Founded in 1931, Rickenbacker was the first company in the world that set out with the exclusive aim of producing electric instruments. Its founder Adolph Rickenbacker originally started selling Hawaiian lap steel, slide and resonator guitars.
When rock and roll kicked in during the fifties, they moved to the standard guitars you know and love today: the 4000 series basses (precursors to the 4003 Jetglo bass) and the 300 series guitars are amongst the most popular. True stereo outputs and natural chorus from the 12 string 330.
In particular, The Beatles' use of Rickenbacker 6 strings, with Paul McCartney playing a Rick bass, firmly placed their iconic look and sound in popular consciousness. While Roger Waters of Pink Floyd and John Entwistle of The Who were amongst the earliest Rickenbacker bassists, their popularity has never dwindled with the Edge, Peter Buck (REM), Johnny Marr & Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend) all rocking Rickenbacker.
