This mini usb keyboard is great value for money and easily one of the most portable on the market. Although the keys are smaller than standard it is still easy to play and is a fantastic tool for programming midi keys and drum parts etc. The main drawback I\'ve found is the lack of a pitch wheel and octave selector. There is room on the left side of the keys for this but M-Audio have chosen to leave them out. The pitch wheel I can live without but not being able to shift the octave means having to mess about with the drum mapping to play various midi drum units such as BFD or EZdrummer. The size is great for part of a mobile recording setup, I take mine to Thailand with me and it goes in my main bag no problem. A little bit more thought about potential users wouldnt have gone amiss though.

Midi keyboard, audio interface and even some DAW contols. This is a pretty handy peice of kit all in all and very handy if u need to record on the move. The midi keyboard it self is just that with volocity sensitive keys, pitch shifter and modulation controls. Its a 37 key keyboard with 7 octaves (3 up and 3 down). Nothing special but does the job as its supposed to. The inteface is much the same; 2 xlrs and 2 line inputs (with preamps) with 2 footswitch and expression pedal conections. There is phantom power for both mmic inputs. Also there is a direct instrument input for guitars etc. There is 2 stereo monitor outputs (left and right) and 2 analog outs as well as a headphone out (but needs adaptor from 1/4\\\" jack to headphone size input). This interface is connected to a computer by usb 2.0. In genral its a pretty good peice of kit and very handy for portable recordings. Hasn\\\'t broke on me yet but i have had a few blue screens (it could of beem my computer tho) but hasn\\\'t happened in a long time. Latencey was a small issue as well but again not sure if its my laptop or this but its nothing much to worry about. I would recomend this to someone in need of porable gear but if your looking to record a full band in studio or need an extensive midi keyboard you could probably find better options but all in all great for what its designed for.

My first ever midi controller (replacing old Yamaha PSR Keyboard), using with Reason and Cubase to create my own music. I spent ages trying different keyboards mainly for their ease of use with different software and my capabilities (limited)- I'm a guitarist experimenting rather than a keyboard player. The Novation SL allowed me to have stunning music in about 30 seconds of plugging it in especially in Reason. To misquote the advertisement - it does what it says on the box. Still getting to grips with many of the features (the complexity of editing drops the review from a 10 score)and how I can edit the template maps but the automap feature is outstanding. Its simply made creating music fun again. Now I just need to become a better player! Delivery was quick and the price was right well done Dolphin

Looks good, feels good, gets great reviews everywhere about the quality of the keyboard, controls and easy setup (all true). So far so good - I am just in the process of updating the software (firmware) and am downloading some new templates tonight (all easy stuff to do). As I haven't worked with Midi before (or keyboards for that matter) I expect to go through some sort of learning curve before I get fully up-to-speed with all it can do - thank goodness it connects via a single USB connection (supplied). Just printed out some of Novation's helpful notes from their website about how to do all this stuff, so thanks to Novation for those and a big "thank you" to Dolphin Music for your excellent service too. Just purchased this controller to work with the Reason 3.0 Demo. And even though I am new to music production I really think that this controller is making it a lot simpler for me. Its totally plug and play on Mac OSX 10.4.8 and works with Reason like a dream as there is already a built in scene. But the best part is the 9 part LCD display that feeds back exactly what rack unit you are using, the parameter settings, its just so nice to have this feedback that you don't really get on controllers of this price. Its early days yet and I've barely scratched the surface of its abilities, even now I know I made an excellent choice and is so well built I will be with me for a long time yet.

The eKeys acts as a tool for getting your ideas down onto your computer and then with the easy-to-use software compiling them and forming them into a song. The software it comes with is a little simple for more experienced users who know exactly how they want something to sound, but more in-depth software is readily available, and the software provided is easily sufficient for most; the MIDI sound range is extensive and adaptable. The teaching software is decent, with applications from teaching toddlers the basics of communication to teaching you to read and play music, with the flexibility to let you import your own music files for playing and analysing. I havenEURt had much use for the pre-recorded samples but they sound great and for someone who was into garageband they strike a decent equivalent, although the range is a bit more limited. The keyboard does not suffer from latency problems as the similarly priced Creative Prodikeys dual keyboards do, and the notes have a similar feel to classic keyboards. The small notes are both an advantage and a drawback, as they make the keyboard very compact and convenient but also make playing a little difficult; thin fingers are an advantage here. A pitch bend, quick octave shift and sustain hold button would be nice, but are not essential, as the eKeys is hardly a performance item. Overall the eKeys offers excellent value for money, and the best opportunity for effective recording and learning short of forking out hundreds of pounds. It is very easy to use with plug-and-play capabilities and straightforward software. Other than the keys being a little too small and there being no pitch, octave or sustain controls the keyboard is first-rate for my purposes, and probably the purposes of majority of those likely to buy it. Having driven all the way to the Birmingham NEC from pembrokeshire to see music live i felt obliged to buy at least somthing before i left for home. The line 6 stand was basically showing off its latest creation, the toneport KB37, just the thing i thought as i have been wanting to start home recording! When i get home with my new toy i unpack and install my new softwear, which i have to say was very easy.You get gearbox (amps and FX an stuff) and ableton live 5 lite a very capable (if not a bit daunting at first)recording softwear.I should explaine i am a total novice when it comes to computer recording but having followed the simple instuctions i was making my first hit record within the first hour. Gearbox is a joy to use and has some great sounds for your guitar bass and vocals. Albeton live 5 lite is ok if you are used to this kind of thing but i had to follow the tutorials to get started but once i got through them i realised that this is no toy and in fact a full home recording studio. The keybord is good as a controller for the softwear, there are some good synth sounds in albeton but i think i will be wanting some VST instruments for a good piano and hammond sounds. The keys are a tad light and feel a bit plasticky but for the price who can complain.I love the VU style meters on the front and the whole thing is laid out very nicely. On the back you have guitar/bass input, two phantom powered mic inputs, analog out, s/pdif Dig out, stereo monitor in, phones and inputs for optional expression pedal and footswitch. In all this is a great bit of kit for bedroom blasters and bands, it has everything you could want to record professional sounding tunes and if not you can download even more! For me the price is right and the ease of use is great. Buy one now!

After buying the Korg Microkontrol from Dolphin Music, receiving it and getting it out of the box, I was very impressed by the appearance of the keyboard. Brushed alluminium and a very rugged feel make this keyboard seem a winner. However, the keys take a little getting used to as they are rather small. Not a problem any more for me. I use this with Reason 3.0 and in "Native Mode" the Mircokontrol comes into its own, with track names automatically being sent to the beautiful LCD displays. I found this particulalry useful as it meant I knew what each encoder or slider was going to affect before moving it. The 16 trigger pads work well but need some breaking in. They are more suited to triggering samples in programs such as Live as opposed to playing drum patterns on, as they are only velocity sensitive and not pressure sensitive. However, for the price of the keyboard what would you expect. You get much more than you pay for with the Microkontrol. More assignable controllers than you would ever really need for small time music production, and a rugged portable keyboard. The only reason I gave this an 8 instead of a 9 or 10, would have to be the feel of the encoders and sliders. They feel cheap and sometimes wobble, however, if you treat them with respect and use them gently, they should last long enough.
