with its soft release and the air feature to attain a natural sound even under heavy compression!
This soundcard blew all my expectations out of the water, I thought I would be getting crap preamps on a 100 soundcard, but they bring the best out of my Rode NTK mic (possibly better than the old Edirol interface it replaced that cost a lot more!)

The Tracktion software is ok, but I prefer my trusty copy of Cubase, but it seems to work well and get a decent latency.

very high latency of 52.9ms on the asio (lowest latency) drivers(although this device does have 'zero latency' direct monitoring of input)
fairly noisy and weak mic preamps (can't believe mackie put thier name to it). Limited to 48kHz sampling rate (the promo info lies, stating it goes to 96kHz this is achievable only with WDM drivers and only unidirectional, still the actual convertors themselves only run at a max of 48 so no real data is captured past this) and the instalation forces the traction software onto your system whether you like it or not and the link usb has acknowledged problems with this software! Also the sound quality is generally thin and lifeless (although this is somewhat expected at this price point).

On the plus side it is light, simple, self powered and includes two mic pre's, two DI, two line preamps (max of two inputs can be used at one time) 3/4 large jack headphone socket two monitor outs on bal jacks and direct monitor mix all for under 100. you get what you pay for as always.
I'm sure a Sound engineer who got out of bed on the wrong side would pick a few holes in this little beauty but if you're thinking of buying one of these, it will be the best 50 you ever spend.
My old TASCAM 4-track needs a repair so I had been saving for a new mixer. I was going for a MACKIE but a friend suggested the TAPCO range which IS MACKIE but on the cheaper side ( a bit like the ROLAND/BOSS thing ).
Not being a sound engineer I'll tell you what I did - I plugged the following things into the TAPCO mix 100 :- 2 Computers, minidisk player, guitar, microphone, keyboard, desk monitors, headphones - and there's plenty of room for more!
I can't lie to you and say that the technical stuff like 'low headroom and signal to noise ratio' is good, but what I can say is that when I plugged everything in, the sound coming out ( or thru the mixer ) was great.
This mixer is a fabulous addition to my desktop studio and takes up minimal space which, in my case is invaluable.
It would probably cost more for me to have my 4-Track repaired than the cost of the TAPCO mix 100 so I reckon I got a great deal
We've got the whole band going through a Behringer desk, through the Tapco 2500, to EV Force subs, with Yamaha SV115s on top.

The Tapco helps deliver power without distortion getting us compliments at venues we play over the quality of our sound.

Its a heavy little beast, so I'm thinking of getting it a case with wheels on to save our backs!
These monitors sound amazing for their size and are extremely accurate, however if you reside in the UK be prepared to pay more cash for a UK mains cable as these ship with a couple of continental ones.
I recently purchased a Mix260fx as an upgrade to my aging Mackie CR1202. I have a few small shows that I piece together a sound system for, and needed something with more capabilities than the 1202. The opportunity came to make a purchase, and bang for the dollar, the Mix260fx delivers. This mixer is great, having features that are not usually found on small, inexpensive, compact mixers: assignable subgroups, HPF on mix channels, selectable line level gains on stereo channels, pre/post switching on Aux 1, actual faders (and not cheap ones - these feel nice), built in power supply (no wall wart), sweepable Mid PEQ, XLR left and right outputs, separate Left and Right faders, and built in effects, of which there are 16 variations of each effect. I know these are made by the folks at Mackie, and these seem to have filled the space that the CR1202 used to be in, as the main Mackie product line progresses more upscale. Sound quality is acceptable - not bad, but I have heard better. Console is quiet, effects are usable, all in all, a great value without sacrificing features.
This is my 3rd mixer board. It easily out preforms my other 2. I got it to take to gigs at a blues club, so portability was a must. I wasnt expecting such rich, full sound from this board. I just wanted a 'good' board that fit into my car. I am now using this as my main board in my home studio as well.

I have read that some wanted more mic inputs. I do a full live gig with only 4. I have used only 2 before. (left my other 2 at home!) and the sound came out just fine.
Hi I am a singer/guitarist who plays in open squares and small venues.
I finally purchased a Tapco mix 60 today

I tell you the story I had a Behringer Eurorack UB 802 compact mixer which i used to plug into my Mini 100 watt max powered Satgeline amp and from that ran my 200 watt pro sound speaker .I use it when I busk or do private garden parties.

Anyway after searching the net and reading reviews I contacted the music store and then went and got a Tapco Mix 60 .

I tried it for the first time today at a gig , as soon as I pluged my Tapco into my amp , when I put the amp on I was blown away by the crystal clear quality sound that was coming through my speaker .

I realised that Tapco use mackie inspired mic pre's .

The Tapco outshines many other compact mixers by far.I have tried the behringer and Yamaha comapct mixers but the Tapco , man I was well suprised with the quality though the mixer is small it gives a big sound.

The reason I got the Tapco mix 60 and not the Tapco Blend 6 was that the mix 60 was all that they had in stock and no other music shops had them in stock.

But I tell you I am so glad I got the Tapco ultra compact mix 60 , though its small the sound you get is suprisingly superb.

Its amazing the Tapco is almost half the price of the Yamaha one but the Tapco is far better though the yamaha has 10 mic/line channel inputs and the the tapco only has 6. Bt quality wise the Tapco mix 60 did it for me.

And if this is what the Tapco entry level compact mixers sound like I would love to hear what the upgrades sound like.
I definataly recommend it.

After struggling without a mixer with my computer setup (2 keyboards,1 guitar and 2 soundcards). I at last took the plunge and bought one of these beauties. The manual was understandable and a 'mixing newbie' like myself had the thing up and working in a matter of minutes. The inputs are quiet, the routing options are ideal for recording into a computer soundcard (emu 0404, another bargain) and the mono inputs allowing you to plug your guitar directly into the mixer is a bonus (I tend to use sotware effects). After hunting around for some time for a small mixer I feel that this comes top of the pile over Yamaha, Soundcraft and Behringer in this class.
I use the Tapco J2500 to drive my Mackie system, with a pair of 500's and 300's linked. I get unbelievable power and response across the whole range, and pound for pound, you get reliability, quality and power in abundance for the amount of money that you have to pay.
