User: Mike B
Rating; 7/10
There are a lot of really nice sounds on this keyboard and it's a good all rounder whatever your style of music.

It feels a little cheap and plastically, and the keyboard action isn't great. Try playing it with the sound off and you'll hear what I mean. Also the pitch bend squeaks and takes a while to return to the middle!

There are hours of fun to be had with the performances that have built in bass and drum sounds and up to 6 variations. However, there are no intro, fills, and outros. They are labelled arp1 arp2 so for each performance you need to remember which of them sounds a bit like a fill or break. The problem with the fills are that they don't automatically move onto the next arp so you hit say arp4 which might be a drum fill and it stays like that until you then press arp1. Yes you can sequence all of this but as it's called a performance and designed to be used as a performance I find this and the general lack of intros and outros quite limiting to these performances.

Polyphony is up to 64. Having sequenced one of the trance performances though I didn't seem to have enough left over for a piano without it noticeably cutting off notes. You can get round this by recording audio to cubase as separate tracks but I'm yet to fathom out how I'd do this and quantise all the tracks together.

The USB out for DAW work is great and the provision of cubase excellent.

Overall Excellent sounds based on the MOTIF range. Lots of buttons and nobs to play with and almost worth the money in my opinion.

Cheers.
This synth is awesome it does so much!
It has as much if not more functions than its rivals (microkorg, miniak, micron etc)
but is cheaper.

It is not as good looking, and the build quality isnt great but as long as you arent smacking it, it should be fine!

Great sounding thing, and great first synth.
bought one of these to use with a home made talkbox (now upgraded to a banshee) and i\'m very impressed with the sound this little beastie can make.. You really do have to dig around in the editing section to get anything unique out of it though.
Editing could be easier, but with only a small screen you couldnt do any better really. Bought a dx100 to use with the \'box now, and this is now being used for leads and agressive bass sounds. Great purchase and i\'m very satisfied with it.
Build quality is excellent and the power supply has a nice long cable.
One bad point.. The onboard vocoder is terrible (the included mic is surprisingly good however) and is fairly useless for intelligable sounds.. Running it into an old zoom effects unit gives fantastic results though, so the sounds obviously have the right harmonic content.
Ignoring the vocoder - 9/10
But seeing as thats a selling point for some people an overall score of 8 seems fair.
Delivered to my home in Belfast in 2 days, very good service!
As to the tenori itself its quite an expressive machine thats lets you explore sequencing in a more interesting method.
It is also good for controlling your DAW or hardware synths. The sampling capacity is a bit limited and some say the sounds are limited as you cannot shape them. I think this is a good for forcing ideas and expressivness. Too many options can stifle the idea flow.
An expressive item even though it is promoted as the budget model but once you get it, you will be glad you did. Be prepared for hundreds of lost hours! lol
In December 2009 I purchased the microkorg / Kinetic 2 package. (read my review of the microkorg)from Dolpin Music. I have rated the Kinetic 2 programme 1 Star due to the following reasons.
When I installed the programme and went to the Cakewalk website I was informed that the programme had already been registered. I wrote back saying that the programme had arrived with me in a sealed box and hadnot been opened in any way. Cakewalk replied a week later saying if I sent a copy of my invoice they \"Might\" send me a authorisation code. I spoke to Dolphin and they told me my invoice was online. I sent over my details and following another few days Cakewalk sent me another registeration code. I found that I could not use this code as the programme would only accept the code incripted on the original CD. I contacted Dolphin Music and they in turn contacted Cakewalk (part of Roland). I have now been told that I cannot return the software package and Cakewalk / Roland will not authourise and exchange and Dolphin cannot exchange this programme for a working one which I paid for.
As you will see from my Microkorg review I was over the moon with the keyboard, however I have only given this product a 1 Star rating due to them not having a No Star rating for a programme that has never worked. So in review Buy the Microkorg, but Do Not think you are Getting FREE recording software because all you end up with is a lot of phone calls and two companies that are not prepared to honour the product they sell.
I have to say, the preset sounds in this thing are amazing! I\'m very happy with it my only problem is I think editing the sounds could be easier. Fantastic synth for someone who wants to have a load of great sounds right away but maybe look elsewhere if you want easier tweaking. Very useful if you\'re able to hook up the usb connection, gives you more options and there are free presets available on the korg website.
I have only had the microkorg xl for a coupleof days but in that time I have been really impressed with the range of sounds it can produce. I bought it mainly for the Vocoder, but I was amazed with the sound quality of the built in sounds and that is before you start to tweek and alter them yourself. I use a selection of Korg and Roland keyboards and this little gem fits in really well. The greatest bonus I have found is the editing sorftware that you download from the Korg wedsite. Trying to find all the correct peramiters with the 3 little knobs on the righthand side of the keyboard is a pain, but the editing software is a breeze to use and is Windows 7 ready. You also get the original microkorg samples plus 2 other sets of sounds ready to download through your USB lead and play. This gives you a total of 520 sounds to play and tweek to you hearts content. You can also swap and save your own set of sounds, so you could just have a range of vocoder settings if you wanted.

Things I don\'t like about the microkorg. The build. it seems very flimsy and those three knobs on the right hand side could very easily get broken off. This not a problem if you are just using it in the studio but on the road I think you would need a hard case to keep it safe.
Overall a great keyboard and it will amaze folks when they hear what this toytown looking this moster can produce.
I\'ll keep this short and sweet like the microKORG.

A professional level synth that is relatively affordable and looks cool.

This is my first synth (purchased six months ago). When I was trying to find a synth I didn\'t have a clue what I was looking for. I found the microKORG and got the feeling \'this is the one\'.

I can only liken my whole experience to that of fatherhood. At first it was overwhelming and exciting. I trusted my instincts and went with my feeling. Now every day I love it even more and get a little flutter of joy when I look at it.
A few bits of info for starters:
If you are looking for a keyboard to play piano, strings, brass, etc, Blofeld is NOT for you. But for everything synthetic / electronic, this IS the answer!
Second bit of info: This synth is incredibly deep... How deep? Deep! There are numerous layers of sound crafting capability which requires a basic understanding of sound synthesis. However, don\'t let this put you off - the matrix system of controls means you can spend ages just going through the 1000+ presets, then slowly begin knob-twiddling as you become more confident. Don\'t be afraid to twiddle those knobs and press those buttons because the worst you can do is wipe the memory banks, in which case you just go to the Waldorf website and download and install everything again - completely free.

This is my first hardware synth, and the decision to choose Blofeld was based on a lot of research, including one review which said; \"if you are going to buy just one hardware synth, buy the Blofeld\"! Having used a few other hardware synths I must say I agree completely!

I have a home studio setup with MIDI controllers, big monitors, etc, which is definitely not portable, so I needed something I can take with me when I spend more than a day or 2 away from home! What I do is play it through headphones from the dedicated headphone jack, with my Edirol R09 stereo recorder plugged in to the 2 1/4inch output jack sockets (Left socket doubles as a stereo out). Then if I find a new riff I like or new melody / project ideas, I can record them immediately and when I get home simply import them to my studio computer. This works very well as long as I keep notes about which sounds were used in each recording.

The range of sounds Blofeld can produce is simply staggering, and the quality of those sounds is orgasmic! The depth with which sounds can be shaped and mangled is absolutely mind-boggling too. I\'m no expert but I\'ve been making electronic music long enough to know this; I will probably never use every feature this keyboard possesses - even if I continue to work with it for 3 or 4 hours every day. Blofeld has set off a rush of creativity in me and I want to thank Waldorf and Dolphin Music for making and supplying this awesome keyboard synthesizer quickly, efficiently, and at such an astonishingly low price considering its spec and build quality.

Many thanks from a very happy customer!
The Yamaha MM6 review.

I have only had mine for a few weeks and to start with I didn\'t like the sound of it at all, except when it was playing the 3 demo songs which sounded great.

I found that the modulation wheel had a really negative effect on the pure instrument sounds and turned it down to zero and then by using the main voice also as the dual voice, this added a much better depth to the sound.

Later, after playing with the effects settings the MM6 has produced some wonderful sounds and I am very glad that I bought it.

Considering the price compared with the Motif Synths I consider the MM6 to be a very good first synth.

I just wish I could find more time to use it!
I recently started learning to play and I wanted an entry level synth that would allow me the freedom of playing as well as straight forward and simple manipulation of the sounds provided. I was not disappointed! I love this machine so much and is perfect for any beginners like myself!

The only warning I have is that you need to buy speakers to hear the damn thing! I sat there for an hour trying to figure out why no sound would play, then dashed over to PC world to buy a speaker system (which now doubles up as my surround sound for TV yay).

You can use headphones though, you just need one of those converters that make the small jack...bigger :)

Great system! Great price! Fast and secure delivery. Brilliant!

The Waldorf Blofeld keyboard synthesiser was the second hardware synth I purchased, previously I had bought the wonderful Microkorg. Although I found limitations with the Microkorg and wanted something that had more.

Once discovering the Blofeld keyboard synth and drooling over the vast paramaters that can be altered I knew this synth, for the price, would be perfect.

Having finished a music tech course at uni and sruggling with money I knew I would not be able to afford a Virus, Moog or a Nord. (Maybe in the future!)
For 699 the Blofeld offers a lot compared to other synths in this price range. I had struggled for weeks over which synth to get between the price range of 500 to 800. The things that drew me in were:
three oscillators, in depth arpeggiator, on board effects, aftertouch keys, 49 keys, being encased in steel.

I worried about navigation through the menus would be complicated due to the vast amount of parameters this synth can do but the menu is very straightforward.

The sounds are thick and warm and in my opinion beat any soft synth I have used. The filters are very good and I could see myself easily using such an effect in a live performance.

Also, the Blofeld feels like a beast when you pick it up, which I find comforting.

A great synthesiser to buy and the manual is a good read :D love those germans!
Having seen the Blofeld desktop module, gain a wealth of popularity over the past year or so, I have always regarded it as \'one to look out for\'. I saw that the keyboard version had been released and having heard about the quality construction of the desktop module, I decided to take the plunge!

Encased in the gorgeous white metal, adorned with brushed Aluminium knobs and a dot matrix LCD display, there lies a powerful digital synthesis engine that at times could easily be mistaken to be analogue. The analogue effect patches can be supplemented with all sorts of pops, clicks and reverb to give them more depth and realism. The easy to use graphical interface, makes it a breeze to create even the most complex sound-scapes, to which dozens of layers and effects can be added.

I\'m still trying to get to grips with the arpeggiator, simply because there are so many options; combining the arpeggiator patterns, with the three LFO\'s can produce some interesting results to say the least.

The semi-weighted keys are a welcome addition to synths in this price range. You can feel the sturdy construction with every key-press, which only serves to reinforce sense of power you get.

All in all, a worthy purchase. If you are looking for a synth in this price range, for me there\'s no competition.

NB. If you are looking to spend a little less, or don\'t need the keyboard, I strongly recommend the desktop version as it\'s essentially the same minus the keyboard, mod wheel and pitch-bend.
For what I want, this is a seriously great synth for the price. I needed a midi controller and computer audio interface for my growing home studio, and I have always wanted a synth. But I didn\'t realize I would be able to get all three in one really compact package.

Initially, I had a few problems getting the synth to record in logic studio, but this was more to do with me being a total logic / mac novice
- and yet the people at novation kindly went out of their way to explain step by step how to set it up in logic when I asked them in an email. They replied quickly as well, and all in all they have provided outstanding customer service.

The synth is very versatile. The bass sounds are particularly good, but I love using some of the pre-programmed funk leads with the mod joystick. I admit, I\'ve not really delved into making my own patches yet, and I\'d imagine the small screen and small fonts on the knobs and buttons aren\'t the most user friendly, but for saying that all the sounds loaded on it already have been built using only whats there, there is obviously a lot of scope for almost any type of synth sound you want.

There are no problems with using this as a midi controller in logic... this part was plug and play.

If I had more space I would have gone for the 49 key version, but as space is an issue this fits in perfectly in the slide-out keyboard tray in my computer desk.
It Gives you full Control over everything, the arpegiator is absolutely stunning and fully editable, the synth itself looks so vintage, it has a lovely wood effect finish on the sides!!
It has Midi In and out and the vocoder is high quality!

When i first went about looking for a small, cheap synth to buy i started off thinking about such things as a microkorg, and maybe even an alesis micron. However i wasnt happy, the microkorg seems like a good synth but nearly everyone has one and i never really looked into the alesis as much. Then i stumbled upon the xiosynth and was shocked at the price.

164.99 for a 25 key synth with 3 ocillators, midi controling and an audio interface.

Ill skip to the main points now that i was amazed by...
although i am new to hardware synthesisers and have only really used soft synths im happy with the capabilities of the xio. The synth comes with 200 good presets but i have found about 300 more on the internet. Editing or creating sounds is much easier than some people make out, most buttons have at least 2 functions but after a bit or playing you get used to it.

The midi controlling side of the synth is really good. You can use it to control software with the 16 presets already on it. However, you can also use it to control other hardware with ease. When using the xio live i also use it to control a yamaha djx iib, which has no keys but has general midi sounds such as piano which you may need live. However once set i can use both the sounds from the xio and djx iib without touching the djx for the whole set. I can even keep the keys for the xio sounds and the buttons at the top for the djx sounds.

The interface on the xio may be simple but it works, letting you record into software of simple plug something into the xio so that you can hear it out of whatever speaker the xio is playing through.

All together i think the xio is amazing for the price, maybe if i had more money and could afford a really expensive synth i may not think the same. However if you want a cheap 3 in 1 synth that sounds like its worth alot more then get one of these.
I went from using software synths to not wanting to make songs withiout my xio.

 Hardware
Well itEURs small, solid and weighty with a distinctive grey on white finish. The aluminium knobs have a nice damped feel to them, and the display is clear and easy to read, in fact the whole package reeks of quality.

The Manual
Never normally a strong point for synths, this one (bar a couple of minor typoEURs) however is pretty good. The downside is, only the starter manual is printed, the full manual is on the accompanying CD in the usual PDF format. I would also have preferred some display screenshots in the main manual. I particularly liked the comment on page 11 though, EURDonEURt let your Blofeld beside children, mothers-in-law or pets. This could lead to critical interactionsEUR!

In use
The techs specs are comprehensive, donEURt think because this is a dinky little synth that itEURs underpowered, 3 oscillators two of which can use wavetables, 4 envelopes, 3 LFOEURs, 2 filters per voice, of which there are many types including high pass, band pass, low pass, PPG Wave filter and the particularly aggressive comb filters (positive and negative). These filters are crackers and in combination with the drive curves can produce some powerful overdriven sounds that will upset the neighbours.
The arpeggiator is well specced but a bit fiddly to program and comes with a modest 15 preset patterns. One sound that uses it to great effect is EURRicochet2008EUR, fans of old Tangerine Dream will appreciate that one.
So the sound, well itEURs quite frankly German, classic Waldorf that takes you back to the PPG Wave, Microwave, and Q but for a lot less money. It comes loaded with 1000 presets (check out the website for good example demos) which show it off well, however with just a few tweaks of the aluminium knobs you can create your own wildly different sounds and itEURs so easy you will want to.

Overall
Well IEURve had my Blofeld a few weeks and I love it. It doesnEURt sound like my virtual analogue soft synths, workstation synths or anything else for that matter. ThatEURs why I bought it. It sounds gritty, clangy, dark, ethereal and wonderfully synthetic. Furthermore with itEURs gratifyingly easy interface I want to use it. I can quickly modify an existing patch and sonically mangle it in no time. On the wish list I would ask for a software editor, more comprehensive global spec and the ability for the arpeggiator to transmit midi, other than that IEURm more than happy with my little German synth.

First of all I'd like to comment on the style of this synthesizer. It's a very modern and up-to-date synthesizer with a retro look, taking you back to the 80's where synths were worshipped like Gods.

This synth is very powerful, don't let the size put you off, it has 128 analogue sounds pre-programmed into it for you to have fun with.

Editing the sound is easy. You don't have to scroll through endless menus just to alter the portamento slightly, it's all done with the flick of a knob to choose the effect, then the flick of another to change it.

Then there's the vocoder. This is where I was really impressed. Not only does it have 16 preset sounds, but they are editable like the synth sounds, and you get a free mic too. This is value for money, how many other synth vocoders have you seen at this price? Not many.

Also, you can switch between vocoder and synth with the simple turn of a control knob, which also organises the synth sounds into categories for ease of searching for the ones you need.

All sounds can also be changed from synth to vocoder and vice versa, so if you had a really cool synth sound, and you want to use it with the vocoder, just switch it over with a swivel of the knob. Simple!

With the simple click of a button, you can capture the formants of your voice and play them with the keyboard.

This is a synthesizer with countless effects and a fantastic value vocoder that can be changed and manipulated like a ball of clay.

If you can, get the limited edition with reverse colour keys, apparently it will be worth a lot in the future.

I recommend this to beginners and experts alike, so even though it's affordable, it doesn't mean it can't be used by proffesionals.

After all, successful bands such as the Hoosiers and Hot Chip use this machine to great effect!

You can too!

It's simple, sweet and sexy, and you can be pumping out huge fat analogue sounds with the click of a "buy now" button!!!
This keyboard works on all levels: as a controller, synth and interface. So for the money you are getting a fair deal ... it all works

However I would advise you to think hard before you go for this keyboard. If you are using Reason for instance then the on board sounds become redundant:if you are into synths and are creative then you may be disappointed - built in patches are functional but not particularly inspiring .. ok if you just like pressing a button and stuff happens;the audio interface does "what it says on the tin" : the keyboard itself I found lamentable. Really .. my old PSR has a better action than this thing ... so if you are musical and need a response from your keyboard this is not for you ..
more of a kareoke type approach to music is required for this thing.

Sorry but it's true

After 3 or so weeks playing and gigging with this red beast I\'m in love! It has lived up to my expectations in every way.

I had several reservations about buying the stage 76, since it would be replacing two full size (88 key) yamaha keyboards.

Firstly, I was unsure that there would be enough keys. However - 76 keys is absolutely plenty for me, even when I'm playing jazz requiring a wide range of notes. The size and weight of the keyboard are incredibly low for such a powerhouse of an instrument - meaning that even in its flightcase, it can fit widthways across the backseats in my car.

Secondly, I was worried that the acoustic pianos wouldn't live up to my P120s yamaha digital piano which has a superb action (and if anyone wants to buy it its for sale on http://www.musicalinstrumentsales.co.uk/photoad.php?adId=4123 !) However, the acoustic pianos are fantastic, with massively realistic fullness and character - i know this is blasphemy to piano players but I now prefer playing the stage to the real thing! You can also download piano samples from clavia.com for free as they develop more.

Recreations of rhodes, wurlitzers, clavs, and hammond organs are stunning, actually rivalling the original instruments, with the ability to put them (and any other instrument on the stage) through amp, overdrive, wah, tremelo, phaser, and chorus effects (to name just a few) at the touch of a button.

As a complete novice at playing synthesizers, I was apprehensive at being able to operate the dedicated synth section. However, it is very user friendly, with the ability to create great pads, basses, and leads, with just a bit of knob turning and button pushing.

The user friendliness and performability of the nord stage is one of its finest attributes, and one of the reasons I switched from yamaha. With no menu-diving, and intuitive operation of keyboard splits, layers, programs, effects, and octave shifts, it means that you can happily adjust things whilst playing; impossible on most keyboards without disrupting the sound.

Basically it feels like a superb sounding, easy to use analogue instrument, with the digital benefits of program storage, low size and weight, and massive versatility. I can go from a jazz trio, to funk and soul, all the way to drum and bass, with just one (very good looking) keyboard.

For more details, images, and specs, check out http://www.nordusa.com/stage.html

A truly beautiful, soulful instrument: the high price reflects the superlative quality.
Firstly, 76 keys is absolutely plenty for me, even when I\'m playing jazz requiring a wide range of notes. The size and weight of the keyboard are incredibly low for such a powerhouse of an instrument - meaning that even in its flightcase, it can fit widthways across the backseats in my car.

Secondly, I was worried that the acoustic pianos wouldn\'t live up to my P120s yamaha digital piano which has a superb action (and if anyone wants to buy it its for sale on http://www.musicalinstrumentsales.co.uk/photoad.php?adId=4123 !) However, the acoustic pianos are fantastic, with massively realistic fullness and character - i know this is blasphemy to piano players but I now prefer playing the stage to the real thing! You can also download piano samples from clavia.com as they develop more.

The user friendly and performability of the nord stage is one of its finest attributes, and one of the reasons I switched from yamaha. With no menu-diving, and intuitive operation of keyboard splits, layers, programs, effects, and octave shifts, it means that you can happily adjust things whilst playing, immpossible on most keyboards without disrupting the sound.

Basically it feels like a superb sounding, easy to use analogue instrument, with the benefits of program storage, low size and weight, and massive versatility. I can go from a jazz trio, to funk and soul, all the way to drum and bass, with just one (very good looking) keyboard.

The delivery and service by Dolphin Music was also impressive, from exchanging myspace addresses with the helpful and knowledgeable sales guy, to getting the delivery less than 24 hours after ordering.

A truly beautiful, soulful instrument - the high price reflects the superlative quality.
The Korg M3-m module is well suited to creating music with or without a computer due to it's exceptional internal sequencer. Most of the time, a computer is only needed when doing the final mixdown and nowadays you may not even need one for that! The inclusion of the KARMA engine when combined with the OASYS/Triton sounds would be enough to make any budding musician seriously consider which possesions they really need when they could have one of these. For audiophiles, it is superb to say the least. The expansive range of connectors (such as USB2, Firewire, 5-pin MIDI as well as true stereo sampling and multiple analog and digital outs) allow you to route your sounds and data virtually any way you want and to pretty much any type of source imaginable!
The only very small little thing that I found to dissuade me from giving this a perfect ten was that the two USB-A ports were slightly too close together to permit connecting my thicker memory sticks at the same time. Once I find a USB extension cable, you can be assured that this will be worth a resplendent and well-earned 10.
I can' really see how the MM6 can hurt your ears, unless of course someone hit you with it. It's one flaw if it has one is it is sooooo light. Get carried away and it would be off the stand in a flash. Sound wise it is very good, nice rich and lush pads, biting leads, and very realistic for real instruments. You get a lot for your money on this one. I don't own one myself, but played with one for an hour in a local music shop. Oh and my ears didn't hurt a bit when I finished playing.
The sounds you can create with the R3 are limitless. It will take many many hours to get to the heart(s) of this instrument. That is a lot of the cool factor of a/any synthesizer after all.

Only some of the presets are really usable to me personally.

The full sized keys (yes full sized) do not have much resistance at all but that is okay.

The overall sound of the R3 is quite different from the microKorg, brighter it seems, more shimmering and bright.

The R3 is a beautiful instrument to look at though it is very light and does not feel all that sturdy. Not much metal on this instrument except from it's sounds. A hard case is a must for gigging or travel.

I would like to have seen a logical lock on the Bank Select Dial as it is very easy to bump this large dial and switch programs by mistake, especially during a performance.

The connections on the R3 are ample.

The vocoder is not my cup of tea but may use it at some point.

I am not a huge synthman and this was a pretty big investment for me. The R3 is a monster Korg synthesizer in a small footprint.
Having been a fan of synths since my first Juno 6 , I wanted a keyboard which could produce lush pads , multi layered sound scapes and fun grooves to get the creative juices flowing. This synth does it all and more. Only negative is you only have a limited number of keys to do it with 2 Octaves to be precise... Just run a 61 plus key controller in and you're up and running. It would take pages to say what its capable of but all the sounds you're likely to need are present and correct plus an option to hear a brief demo of the patch in audition mode ( very nice idea Korg ). The grooves are very tuneful, some lean towards Acid / Heavy drum and bass and many are just great to drift off to and give you ideas for future hits .. maybe ..

It comes in a groovy hard case , is easy to set up and use , great for bands who need a lttle brass or organ to spice up numbers but have no space for lots of different full size keyboards .. and keyboard players :)

All round, an inspirational piece of kit.
The MM6 is a really cheap synth that seems to offer a lot for the money. It claims to be a somehow stripped down motif. But it just doesn't sound very good. In fact after a short time of playing it made my ears hurt and my muscles contract! You are way better of spending a little extra on the M06, witch is an amazing maching for the money, or finding an alternative product.

I do not own this product, but trying it at the store was enough. Have been a synth player for 15+ years.
An amazingly versatile piece of kit..! A joy to play, even the pre-sets alone make this worth buying, but add on all of the sounds you can manipulate using the synth controls, plus it's use as a MIDI controller and soundcard for my Mackie Tracktion sequencer and it's the icing on the cake. Well worth it, and a great value for money. The printed (not on a CD)manual is very clear as well along with Tutorials on Introduction to Synths and MIDI so no need to buy other books. Definitely recommend this.
oh my god! does it get any better than this? i don't think so...

i recently bought an electro 2 61 key and thought it was great. i bought it for it's size mainly and loved the sounds.

had some issues with piano sounds (which is the main thing i originally wanted to play) and ended up 'moving up' to the stage compact.

wow....it is far superior to the electro(in fairness the electro does not claim to be a great 'piano', it's more organ/clav).

but all round, in every department, the stage takes things to a new level. it's got same basic sounds as electro with the bonus of more acoustic piano sounds, two more organs and a synth so you've got a load more sounds to play around with.

originally, i was not interested in synth stuff. never played one, never wanted one. but playing around with the stage has inspired me with all the weird and wonderful mixes you can achieve.

i cannot fault this keyboard. the build quality is superb, sounds are awesome. waterfall semi weighted keys have plenty enough 'feel'. even for traditional piano players like me. different of course, but it only takes a few minutes to get used to it and it does not feel 'cheap and plasticky' as i always think synth type keyboards feel.

ok, so it's got 73 keys, 12 more than my electro 61, but it's really not that much longer. still plenty small enough to not worry about moving it about. i also invested in the superb quality gig bag, which has carry handles and 'over the shoulder' straps to make it easier still.

all in all, still very compact (as the name suggests), very light, and great great sounds.

maybe 'experienced' keyboard/synth players would have issues about this or that, but for me, a basic piano player, it's a 10/10 all day long.

absolutely superb piece of kit. worth every penny.

Great sounding complex synth. If your'e into Max/Msp style patching get one of these, the filters are much better than the Msp ones in my opiion, much more analog sounding with a nice Nord distortion to them.
The Patch mutator is cool, letting you cross patches in a genetic way.And the keyboard matrix interface works well, using the knobs and buttons to control sequencers live is alot of fun.
In the case it's not too heavy to cart around and since most of the patch can be edited from the keyboard no need to take your laptop to a gig.
The XIOSYNTH 49 is an excellent portable solution for complete MIDI controller, audio interface and synth. I bought it for jamming and recording in remote locations and found it stood up well to harsh conditions and demanding work. Latency is ultra low and the audio very stable [working with Ableton]. The synth is a bonus and if you're familiar with Novation's K-Station or V-Station you'll recognise that awesome 'liquid analogue' warmth they capture... battery or USB bus power adds another dimension to flexibility of use. First the positives. The actual sounds on this keyboard are brilliant and comprehensive. You will not be dissappointed in them.
It's laid out in the normal Korg way with Program sounds, Combi sounds and Multis. The keyboard also has twin arpeggiators. There are plenty of very useable sounds straight out of the box with no tweaking.
I bought this keyboard primarily for live work, and in this department it will be A1.
The things that could be improved.
1. Build quality is little better than a Casio home keyboard. All plastic (apart from the handles) and doesn't feel at all robust. It'll be interesting to see how it stands up to touring.
2. The manual is the usual incomprehensible Korg. Great detail about things you will never want to do, but no detail at all about stuff you will want to do on a daily basis.
3. The editing software. This is in 2 parts. The standalone editor functions fine, and is easy to use. It is essential as the display window on the keyboard is tiny, and in edit mode it is almost impossible to read all the parameters.
The VST software is buggy, and continually causes VST to crash. We need an urgent update!
To sum up:
This keyboard is exceptional value at around 500. You get Triton sounds at a much cheaper price, and if you already use an external sequencer such as Cubase, you don't need the onboard sequencer on the Triton. There are flaws in the package that I have detailed above, but don't let them put you off.
I've been hooked on Roland Fantoms since the beginning. It wasn't until I heard the X50 that made me a Korg fan. This machine is very nice. Speciafically the guitars and acoustic instruments. You can't find a better deal for the price. I've never like the triton but the simplicity of this machine makes it a perfect addition to any studio. I know the world will soon see the difference in this machine. Thanks for making me a believer Korg.
I have been using this keyboard for several months and I have to say it is the best keyboard I have ever had. The B3 sound is the most realistic of any synth I have ever heard. In fact, it rivals the monster itself. The piano samples are great, the feel is great, and the effects are awsome. I just can't say enough about this unbelievable work of art.
Well what can you say about the company that started it all? The Nord lead 2X expands on the greatness of the originals by giving you extra patch memory and polyphony but still retains the super easy Nord interface and classic Nord sound.
It's like having four prophet 5's in A lightweight easy to use package. The sound capabilities might seem limited but really it is only limited by your creativity. If you get bored with the sounds try adding different outboard effects. It can really change the nord sound from epic trance lines to jazz or RnB leads to ambient drones the nord can do it.
Hello

Its a great liltle synth/controler/sound card, if you looking for something to impress yourself and your friends ...get it. I spend 1 hour in the music store playing with it. I has a build in greath synth with arpegiator, geath effects, tons of knobs, sexy blue display that shows which parameters you are tweaking , ...it has everything that you need to make music! Get it !

This synth is in my opinion one of the best synths out there! Its SOOOOOOO powerful for such a small piece of equipment. Everytime you pick this little monster up its like a flurry of creativity just washes over you. You cant pick this thing up with out something cool comin out of it. It doesnt matter if your using it in a studio or a live situation, this keyboard will always sound great!
Novation have designed an execellent product here. If you need a controller keyboard, powerfull subtractive synth, USB low latency audio interface then this is the product for you. This is only some of the features. Also, the good thing is Novation keep updating the "software" inside the X Station to improve the sound engine or templates so this won't be outdated for a while. Also with the new template editor you can edit your templates on your PC! It's great for a small home studio or a laptop user on the go!
