Spectrasonics Trilian Bass Module Reviews
Love Trillian! It's cheaper than a lot of VSTs out there but has your low-end totally covered. It has plenty of electric bass tones like Fender, Music Man, Hoffner and even a Chapman Stick and a double-bass but I'm mainly doing electronic dance stuff In-The-Box and so I'm concentrating mostly on the synth-bass of this plug-in.
I always found soft-synths sounded a bit 'plastic' and missed that analogue phatness, warmth and heft. Trillian has 30 multisampled synths by Moog, Roland, Korg, Oberheim, DSI etc and a raft of effects & speaker sims plus some nice analogue sounding filters. You get 2 layers per patch and each can be modulated, harmonised, FM'ed, filtered etc. So you could have a Moog sub an octave down from say an MS-20 Saw that's been detuned & panned hard L/R.
But the best thing is that the whole synth has been sampled, so it's also good for leads too. I've knocked off 1 point as the documentation is practically non-existent so I highly recommend taking an on-line course as it's not immediately obvious that you can easily customise the whole front panel, amongst other things.
So, if you're ITB but lusting after some analogue PHATness without the price-tag this is the one to get. Although it is a bit of a 'gate-way drug' as I've just ordered my first analogue synth ;)
