Looking back at the KP-1, I think it\'s a brilliant achievement on Korg\'s behalf to have produced such a great franchise based on the single, original X/Y pad. The KP-3 is even better than its predecessors as a high-end effects processor, with a much better sampling capability (in my opinion), and of course the long-standing MIDI control! One thing that stopped this product from getting the full 10 was the even more advanced complexity of the product, somewhat of a double edged sword. I world recommend this to any pro DJ!
This, quite simply, the best pedal tuner available right now. The biggest thing I look for in a tuner is speed - there\'s nothing more annoying than waiting for a tuner to detect the right note, except perhaps when it flicks between two different notes and jumps from in tune to sharp to flat and back again. This tuner is FAST and shows the correct note and tuning indication every time. It works as a conventional tuner but can also be switch to simulate a strobe tuner if you prefer. The \'true\' bypass is very good and totally transparent. The whole unit it built like a tank and will take serious amounts of abuse. Buy it. Now.

 User: Stephen Gard
Rating; 8/10
I\'ve owned my Korg D888 for over a year now, and used it on several occasions. I usually record live music: orchestral, choral, chamber, acoustic, but last year I was asked to record a friend\'s terribly loud blues trio, too. So the unit has had a real workout!

I\'m very pleased with it: up until the Day of the Korg, I used a four channel mixer and a DAT: suddenly, 8 channels and the chance to remix it all later with Pro Tools are mine. Looxury!

The Korg does everything it promises and does it well; read the specs and be impressed. Six hours of recording time is heaps for my purposes. I don\'t use the on-board FX, but I have fiddled with these to see what they do, and they are quite satisfactory. I haven\'t tried to edit in the machine, either, but a quick squiz at the book of words gave me no qualms. The manual is in English-English, uninflected by other syntaxes. Nice. I had the unit running to my satisfaction in less than 15 minutes. As ever, read the flippin\' manual; that\'s what it\'s for - flippin\'.

The Korg D888\'s operation is quite straightforward, and speaking as one who shuns not only bells, but also whistles, its simplicity amounts to elegance.

Two quibbles. The first; it has a terrifying habit of taking a terribly long time to write the recorded material to its internal hard disc drive, once one hits the STOP button. If you do this at interval, midway through a one hour concert, it means that you may miss the opening number of the second half, as I did once, while the Korg was busy number-crunching. What is more alarming is that this behaviour in problematical (i.e. unpredictable); on other occasions after a longish session, the D888 wrote the files in fifteen SECONDS. If I could spot a pattern (e.g. long session = long file-write time follows) I\'d feel calmer, but as yet there doesn\'t seem to be one. Perhaps it\'s still young, and formatting yet uncharted areas of its HDD?

Second quibble, there is very little headroom in the channel trimpots. They must be set at 8.9 or 9 out of 10 to produce a decent level from even my most expensive mics. (Neumann KM183s) and so I\'ve had to add a preamp to the input chain: a nuisance live - yet more gear to lug and set up and test...

When I\'m not working live, I use the Korg D888 to record final mixdowns out of my Pro Tools set-up: all eight channels of the DIGI003 can be output at once. Cool bananas.

Lasty micro-quibble: connect the Korg to your PC (a Mac man, me) and its icon does not always immediately appear on your desktop, which can cause cardiac arrest. I fixed this by using the Mac\'s System Profiler, and it soon found the Korg.

Still, every piece of gear I\'ve ever owned has its quirks, and the Korg as as quirk-free as one can hope. I\'d buy another at once if mine ever was deducted from my studio by some tea-leaf, or I dropped it, or spilled a chalice of burgundy into its vitals.

Korg Blimey, it\'s a little ripper, as we say in Oz.
Ordered this piano for uni since my friend had the same brand. She had trouble with Amazon, but Dolphin Music were fantastic. There was such a good level of customer support with help and advice every step of the way. Piano came really quickly too, shipped by private courier. Would benefit from better speakers, but for the price and the weight there are no complaints I can make.
I purchased the Korg SP-250 Digital piano through Dolphin Music on 25th August. I previously had a Yamaha keyboard but wanted something more professional and authentic sounding to play at wedding services after being told my Yamaha sounded a bit \'tinny!\'. I also just wanted something I would enjoy playing.

Overall I am very happy with my purchase. The weighting of the keys is excellent and the keyboard has 3 touch response options to suit different playing styles- allowing for a wide range of dynamics. It also comes with an excellent pedal and stand so allows for very expressive playing.

The sound quality is top notch. In particular the tonality of the main grand piano sound is quite dark and \'base-y\' and very rich both in top and lower notes. Organ sounds are also excellent.

Basically it is the whole package and at a very reasonable price too.

My only criticism is that it is not as portable as I had hoped. It is an 88 key keyboard and quite heavy so I am also having to invest in a carry case on wheels to take it to weddings. It\'s either that or a roadie.. :) Also, I haven\'t quite worked out how to transpose yet but I will get there..!

Overall I\'d give it 9/10 and wouldn\'t hesitate to buy it again.
well, what can i say. i got a friend to order the ax 300g and the fender pt 100 for me from this site. ive read reviews on other sites about the equipment so i know its good stuff. it says on here about gear being sent the next day if in stock. dont believe a word of it. its probably a lot quicker to order direct from the manufacturers, japan and america in my case. the gear gets 5 stars, the delivery service gets the lowest i can give, a big fat zero. never ever ever again. sorry dolphin, you stock control and delivery services suck in a big way.
Hie..
i\'ve always been a yamaha fan, but today as my keyboard suddenly decided to die on me, i shifted my attention to my newly acquired toy the Korg PA1XPRO.
at first i was a bit skeptical about it since i\'ve never used a Korg before, but 10 mins into the keybaord and i was in love, everything about the korg is so good, better than the yamaha, off-course the yamaha has its signature stuff, but then the style pattern on the korg is simply amazing the drum loops are damn realistic. Also that it surpasses the yamaha when it comes to asian instrument tones.
over on day 1 i am pretty mind blow with this keyboard, and its a very good but for all those in-between artists, rather than buying a tyros or a S900
I bought one of these after auditioning several other keyboards in the same price bracket and others that were significantly more expensive.

Its wonderfully weighted with great sounds all packaged up in a sturdy and very attractive body.

The bundled stand, pedals and music stand are all consistently high quality.

As both a digital piano for live and home use there is nothing that can match it pound for pound.
I think think this product is excellent it work really well with reason, logic along with pro-tools 8 it is simple to use light small and cosmetically stunning.
The pads have a good solid feel and as long as its on a solid surface you can really pound away without it moving at all. The X/Y pad has a good response and works as expected. You can customize how the pad works with various response curves, attack and release times inside the free midi editor librarian. This program allows you to further customize all the note values and scenes so that there are no conflicts with your current midi controller.
My main feature for this is ezdrummer which it works amazingly with and you can download the presets from the korg website.
Ok. The Kaossilator is, to look at, extremely cool and will get people curious, but my experience is mixed.

Good:
-Looks cool (come on its important!)
-good quality sounds (mainly in the electronica genre) some GREAT basses and leads
-can be interesting if you link it up to some other fx processor
-can actually be quite inspiring playing with the loop function

Bad:
-would like a MIDI out so i can use the touchpad to control external sounds
-no quantizing. im not blessed with perfect rhythm and although there are present drum loops, some kind of simple quantize function would be nice
-control layout isnt great for right handed people! (see on youtube people reaching round to press the loop record button you\'ll see what i mean)
-XY pad is quite sensitive: dont expect to be able to play a nice little melody on this thing. it has a 2/3 octave range (i think)so aiming for an exact note is tricky

So yes its a cool instrument (not a toy by any means), but Its no kaoss pad - so let it be itself and you can have a lot of fun!!
This little device is essential for all guitarists. Its portable accurate and affordable. The ability to tune the guitar to different semi tones is great means i can get to drop D or C# with ease. the hand is easy to see and the lights are a good indication to see in dark areas.
There is nothing this device does not have that you would need when tuning between songs in practice or at a gig.

This is a great little tuner. I get excellent results from it. It makes me wonder why Korg sell tuners six times more expensive than this one, yet they do nothing the GA 30 can\'t do.
Wow..have to say I am most impressed with this machine. Still getting used to it but it\'s very intuitive and easy to get started. I\'m just a little slow on the uptake sometimes with this but once I\'ve got it then it\'s easy to remember how to do it again ie. it\'s very clever ad i\'m stupid :-) Some fantastic pre-set sounds too, and i was particularly looking for something that could change sounds at the click of a foot-switch mid-tune and although i haven\'t figured it out yet i believe this will do it (and give up to 8 sequences), like i said i\'m slow...but impressed.
I first saw this at an Enter Shikari gig and later at a DJ set. I was facinated by this piece of kit and read up as much as I could and finally bought one. Worth every penny!

With 100 very different programs on it room for sampling and a beat matcher, it was a perfect edition to my idj2! Or just by it self (or with some decks), plug it into your ipod and stereo and you\'ve got hours of fun to perfect the KP2.

I take it to any party that i\'m at and it\'s usually the centre of attention and it\'s simple enough that anyone can have a good go on it because of its simple x-y pad and room to save the best effects, but with the practice you can be a pro with it!

The KP2, Great everywhere, as an addition to DJ equipment or without!
I\'ve had the Kontrol for a few months now and am finding it more and more enjoyable to use as I learn more about it. I use Pro Tools 8 and for a while I thought it would only be useful with the midi learn capabilities. However, now, having managed to find a template to fit, I can now control all aspects of Pro Tools (transport, virtual mixer, plug ins, etc) from the nano kontrol as a \'midi controller\' in Pro Tools, and this has opened up the possibilities no end. The \'scenes\' allow for controls to be mapped in a variety of different ways and the knobs and faders are a reasonable build (for the price!) The knobs are limited in that the have a set range, rather than being on an endless cycle (like most controllers around at the moment). Having said that, this is only a minor set back. Is also really useful with Ableton when DJing as you can make the various buttons to stop/start play back, activate plug ins, automate effects, etc.

At 50, you can\'t really as for me.

Spot on.
Horses for courses, if your a keyboard player it may not be for you , however its small light an does the trick , I use reason and it certainly beats messing around with a matrix to get a tune out , the build aint the strongest, but for the price I think its cool ,quite impressed with the mod and pitch buttons, realy simple to use, all in all it fills the gap for a midi keyboard thats small and light and fits in your laptop bag , work on the build korg and it would be tops , best thing Ive bought sinse reason .
Great Product Excellent Price, Small and easy to take around, the cosmetics are beautiful, and its got great functionality I have been using it with ableton live to trigger some drum loops and high hats and but the reason why a got it is because I wanted something portable to be used with RANE/SERATO SCRATCH LIVE to store cue points for the right and left decks and tempo cues that I store in scene 1 just perfect 12 pads available, just what I needed, in scene 2 I stored loops for the right and left deck 10 pads and stored two pads for navigation and loading and unloading and I use the pad to move in the library, tracks 12 pads required and 12 available, in scene 3 I got 9 auto loops for the right deck and in scene 4 got 9 auto loops for the left deck, much better than having to take a midi keyboard around, and is much cheaper than the m audio trigger finger.
I\'ve had my Nano keys for a day and I\'m already thinking of returning it.

I bought it with the intention of learning keys in the hour that falls between going to bed and going to sleep however the keys make quite a racket (just like typing) and this keeps the missus up and that is a no-no.

Admittedly it is one of the most compact and cost effective solutions to having a keyboard on the go but after 10 minutes of trying to do slides and/or anything fancy, one of the keys popped off and I\'m finding it very difficult to get it to go back on and stay on.

I think 5 stars is suitable as it\'s not all bad..

Pros
Small
light
cheap
well made chassis

cons
Badly made keys
noisy to play

If you\'re thinking of getting one don\'t buy it as your main keyboard as you\'ll get very annoyed very quickly.
I got this gadget for Xmas after LOTS of hinting. So I\'ve been anticipating it for months, wondering if it could really be as good as it promised. After all, it\'s not just small in size, it\'s small in cost too, so corners have to have been cut somewhere, right? It would turn out incompatible or something frustrating? Not a bit of it. I plugged it straight into my MacBook, downloaded the driver, booted GarageBand, created a drum track and tapped the pads EUR brilliant, velocity-sensitive drum patterns erupted - and it apparently controls samples and DJ stuff too! Class gizmo. My only quibble is that my Pad has a rattle from a stray bit of plastic or something in the casing, which just nudges the owner experience just off perfect (no 10th star), which means I\'ll have to go swap to get that perfection EUR who said anal?

 User: Jim
With limited experience on a quality arranger, I was pleasantly surprised when my Korg Pa2x Pro arrived yesterday morning. I owned a Yamaha DGX-505 for the past three years and had gone about as far as I could go with it. The 76 keys experience was new for me, as I have played acoustic piano for over 55 years (I miss that low \"C\" when chording with my left hand, but other than that, I\'m OK). I struggled with the manual and the video disk on Day 1, as I could not get style play and the right hand keyboard to sound together, At 2 o\'clock this morning, I realized by reading the manual that there was a drawbar to choose a balance between style accompaniment and the right hand keyboard (a tip in the instructions would have saved me a day of frustration). On day 2 of ownership I am discovering many great features:
1. I love the acoustic piano feel of the keypad (white and black keys are large enough and the semiweighted action is OK)
2. Piano, guitar, and organ sounds are about as authentic as they can be for an electronic instrument IMHO. I don\'t have high expectations for strings, brass and woodwinds from an electronic instrument, therefore I was not disappointed.
3. The fills and variations are interesting and relatively easy for a new player to access.
4. I have not tried the voice processor, but am looking forward to plugging in a mic and adding harmony to my voice, doing some recording of my voice and the Korg.
5. Interestingly enough, with all the variations readily available, I feel that I can match the quality of the \"demo\" songs on the second day, something I never mastered with my Yamaha.
6. The more I play my Korg, the more certain I become that I made the right choice.
7. My only recommendation is to make the manual a bit simpler for new owners (perhaps an easier quick-start guide might be helpful).
This Synth is simply amazing considering its amazing cheapness!!!!

It Gives you full Control over everything, the arpegiator is absolutely stunning and fully editable, the synth itself looks so vintage, it has a lovely wood effect finish on the sides!!
It has Midi In and out and the vocoder is high quality!

A superb production, worthy to be used by the likes of Gary Numan, Duran Duran, Japan etc

I would Reccomend this for begginers and Synth Wizards/Pro.

It is early days for me with this machine, but so far it has behaved flawlessly.

Recording eight tracks of audio simultaneously during a band rehearsal was pretty straightforward even after a fairly brief canter through the manual. The menu system sometimes feels a little fiddly (hence 9 out of 10), but getting used to the quirks didn\'t take too long at all.

But uploading the audio onto the Mac to edit and mix in Logic Express was just a sheer pleasure. Plug in a USB cable, copy the directory across, drag and drop into Logic Express and you are ready to start mixing -- eight tracks of audio right there, waiting to be edited.

Very nice feature set, copious hard drive, pretty straightforward and is smart enough to not try to replicate the feature set of DAW software and thereby make the machine way too complicated. I like this a lot.
I have to give 10 stars to this product as it works perfectly and there is no bad news at all. In fact, I bought it to use as a contact mike for my mandoline where it works brilliantly (an acoustic bass pro friend also borrowed it with equal results!) So forget those painfully expensive contact mikes on the market, the Korg gives great results and guess what? It works perfectly as a tuner :-)
I've used a few tuners in the past, ranging from cheap sub 10 ones, to rack mounted kit.

I was looking at a korg DT10, but saw this for a few quid more.

It's small, but with a large display - its about the same length as a standard FX pedal, but a bit slimmer. The LEDs are nice and bright, and also have varying levels of brightness to give an even clearer level of accuracy when tuning up.

Of the 4 tuning modes, the first 2 are the most useful, strobing mode being my preferred method, the second 2 modes are really just different ways of showing the first two modes.

The ability to daisy-chain power is useful if you run a few pedals (and if you are building a pedal board) but you don't get the leads to do this with the pedal; you can buy them from places like Maplins though for a few quid.

Build quality is the usual Korg metal box, designed to be stamped on, so I expect this to stand up to regular gigging for some time to come.
Very happy with this tuner at the price. I'm using it to tune a harpsichord; I have a Korg TM40 (also very nice, with handy metronome) but that doesn't do historic temperaments. The OT120 does, and has a nice chunky feel to it, the needle is easier to read than the LCD pseudo-needle on the cheaper model. It also has a full range of reference pitches rather than just one octave. Wish the back support bracket was more adjustable, but that's hardly serious!
I wanted an effects box to enhance the acoustic sound of the Fishman fitted by Gibson in my J200. This is a fantastic little box which has been seriously underpriced for what it can do. It is simple and compact with potential that I am still realizing.
It has pre-sets which you can edit but I haven't needed to. I hate 'stuff' as a rule but this was a cheap gamble that is a fantastic success.

 REVIEW OF KORG ELECTRIBE EMX-1

USE/EASE OF USE

The presets sound good for the genres they are emulating, but useless for the genres of music I produce. They show off what the Electribe can do and how much can go on at once. Mainly, the presets were made and put on the Electribe to get it sold for the "wow" factor. I did not buy it because of the presets, I bought it because of the weird, noisy, loud stuff it could do once I started tweaking it.
Editing patches is pretty easy and straightforward. For the more advanced stuff such as step sequencing and motion sequencing and what not, a lot of buttons and knobs have to be used and a lot of submenus have to be accessed and that takes a bit of practice to get the hang of. But, most of the commonly used parameters are easy to access and straightforward. Making synth parts and modulating them is very easy, as well as manipulating effects and so forth.
The manual covers everything you need to know, right down to advanced MIDI programming and controlling. The manual is as straightforward as the unit itself.

FEATURES

The Electribe's synth parts are monophonic. Chords are possible with certain synth oscillator algorithms, but for the most part, you only get one voice per synth part. If you really felt like it, you could use as many of the synth parts as you wanted to create polyphonic sequences, but for each note of polyphony you'd want to use you'd need to use up a synth part, and you only have five. Polyphony is limited, so don't expect to pull off a bunch of lush pads.
The Electribe has three effects engines you can run simultaneously - independently or in series. In the words of the Electribe, you can "chain," or combine, multiple effects together. The only thing wrong with this is once you chain 2 or 3 effects together, it stays that way. For instance, if you have effect 1 as reverb, effect 2 as flange, and effect 3 as delay, and you've chained effects 1 and 2 together so that reverb and flange are running in tandem, that's the way it is. You can't run a drum part through flange and reverb and then run another drum part through just reverb (if flange and reverb are chained), unless you can give up delay as effect 3 and replace it with reverb. Also, you cannot have more than three effects running at a time - so whatever three effects you select for an entire pattern are the ones you are stuck with, this goes for both synth and drum parts. If you want, you could run an entire pattern through one or more effects by routing (sending) the effect to each part individually. Effect chaining is very cool, but unfortunately it limits the overall performance if you tend to rely on a ton of effects. Remember, you have 9 drum parts and 5 synth parts - 3 effects is nowhere near enough to cover this much terrain in electronic music.
However, there are plenty of wacky effects that make up for this shortcoming. Aside from the common effects like reverb, delay, distortion, chorus/ flange, and phaser, you have crazy stuff like grain shifter (takes a short sample and repeats it until another sample is taken), ring modulation (for anything, you can set the second frequency), talking mod (makes whatever you run it through sound like it's talking, basically a vocoder of sorts), decimator (messes with the sample frequency and sample depth), pitch shifter, and even high pass and low pass fitlers (with resonance) you can route to your drum phrases (or your synths if you want). The effects can do some crazy stuff, too bad they are few and far between. In short, there are some good effects that are easy to use, but the effects portion is limited in my opinion.
No expansion capablilities that I know of, but it can accept Smart Media cards for data storage. As for memory, it has 256 slots for patterns, and 64 slots for songs (string patterns together and set how long the patterns play).
As far as MIDI goes, it can sync up to MIDI clocks, the synth parts can be controlled by a MIDI controller, and you can MIDI dump all the data back and forth from a computer with a MIDI interface. I'm not too saavy with MIDI but I'm sure it's quite compatible.
Does it have an onboard sequencer? If it didn't, it would really suck. The Electribe IS a sequencer for drums and synths simultaneously. You can program everything and arrange it step by step. It's also pretty cool that you can run separate modulations to each synth part.

SOUNDS

Velocity and aftertouch? What are those? (Sarcasm, of course) As far as I am aware of, you can't program velocity. You can program "accent" for synth and drum parts, which is similar to velocity in the regard of controlling volume step by step, but if controlling the synth parts from a MIDI controller, I don't know if the synth programs will respond or not. I seriously doubt there is any aftertouch whatsoever.
This is an electronic instrument. Don't expect anything to sound like a real brass ensemble or string quartet or choir. Maybe a cheezy version of it due to the PCM waves, but pulse width modulation on the Electribe does not sound nearly as good as other synths I've used. This machine is intended for making electronic music, and it does this very well. If you want realistic sounds with a sequencer, get a workstation.
The only electronic genre this machine lacks in sounds for is industrial, which is what I produce. Granted, by running the drums through a lot of distortion, you can attain a power noise/ Terror EBM sounding drumbeat, but most of the uneffected (or effected) drum sounds aren't as punchy and gritty as I'd like them to be. If you are into techno, trance, electro, or anything else that isn't as harsh as industrial, the Electribe is great for those genres. But for people wanting to make REAL industrial (and not synthpop industrial-wannabe crap), the Electribe will take a lot of tweaking. I use VPM and Cross Modulation a lot to create metallic, staticy, overtone rich, FM-like sounds. Also, Waveshaper (WS) works wonders for creating incredibly harsh sounds.
I have to give this category a 7 because of lack of velocity/ aftertouch programmibility, lack of sound programmibility (the MicroKorg can do a lot more synth-wise), and lack of harsh, pounding drums. But, the rest of the capabilities really make this a unique machine.

RELIABILITY

The appegiator slider kinda bothers me since the display model at the store was missing the plastic piece that goes on top of the metal stub. I would definitely carry this around in a case that has lots of padding and I would take into consideration that the knobs are plastic and can break off, and they are about 1/2" to 3/4" tall. But, the unit itself is made from metal and is very, very durable. I wouldn't drop it since it has vaccuum tubes (and the vaccuum tubes produce such a nice overdrive), and vaccuum tubes tend to be very fragile. Other than that, I'm pretty sure I can depend on it because I've never had a problem with Korg before. I would gig without a backup, but I would keep a close eye on it to make sure it didn't break or get stolen at a gig.

OVERALL RATING

If it were lost or stolen or broken, I might buy a new one. It depends on if they have a new version by the time this might happen, or if the used price of this unit drops. I have grown fond of what the Electribe can do in terms of sequencing and plan on using it live when I get the chance.
I have been making electronic music for over a year now and have been making music in general for over two years. I own mostly Korg gear: a microKorg, X50, and an 01/W. I also own a Xiosynth that I'm having problems with and I have to ship it back to the manufacturer and get it replaced (one of the keys is not responsive).
I love the fact that more than one thing can go on at once with this unit. I am used to synthesizers that produce one sound at a time and recording that sound then recording another and layering them. It is nice to be able to program everything together and hear it all at once for a change (in real-time, too), it definitely helps creating music. However, I hate the fact that the synth section is slightly limited compared to other virtual analogs. For instance, I can ring modulate two oscillators, I can sync two oscillators, I can cross modulate two oscillators, just like on the MicroKorg - but I can't run them in unison unless I switch the knob over to unison. You can run oscillators in unison, yes, but each type of modulation that would normally be able to be run in tandem on a VA are separate and isolated from each other, they are considered different oscillator algorithms. This makes it difficult to get thick sounds that sound different than JUST unison saw or unison square waves. One thing I wish it had was more effect routings, 5 might be less limiting than 3. I tend to rely on my MicroKorg for my virtual analog sounds and leave only a handful of synth sounds to the Electribe.
I compared it to some products, but nothing in the category of this. Everything else I looked at was a VA synth and I wanted to go for something that could do a bit more than just make one sound at a time. It would also be nice if it was able to program in other time signatures besides 4/4.
It definitely helps me make music, despite a handful of drawbacks. Maybe the "EMX-2" (if it's going to be made) will solve some of these kinks. I'm glad I bought it.
First of all I'd like to comment on the style of this synthesizer. It's a very modern and up-to-date synthesizer with a retro look, taking you back to the 80's where synths were worshipped like Gods.

This synth is very powerful, don't let the size put you off, it has 128 analogue sounds pre-programmed into it for you to have fun with.

Editing the sound is easy. You don't have to scroll through endless menus just to alter the portamento slightly, it's all done with the flick of a knob to choose the effect, then the flick of another to change it.

Then there's the vocoder. This is where I was really impressed. Not only does it have 16 preset sounds, but they are editable like the synth sounds, and you get a free mic too. This is value for money, how many other synth vocoders have you seen at this price? Not many.

Also, you can switch between vocoder and synth with the simple turn of a control knob, which also organises the synth sounds into categories for ease of searching for the ones you need.

All sounds can also be changed from synth to vocoder and vice versa, so if you had a really cool synth sound, and you want to use it with the vocoder, just switch it over with a swivel of the knob. Simple!

With the simple click of a button, you can capture the formants of your voice and play them with the keyboard.

This is a synthesizer with countless effects and a fantastic value vocoder that can be changed and manipulated like a ball of clay.

If you can, get the limited edition with reverse colour keys, apparently it will be worth a lot in the future.

I recommend this to beginners and experts alike, so even though it's affordable, it doesn't mean it can't be used by proffesionals.

After all, successful bands such as the Hoosiers and Hot Chip use this machine to great effect!

You can too!

It's simple, sweet and sexy, and you can be pumping out huge fat analogue sounds with the click of a "buy now" button!!!
This by no means a proper musical instrument, but it isnEURt a toy either. I guess the best way to describe it is - itEURs about a much fun as you can have with your clothes on. Give it to a friend to have a go and you wonEURt get it back. Check out the numerous videos on YouTube to get a good idea of what it can do. Within about five minutes of turning the thing on you can get results that sound, well, truly professional - It feels like cheating when itEURs that easy. ItEURs a new age stylophone, itEURs just fun. Go on buy one, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on............
The Preset sounds are showing off quite a bit of the flexibility this rather limited "va" & PCM -based DSP-engine can deliver.. Drum & bass, 4/4 techno, freaky electronica & stuff that belongs to the "cheesy but cool"-section are part of the preset patterns, which fill up almost all of the memory (IIRC at least 3/4 of the memory-patches are pre-loaded)... general these are LOUD, dancy, shiny, and max. about 1/3 is more delicate, detailed & nicely made.

- Editing patches:
Oh well.. it's quite nice, and delivers almost all advantages that you are most likely used from your copy of Rebirth-338, or the originals, with a few minor differencies.

VERY nice, is the thing that most likely pops into your eyes as being very flashy, it's the "parts" section on the right side, it's a group of dedicated buttons that allows you direct selection of each "instrument", and also *displays* the activity of each "instrument" during playback.

This is especially of good use when you are examining some of the preset patches, and want to modify one of the sounds, since the 4 VA parts can be whatever you program'em too - and there would be almost no other way to tell which part is generating the desired/disturbing sound.

The structure is definitely just simple as on any x0x-based machine:

You've got the SONG, which contains the pattern-numbers to be played & tempo-information (& some)

The PATTERN, which consists, despite of individual tempo-information (&some) of the

PARTS which hold
a) the settings for each sound (the "patches" if you want so)
b) the "motion-sequences" (basically a free-draft, single-shot LFO form)
c) the delay-effect-settings (tempo-oriented/motion-sequence/off, depth & time)

This all gets accompanied by a hand full of editing functions, which can be accessed via the shift button & the alternate functions, dedicated to some of the step-buttons

MAJOR FLAW:

-> There is NO option that I am aware of (with my firmware-version) which would allow the deletion/clearing of a WHOLE pattern at once...

-- So when you are just about to clear up a perviously programmed pattern-preset, in order to carefully construct your idea starting off with silence...

You will have to select
a) EACH PART's PATTERN,
b) select the CLEAR PART function utilizing the SHIFT-key & the STEP 11
c) then you have to "ok"/verify the operation by pressing the CLEAR-PART button(STEP 11) *again*...

and do this happily for each of the parts, which happen to be

4x VA
1x closed hi-hat
1x open hi-hat
1x hand-clap
1x "crash"-cymbal
and
1x accent

this totals 9 times for this part (points a,b,c) of the procedure..

but it isn't over yet..

THEN you have to

d)
de-select the cross-modulation & ring-modulation functions

to finally
e) re-adjust the whole sound-settings for each parts you want to use..

Now... this could be ALL solved with a click of a button if Korg would've implemented a "clear/initialize pattern"-function for the whole pattern...

The way I used to improve that is simply
- Holding down the SHIFT button all the time during the procedure, and the quickly alternating with the other hand between each part & the CLEAR PART function, similar way like in old movies when people jammed& pulled out a knife between their fingers in a speedy manner :-)

ANNOYING THING #2:

Each time you press one of the PART-buttons the respective sound gets triggered..

I have to say that this little machine is absolutely brilliant! User friendly, easily understandable, and gives you an unbelievable sound quality. When all is said and done, that's what you want. Using Smartmedia cards, I've found that you can get quite enough time on even a 32mb card. I've purchased 7 cards from ebay in order to keep up with recording and keeping stuff. Purchased an Audio Technica condenser stereo mic to go with it (only a budget one, but the sound is marvellous - Audio-Technica ATR25 - 30 at the local music shop). I found that it's really good for acoustic guitar, vocal, and piano, with some superb mixing parameters; send left, send right, reverb, hall, room, spring, compression, limiter etc. I've got to say I haven't once been disappointed with the Korg, and when you consider that as a musician I've spent time in 8 track, 16 track, 24 track, recorded to computer in studios and played live over many years - then that's some going on this little beauty's part. And transferring to PC is really easy, they send as MP2, just plug in a standard USB cable (the one's you use to plug a printer in - so that's no problem then). Just download CoolMP3 converter, and change them to WAV (for CD quality, then to MP3 - here you can upload to Myspace etc. Obviously when they go to MP3 they get a little compressed, but hey that's a small price to pay to get your music out there! To hear a couple of numbers recorded on one of these go check out:

There's 3 songs on there recorded on one of these little machines!!!

Cheers.
I bought this microphone about a month ago in order to use it as an external mic from my camera: Sony PD150. It works beautifully with crisp dialogue up to about 30 feet away. Its 2 settings (normal and tele) allow you full control whether you are recording in a studio or on location.
Very happy.
Excellent value for money. Shame it isn't XLR as you get a more consistent sound that way but altogether SUPERB!

Teaching three kids to play guitar is a bit of a nightmare when the ages range from 4 years old to 15 years old, so I decided to try and make things simpler by getting them to tune up together.
A trip to the Huddersfield branch of Dolphin seemed in order.
This little gizmo is a godsend, no more fuzzy pitch-pipes, tuning-forks, or noisy drummers to contend with, I just plugged in the Guitar, and bingo, accurate tuning to concert pitch, and the ability to move pitch by up to five semitones.
The LEDs make tuning a doddle, but can lead one to become obsessive about minute variations of pitch.
I must admit that I was a tad cynical about the accoustic tuning at first, but was soon wowed by the simplicity, as long as I could find a quiet place to use it.
Down side was that the youngest wanted to learn how to tune the guitar rather than play it, so if Korg want to develop a guitar tuition module.......

Firstly, excellent service from Dolphin Music in forwarding the item without delay. As an official add-on from Korg it plugs into the PA800 keyboard and requires no extra interface. The switches can be chosen for a huge variety of functions that Korg have made available, removing the need to move your hands from the keys!. I have found that a footswitch is much more convenient to switch the "Ensemble" function on/off for example as you you can alternate the facility in the middle of a bar. Other obvious uses are drum breaks. Also I have used the switches to switch parts of a Style on/off as I play which can have a dramatic effect to your music. It also enables me to use the other jack sockets for the piano damper and volume expression pedal for one or more of the Right Hand parts.
The Korg M3-m module is well suited to creating music with or without a computer due to it's exceptional internal sequencer. Most of the time, a computer is only needed when doing the final mixdown and nowadays you may not even need one for that! The inclusion of the KARMA engine when combined with the OASYS/Triton sounds would be enough to make any budding musician seriously consider which possesions they really need when they could have one of these. For audiophiles, it is superb to say the least. The expansive range of connectors (such as USB2, Firewire, 5-pin MIDI as well as true stereo sampling and multiple analog and digital outs) allow you to route your sounds and data virtually any way you want and to pretty much any type of source imaginable!
The only very small little thing that I found to dissuade me from giving this a perfect ten was that the two USB-A ports were slightly too close together to permit connecting my thicker memory sticks at the same time. Once I find a USB extension cable, you can be assured that this will be worth a resplendent and well-earned 10.
This keyboard is scary, beautiful, and will takes ages to fully exploit. At first you really wonder if such complete sounding music can all come from one workstation - but working through the manual reveals how it is possible (that very manual is the only minor gripe - but then again they have tons of possibilities to explain!). Particularly awesome are the combining of 8 different effects on your sequences, and the Karma innovation, as well as the sampling options. The sounds and sound quality are great - and i beleive there isn't enough music out there, that is putting these wonderful machines thru their paces (just check out the Karma demonstrations on their website etc). I am dribbling over the expansion cards which are going to take things up another level. If someone can start including instructional dvds with gear like this - then it would get an 11 out of 10. OH! - and you need a memory stick (as there is no hard drive). It still wont detract from the score!
Expensive but like a certain red keyboard that is doing very well on this site (thanks for that too!) - it is probably worth more! In terms of where it could inspire you to take your music - or at the very least - the presentation of your sound - it is starting a new chapter in electronic instrument history.
I have had this for nearly a month - and it is NEVER getting sold!!

The sounds you can create with the R3 are limitless. It will take many many hours to get to the heart(s) of this instrument. That is a lot of the cool factor of a/any synthesizer after all.

Only some of the presets are really usable to me personally.

The full sized keys (yes full sized) do not have much resistance at all but that is okay.

The overall sound of the R3 is quite different from the microKorg, brighter it seems, more shimmering and bright.

The R3 is a beautiful instrument to look at though it is very light and does not feel all that sturdy. Not much metal on this instrument except from it's sounds. A hard case is a must for gigging or travel.

I would like to have seen a logical lock on the Bank Select Dial as it is very easy to bump this large dial and switch programs by mistake, especially during a performance.

The connections on the R3 are ample.

The vocoder is not my cup of tea but may use it at some point.

I am not a huge synthman and this was a pretty big investment for me. The R3 is a monster Korg synthesizer in a small footprint.
I got the padKONTROL from dolphin music about a week ago, after much debate on wether I should buy one. I finally caved in.

First impressions were excellent, out of the box it looks and feels great. The pads can be really sensitive if you want them to be, and they feel good to tap.

The main drawback, albeit minor was the bumoy setup. All of the bundled software installed pretty smoothly, but as I regretably run windows, the driver was a bit of a pain. When you install the driver from the CD, you don\'t actually install the driver, it installs a program that intalls the driver. This took me a while to work out why the padKONTROL didn\'t seem to work.

Something important to note is that if you want to use the padKONTROL to send MIDI messagees to trigger samples and such in ableton, then you must go into MIDI preferences select padKONTROL port A and B and turn remote on. It took me a few painful hours to work out.

Also, the editor/librarian needs to have the MIDI in and out set correctly to transmit scenes, it would be easier to have this automatically happen.

Despite these first few teething problems, once everything is set up correctly, it is for me now an essential bit of equipment. Being able to control ableton from the padKONTROL is very useful and has expanded my creativity. I\'ve found that the x-y pad works particularly well as a filter controller as the feel is very intuitive. As well as this, editing scenes is very easy, both on the software and on the padKONTROL itself.

It really has expanded my creativity, I love the way you can drum a beat and trigger samples on the same scene.

If your like me and already have the full version of ableton installed then this is a very useful tool, however, the bundled ableton live lite 6 software is a bit bit lighter then I expected, more of a demo really.

Overall this has been a great purchase that I do not regret, looking forward to using this in some up and coming gigs with my band, it\'s enabled us to be able to sample in a quick and simple manner.
Having been a fan of synths since my first Juno 6 , I wanted a keyboard which could produce lush pads , multi layered sound scapes and fun grooves to get the creative juices flowing. This synth does it all and more. Only negative is you only have a limited number of keys to do it with 2 Octaves to be precise... Just run a 61 plus key controller in and you're up and running. It would take pages to say what its capable of but all the sounds you're likely to need are present and correct plus an option to hear a brief demo of the patch in audition mode ( very nice idea Korg ). The grooves are very tuneful, some lean towards Acid / Heavy drum and bass and many are just great to drift off to and give you ideas for future hits .. maybe ..

It comes in a groovy hard case , is easy to set up and use , great for bands who need a lttle brass or organ to spice up numbers but have no space for lots of different full size keyboards .. and keyboard players :)

All round, an inspirational piece of kit.
Service from Dolphin was top notch, I live in South East got the DT7 next day. The DT7's main feature is that it is setup to tune the offsets for the Buzz Feiten system; open strings and 12th fret intonation. If your guitar is Feitenized then you do need one of these; I have found that my Washburn WI66PRO only really tunes properly using this device. But for other guitars I prefer Yamaha YT-150, because it has manual note select and LCD needle display plus lights, whereas DT7 has just lights.
I use the K25 as an input device for sequencing MIDI. Its small size means that, together with a laptop, I can have a very portable but very functional MIDI studio setup.

The controls are very useful. The pitch and modulation wheels are very useful, especially when playing software synths. The knobs and buttons can be assigned to different tasks, thereby reducing the amount you need to reach for the mouse. The joystick can adopt different functions too, such as controlling the vectoring in Korg's Wavestation. It can function as a mouse too, but is fairly useless in this respect.

If you wish to play full piano-type parts in real time, the 2 octaves available won't really be of any use - you'll need a bigger keyboard for this. But I can't play piano anyway, so that's not a concern. It's extremely useful for inputting drums, melodies, bass, synths, and those types of things.

The Korg M1Le software synth that is included was rather a dissappointment - there are not many sound programmes available, and only 1 instance of the M1Le can be used at a time as a VST plugin - almost no use at all. I had to purchase the Korg Legacy Collection - DIGITAL ADDITION to obtain the full M1, and also the Wavestation and a plugin effects suite. This is actually available at a reduced price if you already own the M1Le, which comes with the K25.

Demos of other software are included, such as Reason 3. I found the demos a little annoying, as they only showed me what I HADN'T got - some more functional software synths would have been of more interest to me, like a less restriced M1Le!

All in all, the K25 is a very functional, very portable MIDI controller keyboard. Ask yourself if you really need a big keyboard - if you don't, then get the K25.
The Triton 88 Extreme is fantastic at the core of a home studio -- or any studio, for that matter. Sure, any good studio will include soft-synths like Reason's, but writing music and tweaking amazing new sounds requires good hardware with dials to twist, attenuators to slide, and an amazing touch screen with thousands of parameters. And, of course, it's great to take on the road and jam with your band. (No self-respecting player should limit themselves to a studio, of course.) Great keyboard.
I use this Korg since the start of 2006, i did EVERYTHING i wanted with it, every sound, every effect i needed! Its a strong piece, you can travel a lot and use it with no fear about a crush or brake during a show or travelling... The amp effects are wonderful, and the controller pedal give you a really big possibility programing the sounds. I just have some problems when i have to change the programs there are far one from the other, but ill learn it better, thats why i gave 9 in 10 to the AX3000G. I can resume it: WONDERFUL, POWERFUL. You can trust on it with no doubt.
Just purchased this controller to work with the Reason 3.0 Demo.

And even though I am new to music production I really think that this controller is making it a lot simpler for me.

Its totally plug and play on Mac OSX 10.4.8 and works with Reason like a dream as there is already a built in scene.

But the best part is the 9 part LCD display that feeds back exactly what rack unit you are using, the parameter settings, its just so nice to have this feedback that you don't really get on controllers of this price.

Its early days yet and I've barely scratched the surface of its abilities, even now I know I made an excellent choice and is so well built I will be with me for a long time yet.

The new offering from the Toneworks team is the Pandora PX4D. It is jam packed full of effects, amp models, cabinet models, backing tracks to jam with, and even a phrase recorder to help learn those crazy mind breaking riffs that you never thought possible to learn. All of this and more in one small box that runs on betteries.

Sound great, but is it really?

Yes is the simple answer... There are a few drawbacks, like the phrase recorder's low quality when riffs are slowed down, but hey, you're here to learn not to become an audiophile. Also, when the battery power is low, the quality of the sounds dips a bit, so it's a good job they put a power socket on it! I can usually get about 8-9 hours out of a set of AAA batteries. Not too bad really.

The sound quality is simply amazing. I remember the original Pandora. The sounds were very digital, and there wasn't much in the way of editing the patches. The PX4d, however has more settings and bits 'n' bobs to tweak than ever! (I don't know the stats on how many effects etc, but there's enough to keep you going!)

Everything about the machine has been made for the musician on the go. The tuner is accurate, the button layout is very logical, and the size, although much bigger than the original version, is still compact.

For live, or rehersals, there is a handy guitar strap clip, so you can wear the machine without any problems, and changing patches will take practice, but in the end, you won't really miss the old stomp boxes. Not for the price, anyway.

The sounds are perfect for just about any style of music. From distortion to Chorus, to Synths, it' all in there. With the adition of the amp and cabinet models, almost any modern guitar sound can be acheived.

I have used various pedals in my time, from the Zoom 1010 to Korgs Ax1000 pedals, and I would honestly say that this has been the best investment I've made. If I were to record an album tomorrow, I'd have no fears about turning up with this as my main effects unit!

One other thing that I find amazing about this machine is the fact there's a switch for humbuckers/single coil, so it can be taylored to the guitar you are using.

The preset sounds are in some cases a bit dull, but there are a fair few gems. About an hour or two of tweaking, and this machine is good to go!

Overall, if you're on a budget, but want variation in sound, then this is the machine. It's probably the best personal jamming tool around, and with the addition of a real amplifier, the sounds still hold their own.
First the positives. The actual sounds on this keyboard are brilliant and comprehensive. You will not be dissappointed in them.
It's laid out in the normal Korg way with Program sounds, Combi sounds and Multis. The keyboard also has twin arpeggiators. There are plenty of very useable sounds straight out of the box with no tweaking.
I bought this keyboard primarily for live work, and in this department it will be A1.
The things that could be improved.
1. Build quality is little better than a Casio home keyboard. All plastic (apart from the handles) and doesn't feel at all robust. It'll be interesting to see how it stands up to touring.
2. The manual is the usual incomprehensible Korg. Great detail about things you will never want to do, but no detail at all about stuff you will want to do on a daily basis.
3. The editing software. This is in 2 parts. The standalone editor functions fine, and is easy to use. It is essential as the display window on the keyboard is tiny, and in edit mode it is almost impossible to read all the parameters.
The VST software is buggy, and continually causes VST to crash. We need an urgent update!
To sum up:
This keyboard is exceptional value at around 500. You get Triton sounds at a much cheaper price, and if you already use an external sequencer such as Cubase, you don't need the onboard sequencer on the Triton. There are flaws in the package that I have detailed above, but don't let them put you off.
I purchased a Korg AX3000G from Dolphin Music a few days ago. First of all I'd like to say thanks to Dolphin Music for such a great service. On to the AX3000G...

When I first started to use it I got lost by all the buttons, pedals, knobs... its a bit confussing to start off with... but after a quick flick through the manual (not all of it though.. its a big manual) I began to find my way around. There is a huge variety of preset sounds... from Shred distortion to the sound of a sitar. The presets are great, some great sounds to play around with.. but if you're looking to find something that really makes it sound like you then there's no problem... just adjust the pre fx, drive/amp, modulation, delay or reverb to come up with a perfect sound of your own. The AX3000G is extremely versitile, you can alter pretty much everything. I know the more I play it the more I will discover.. the posibilities are endless. Its a sturdy build, perfect for live performances. I would recomend the Korg AX3000G any day. I love it. A great buy, maybe not the cheapest multi-effects around but you get your money's worth and it comes out in the quality. 10/10
I've been hooked on Roland Fantoms since the beginning. It wasn't until I heard the X50 that made me a Korg fan. This machine is very nice. Speciafically the guitars and acoustic instruments. You can't find a better deal for the price. I've never like the triton but the simplicity of this machine makes it a perfect addition to any studio. I know the world will soon see the difference in this machine. Thanks for making me a believer Korg.
After buying the Korg Microkontrol from Dolphin Music, receiving it and getting it out of the box, I was very impressed by the appearance of the keyboard. Brushed alluminium and a very rugged feel make this keyboard seem a winner. However, the keys take a little getting used to as they are rather small. Not a problem any more for me. I use this with Reason 3.0 and in "Native Mode" the Mircokontrol comes into its own, with track names automatically being sent to the beautiful LCD displays. I found this particulalry useful as it meant I knew what each encoder or slider was going to affect before moving it. The 16 trigger pads work well but need some breaking in. They are more suited to triggering samples in programs such as Live as opposed to playing drum patterns on, as they are only velocity sensitive and not pressure sensitive. However, for the price of the keyboard what would you expect. You get much more than you pay for with the Microkontrol. More assignable controllers than you would ever really need for small time music production, and a rugged portable keyboard.

The only reason I gave this an 8 instead of a 9 or 10, would have to be the feel of the encoders and sliders. They feel cheap and sometimes wobble, however, if you treat them with respect and use them gently, they should last long enough.
I've owned my SP200 for about two years. For pianos
in this price range you will not find better. The tone is exellent and being able to adjust the feel
is a real plus. The range of features are what you would expect to get on much more expensive models.
I gig with this piano on a regular basis and it has benn very reliable and not too heavy to tranport. As well as the piano sounds it has agreat organ sample and because it is touch sensative you can get a great swell effect by pressing the keys harder especially with the light setting on the keyboard. I also own two other digital pianos but this one takes pride of place as a great all rounder.
This is the best metronome for lazy bastards with limited attention spans.

I am so f*ing lazy that I couldn't be arsed to push the buttons on my old metronome -- you know, I'd have to scroll through a menu and all that and by that time I'd decided what tempo and what click I wanted I was ready to do something else other than practice my guitar playing.

But the KDM-1 has a big wheel that you can turn. No waiting. No scrolling. No, "Ummm, what type of click should I have?" There is only one click! It's totally brilliant for lazy bastards like me.... and maybe you too
I don't want to review this thing. If I could - I'd wanna sell it to you, I'd wanna even give you the cash for it if I could. Now I've heard some good things about this piece of kit. Download the demo track on Korg's own website to see what I mean. There's amateur, semi-pro and there's pro. There's nothing semi about its size, its shape, its sturdy metal structure, it's lcd screen, it's big 96khz 24bit sound, its valve style compressors, its plethora of effects, which i've heard being compared to pro tools reverb plug-ins. What can I say. I've used this to produce dance music with it's excellent wave editing facilities, it's quick and easy ability to transfer songs to and from PC via the USB interface. I love this thing. Plug a pair of monitors into this, I use the Roland DS8 set - and the sound is superb. With excellent parametric eq, as well as studio quality fx, and 16 tracks plus the ability to submix as well, you just can not go wrong. Do yourself a big favour and get one. It's easy to set up and use, and has excellent AD/DA converters including digital inputs so the sound quality can be second to none. Midi wise, this unit can be midi'd up to another ADAT machine. I use the Fostex D90 to carry a submix and synch it up to this baby. I'm in love with this thing. It looks sexy, it sounds sexy, why pay thousands and thousands when you can create a track that plays just as clear, as sonically prestine as the tracks you hear on the radio.

On the downside, I'd rather it have a facility to plug in a screen to see visually more clearly whats going on. But the LCD pages that the machine does offer on its touch screen panel are very clear, useful and detailed - get one and see for yourself.
As from the age of fourteen I have been extremely interested in ELECTRONIC Music and I started to look around the web for the right synths for me, and came accross Dolphin Music. I searched intill I found the Korg Electribe EMX-1.
I listend to their Demos on Korgs Website and soon realised that is what I wanted so I bought it. And what an amazing machine it is! For the price is fair, it has Smartmedia card storage and a stereo pair of Russion made 12AX7 valves.
It even has a nice colour to it!
I'll say no more, buy and see for yourself!

I have used this piano playing semi-pro for the last two years. In this time I've tried many pianos in this price range and have not found one to beat it yet. The sounds are as good as anything around with the werlitzer electric piano sound the best I've yet heard. The action feel can be set up to give a graet response and the range of fine tuning beats anything currently around for the price. It's stood moving around from gig to gig well and is just light enough for one person to carry without it suffering from build quality. all in all a winnwr in my book.
This is a seriously cool little piece of kit. The hundreds of different combinations of effects available is unrivalled in any other piece of equipment I have ever used. The rythm and bass program is great for practicing soloing over, and for writing those little licks for your next song.
DO NOT however, buy this for an onstage tool if you need to change effects quickly. I play in a band in which I sing as well, and thus the pandora would be impossible to use to quickly switch to another effect for a solo. Get a stomp box or foot switch to either use in parallel with the pandora, or by itself.
The Phrase trainer is what lets the Pandora down. Recording in your own little rhythm parts to solo over works great. But, try and record an actual song with drums in, and the trainer falls apart: the sound is dicey at best, and then when you slow the phrase down, the quality only gets worse. This said, it IS possible to practice along to it, as you can hear the attack of each note, but that is about it.
In all other aspects the Pandora PX4D is fantastic, scoring an 8 out of 10 from me.
Well, what a fab little synth! This keyboard is packed with some truly stunning sounds. Layer Piano (brings back memories of M1 days...), Full Pipes (absolutely huge sounding....) being 2 of my faves.

It gets rather fiddly to programme, but can be easily mastered with a little patience, and is remarkably versatile for an instrument of this price.

The action is less than wonderful for piano work, it is an unweighted Fatar. For general synth work it is fine.

The build quality as a whole is excellent. My X5D has been bashed around somewhat and has hardly shown it. The only dammage caused was to a key release, causing the key to sit up at an angle. I called Korg, and they send a new key, the old one was very easy to replace, and cost VERY little!

I'd reccomend this machine to anyone who wants a nice sounding versatile synth, but isn't too worried about the action.
As a frequent traveller, portability and lighthness in weight, size is important to me. I owned a very, very powerful Yamaha PSR-740 synthesizer. But then, i had not used it that much bcoz it weights a little heavy so my mother and sisters have benefited using it more than me. So i bought a Korg X5D synthesizer. The sounds of this keyboard is good.Though it does not compare with the engine power of my PSR740, but this little X5D is tiny and very portable. Very perfect to keep me practice my music study. If you seek an elite but tiny and compact powerful synthesizer, you can carry anywhere, the Korg X5D is what you are looking for. This is the smallest, most powerful keyboard with standard key size.

 User: Malcolm Walton
Ease of Use:

The Electribe is very easy to use - out the box, turn it on and press play. You have noise! The buttons and knobs all feel

well secure and of decent quality, the rubber keys are a joy to work with - they feel like you could hammer them away all day

and they'd still be fine.
Pattern selection is done via the big knob, same as any groove box of this type. You have about 180 pre-made patterns, House,

Techno, DnB, Big Beats etc. With a total of 250 patterns, each of which is made up of 64 steps.
I'm using it for techno - the factory defaults are very housey / commercial, so I strip a 16 step pattern down completely,

then add one or two notes on the sequencer, then just tweak that until I like it, then copy it up to the other 32 steps.
A nice feature is being able to switch the step sequencer to act as a keyboard - this allows you to bash out a pattern then

instantly switch to step mode and then tweak away.
Recording knob movements is limited to one button per pattern, but even so, is a great addition and allows some serious

bending of sounds.
Theres a couple of pre made songs on there as well to show you how well you could be doing!

Features:
You get a 2 part oscillator, each part can be sent to seperate outs (2 outs in total) and also can be controller via seperate

MIDI channels. This allows you quite a bit of freedom - try plugging one of the outputs back in to the input. The Input acts

like a sidechain insert which allows you to feed a audio source through the Audio In. Giving you various effects like gating.
The Sequencer also works as a keyboard.
Distortion, flange, chorus, delay fx, all good, but not brilliant.
Tap tempo, allows you to set the BPM via tapping a button. GOod for live DJ setups I guess. Or this just picks up MIDI clock

time codes, so it all plays in time.
NRPN MIDI allows you to control all functions from a MIDI controller.

Expressiveness/Sounds:
I like the sounds in this box, they happen to suit my style very well indeed. (Minimal). But then on the other hand some of

the default patches which I wouldn't use give off a large sound by themselves.
The FX could be slightly tighter, but they do the job.
As with most sounds you either like them or not, so its a matter of sucking it and seeing. Personally I think you can create

some warm, harmonious sounds, but then crank up the distortion or change the waveform and you can produce something much more

grainy.

Customer Support:
The korg.com (.co.uk doesn't) web site has the manuals, they even have a MIDI implementation chart on there now, which is

handy if you know your HEX and binary!!

Overall Rating:
I wouldn't use this as a main synth in mainstream music, I can't see it being up to the job, but as an accompanying sound

module it works very well.
I'm please with the overall performance of the module, would recommend it to any bedroom studio that is after a nice little

MIDI controlled module.

This stage piano is the best value for money you are ever likely to get. The action is incredible, it actually feels like your playing a 30 grand Steinway.
It's very straighforwrd and easy to use, the piano sounds offer a lot of variety. I really like some of the piano sounds, I actually dislike a pure concert grand piano sound because it has a metallic undertone to it I feel but there are some really nice slightly mellow presets on the SP200.
While it's not stated as being a graded hammer action, as you run up and down the octaves, perhaps because of the quality of the samples, you feel like your playing the real thing.
This is my first digital piano and frankly I'm amazed at the realism of the thing.
I bought it for giging with a band because I was fed up using sound bank samples with a master keyboard, I wanted to get more expression into my playing and the SP200 has inspired my playing!
To be fair, I've only played a few other stage pianos and all of them were a few years old so I can't offer and direct comparison to any other current stage pianos out there but for the price the SP200 is offered for here, it must be the best vaule for money around.
I'm only giving it nine out of ten because a split keyboard option would have been nice. You can layer sounds but it would have been nice to be able to play strings with the left hand and the melody with the right. I'm sure the SP300 etc. probably has these functions.
Overall, I'm very pleased with it.
In a word, excellent. Being pretty much a novice to this kind of workstation I was worried that I might not be able to use the keyboard to it's full capabilities. Having owned it for a month now I can quite honestly say I needn't have worried.
The way everything is laid out/stored makes everything easily accessable and a quick flick through the manual quickly cleared up any problems I encountered with the sequencer etc.

I would highly reccommend this workstation for anyone, novice or pro. The only problem I encountered was with the flight case, which after a month I'm hoping to recieve tomorrow.... hopefully everyone doesn't have this problem as it has made it a pain in the a$$ moving it around.
