I have had these monitors for a few months now and they are definitely the best thing I have purchased in a long while. they are extremely sturdy they have a lovely finish, the sound fantastic when the volume is down low but they are still capable of shaking all the walls in the house when I turn the volume up... I am deducting one point only because i would prefer if the front button would turn the monitor off rather than put it in a stand-by state, but to conclude I think they have lived up to their review from musicTech mag, and the seem like the kind of thing that will last forever...
they surpassed everything i expected , tannoy was recommended to me by a couple of dj friends who have run them for years without trouble and with great sound quality , mid range is great and clarity at low volume ( terraced house and all that ) is superb , great value for money , cables turned out a little tricky and not totally resolved yet but dolphin are on it and i expect my replacements and mats shortly .
I Baught these from Dolphin two months ago and the sound quality is absolutely exellent for the price, my tunes are sounding so much better than they ever have done. the level of accuracy of these monitors is great and its helped me stick to my production and I am even geeting 100 vinyl presses of a track. I would not have done this without buying my monitors as I was never happy with the levelsm in my tracks utill now. thanks Tannoy. thanks Dolphin

 User: Al
Rating; 9/10
Having seen and played a lot of epiphone's gibson models, I have to say they are so impressive that i cant think of any reason why its worth forking out more for a 'genuine' gibson, apart from the prestige that comes with the price tag.

First off, the finish is beautiful. for the very reasonable asking price, it is as close to perfection as can be. the smooth satin finished neck and body look and more importantly, feel great. All chrome and plastic parts are in good shape too, albeit for the odd choice of colour for the pickup selector swith - bright orange. Slight imperfections in the binding are all i can find on the neck, but at VERY close range. Finish (for the price) 10/10

The guitar is very playable, its light and fast, but feels just solid enough to rock out with. The sg feels quite vulnerable compared to les paul models due to its significantly thinner body, and i dont think this thing could survive too many drops or kicks, or drummers standing on it while getting stuff out of the van - so consider a hard case if you gig a lot! out of the box, it needs some tweeking to get to your liking, pickup height, string height etc need a but of fine tuning. some sloppy assembly around the bridge area left the screws a bit damaged and out of line, but no biggie. Nut seems a little on the plasticky side, but holds and plays fine with no rattle or play.

Build quality 7/10

The really important bit is how it sounds, and this guitar cooks! it has bite, warmth and a variety of tonal oportunities from its controls, laid out as 2 volume and 2 tone, controlling each pickup independantly. The pickup selector switch runs bridge (marked treble), neck (rhythm) and both (middle position). Using these and a quality amp give you anything from all out rock and roll, to blues, to... well pretty much anything! The versatilty of this guitar is very impressive. Its partly due to the thinness of the body, the lower sustain time and the quicker decay of sound (acoustically speaking) gives a well rounded and warm tone, but hard woods give it a clear biting attack. Also the pickups are of suprisingly high quality, with expected noise, but generally very quiet when run together or clean. Superb!

Sound 9/10

PROS: looks fantastic, plays fantastic, sounds fantastic, smells fantastic... its just fantastic!

CONS: Possibly built by (very skilled) korean orphans to get it to you at such a low cost, lazy part assembly, concerns about strength (all sg style guitars)

ALL IN ALL, 9/10, forget the gibson sg special of around the same price tag, it doesnt even come close to this guitar in any way (after tweeking, of course). Do not be fooled by MADE IN AMERICA, it means nothing.
Haven't cracked them open yet, but not only did they arrive this morning before I left for work, but they were by far cheaper than any other site on the net. 10 out of 10 to you guys, I will be buying all my future music gear from you.
Wow, these little guys have the soft smooth feel of their big brothers the Golds at a fraction of the cost. In fact I would say that they would make the ideal replacement for those worn out white-coned workhorses.

Seriously, I was pleasantly suprised by the quality and accuracy of these monitors, espescially at the bargain price. None of the boxiness of the NS10s nor the hardness of certain other monitors.

Lovely ergonomics too, I like the finish (colour matches my studio drum kit) though it does scratch easily so be careful whilst installing them. Shape is quite sleek and is topped off by the usefully placed mesh guard that protects your tweeter domes from inquiring fingers.

In terms of accuracy all of my mixes that I have done on these have been spot on you really get a good idea of the expected living room sound. Bass response isn't bad either. I was having trouble on the bass end of my mixes but since getting these the freq response and imaging is spot on.

Top buy, very happy camper.
Seconds after they delivered these beauties in my place, they went straight out of the box to my desk. I was really surprised because they looked far bigger than they appear on the picture! But really stylish in that bordeaux front panel!
Well, after I connected them to my T-Class amp, I went immediately to my own stuff to listen to it. I was amazed by the details and stereo width they deliver. Bass has "body", higs and mids are all well defined. I'm a dance music producer so the fact that the sound is so (soooo) phat is a plus for me (although it's quite faithful).
I'm also using them as day-to-day speakers so I listen to all my music on them. I noticed I stopped working for whole minutes just to pay attention to the detail now presented in tracks I knew by heart... so really, hearing is believing. For this price tag, there simply isn't better.
I have owned a pair of reveal 5A's for approximately 2 months now. I use them in a very small (box room 2m x 3m) home studio. I use these monitors to write electronic dance music (I know, yet another. Before purchasing the reveal 5A's I was considering the Yammaha MSP3's and the MSP5's also, the Samson Resolv 50A's or the 40A's

Ordered these late Friday afternoon. They went out same day, over the weekend I tracked the parcel via my online account login and link to the couriers, and I got the delivery first thing on Monday morning - that's what I call customer service, thanks guys!!

Tannoy is a name that speaks for itself. When you buy a Tannoy product you are buying into a heritage that dates back seventy years. The Reveal 5A's in particular build upon the professional success of the Tannoy Reveal Active that was introduced in the nineties. So right from the start you know that you're not going to open the box and be disappointed by poor workmanship and amateur design. In fact Tannoy guarantee the Reveal 5A's against defective material and/or craftsmanship for a period of 5 years. That's probably for as long as most professionals will want to be using a pair of nearfields before updating and or upgrading.

Tannoy Reveal 5A's stand out above the crowd because every aspect of their design has been well thought out and their performance is fantastic. The 5A's were easy to setup, the manual (also downloadable in PDF from the Tannoy website) covers the basics of speaker placement.

During initial tests, whilst listening to some familiar music, it was quite evident that the performance capability is strongest at the 200Hz to 2KHz and 10KHz regions. Tannoy point out that you can further improve the mid-bass response by plugging the rear bass ports (see the manual for details). So as I am also using a subwoofer (set to 150Hz low pass), it made sense to plug the ports and enjoy that noticeable improvement on mid-bass response.

Having used the 5A's for over a week now, I am happy with the way they are performing and how I am fitting in around them. I think there is a give and take relationship with speakers because we all take a unique perspective on sound pressure across the spectrum. Personally I like that the 5A's have a fast tight bass response and clear midrange. And because they are designed to have very low levels of time, amplitude and frequency distortion, I am able to listen to a mix at equally low and high levels without any loss of clarity.

I first saw the Tannoy Reveal at the Channel M TV Studios here in Vancouver, and was told by their Chief Engineer how good they are. Well, he was right! The styling is quite stunning in my book, and the woodwork is beautifully done considering the price. The sound is smooth and sweet with a wonderfully textured detail. I can listen for hours upon hours, and at quite high levels, and never feel any listener's fatigue. The bass is rich and quite deep, with superb pace and timing. Midrange, is very balanced, with a finesse and character that makes voices so lifelike, that one sometimes has to look around the room for the person. I found spending an afternoon positioning the speakers carefully in the listening room paid of huge rewards in superb pinpoint imaging. If your choice for a loudspeaker is for a neutral, truthful, sounding studio monitor, then you have found your pot of gold with this superb product by Tannoy.
