Well made, good-soundng active cab, ideal as monitor. As FOH you\'ll definitely need bass bin (fortunately DB do a couple!). Even as a monitor you need to EQ a little bottom into it, but what would you expect from a 10\" cab.
Light, too - under 10kg.
And - if you just want one (as I did) the excellent Abyss Audio & Lighting will oblige for 160.
Not for metal bands, but ideal for many applications...
I ordered one of these speakers from decks.co.uk because they were 25 cheaper than Dolphin Music, but anyway, they haven\'t got a product customer review system so seeing as I was looking on this site anyway, I thought i\'d add my review.

Price : Excellent price given their sopund quality, build quality and DB Technologies reputation.

Sound Quality : For 300 the sound quality is excellent, and i\'d go so far as to say that with the equalization control nob set to \'FLAT\' the sound isn\'t far off the sound from my KRK studio monitors, which for pa speakers, is amazing. Sound wise, the bass is nice and punchy with a lot of clarity. The midrange is excellent considering its a 2-way design (there seems to be a gap in the frequency range between the low and high frequency drivers on most pa speakers as any driver above about 10\" has trouble replicating mid frequencies, with the case being more pronounced as the driver gets bigger), but the Opera 402 seems to have a very nice midrange indeed. The \'MUSIC\' setting does accentuate the vocals nicely and the \'MUSIC\' setting accentuates the low and high frequency more and leaves the midrange where it is. I definately prefer the beautiful sounding \'FLAT\' setting. They are capable of going quite loud (forget peak ratings because they are 6db above the REAL WORLD figure and no speaker is ever capable of outputting the peak figure unless totall clipped and distorted) giving out an impressive 122db at full power with no distortion. I knew the speaker would be good quality anyway considering they\'re made by RCF (DB Technologies and RCF is the same company, just like Panasonic-Technics etc...).

Build Quality : Well cabinet feels of a high quality, and the knobs feel nice, the handles are very useful and definately feel solid (unlike some moulded plastic speaker\'s handles which feel like they\'ll come off and \"oh no\", your cabinet falls to the floor), so you\'ve good handles. The grille on the front is strong and feel like it can take a serious knock so that ensures the driver isn\'t going to damaged in any way from some chav accidentally kicking your speakers (if you ever chose to have a few and mount them on the floor). There\'s a 230/120v selector on the back so if you wanted to, you could take them abroad, which would be a good thing if you were dj\'ing abroad and wanted to make damn sure the venue had a dj monitor by taking your own.

Overall : Well what more can I say. Excellent speakers, they have excellent sound quality, excellent build quality, and are only 300 each (depending where you buy them) so i\'d rate these speakers as a 10 out of 10 really. I\'ve been a sound engineer since 1994 and so know quality and have high standards for audio equipment, and generally everything else too, and so you know from my opinion that when I say you\'ll be impressed with these speaakers, its a review you can trust. I think they its so good that i\'m gonna buy another so I have 2, then I can also use them anywhere, like for producing music as a reference pa source, with my cinema system and take the pair round my mates house.

If you\'re in the market for a new pair of active speakers then go get yourself some of these DB Technologies Opera 402 cabinets, they\'re quite special. By the way, if you want good midrange then go for the 12\" 402 and not the 15\" 405.

I have had a pair of these speakers for several years now and can truly say they are among the best speakers I have used and owned. I use them for everything from foldback, main PA for bands and solo artists to playback of music for aerial ballet at kite festival. They sound amazing and many artists comment on the clarity and volume that they produce. Sound quality is exceptional considering the low cost of these speakers. They are tough and truely road worthy. they have survived a drop of six feet onto a hard floor with minimal cosmetic damage and no detrimental effect to the sound or reliability. When partnered with the sub15s these little gems shake the room. So much so that during one outdoor gig the police arrived to politely ask us to turn it down as the pub next door were complaining because their artist using a \"no highs no lows they must be ....\" rig was being drown out. They have survived rain, hail, snow and very rarely sun at outdoor venues during the summer. These speakers work extremely well when run from a cheap petrol generator with no extra noise or distortion. Also they are the only speakers that I haven\'t managed to blow the tweeters on. My only gripe is they can be a little hissy when there is no signal being fed into them. This is only noticable at close range.
When I first put these in I blew my brain out. The clarity was pretty awesome. Tends to cut out if the signal peaks which is annoying during the first few songs in a set, but safe too I guess.

Could do with the volume knob being a bit easier to access and adjust. Otherwise good coverage and sound response to my desk, I run a Beringher 2112. The ear-pieces are Sony and of really high quality. Worth around 60 pounds retail.

To be honest it can take months to learn how to use any new sound equipment. In-ears are even more so aligned with this. So...... ask me in 6 months or so, will probably tell you they've changed my life or something equally as drastic. At this stage I can say definately for the good.
This is a great product.

The quality of the signal over distance is very good and it has a high output. It is often a problem with tie clip microphones that they are not very sensitive, but this system works great!

This speaker is simply great for use with a an amp or without an amp. It's design allows it to be easily mounted as well as be seated without stand.
Using the speaker straight from a mixer gives you the great sounding quality you expect, and as a pair, the stereo imaging is incredible.
Alternatively, running the active speaker through a power amp, not only do you get amzing volume levels without as much distortion and feedback, you get insurance that your speaker will not blow as the amp protects it from this.
The speaker is not loud enough to play in a stadium, but for small bands and local venue runners, it is perfect.
A beutiful little piece of equipment really.
This is a brilliant affordable piece of equipment and very easy to set up. I'm a woman so trust me when I say it's easy. There are no distortions or hissing sounds present and it has a good range.

The body pack is very light and easy to use.

I would have scored it a Nine or Even a TEN but I feel itEURs let down by the fact you cannot get extras for it. I use the PU900 systems which is classed as a EURWireless Microphone SystemEUR but I took the option of the guitar pack. I wanted to buy the 900M microphone to allow me to do unplugged acoustic work which is an important part of my performance. Sadly DB wont sell this microphone. This is a shame and perhaps the only downside to a high quality unit. I know IEURm being picky but itEURs important to me.

BTW, Dolphin are brilliant and Richard is a credit to them

The L-160 makes for great monitors in duos and bands where the on-stage volume is not too loud. You will need one per muso or you may just get away with two of these as side-fills with 3 singers.

Don't buy their recommended speaker mount as it is too weak to support 4-5 kgs. Instead, get a machinist to make a 45 and 30 degree pole mount block and stick them on heavy duty mic stand tripods.

Cheers,

Well, over the years I have heard and used the offerings from large the manufacturers. I recently bought a pair of the 82.15 as I wasn't happy with the current build quality and performance of the Mackie products. Although they look more like the Mackie SA1232, their performance is targetted at the 1530s. These speakers are serious. The frequency response and clarity is amazing, even at full volume. The two 15" bass drivers provide plenty of grunt, even for the low frequencies and as such don't require separate subs for most applications. The only downside might be their size and weight but what you get in return is certainly worth it. DB have now become my manufacturer of choice, and although they are that popular in the UK at the moment, I suspect they will be with the increasing popularity of the Opera range. They work just as well with subs also.
