Founded in 1931, Rickenbacker was the first company in the world that set out with the exclusive aim of producing electric instruments. Its founder Adolph Rickenbacker originally started selling Hawaiian lap steel, slide and resonator guitars.
When rock and roll kicked in during the fifties, they moved to the standard guitars you know and love today: the 4000 series basses (precursors to the 4003 Jetgo bass) and the 600 series guitars than led to the 660 Mapleglo and 620 12-string models.
In particular, The Beatles' use of Rickenbacker 6 strings, with Paul McCartney playing a Rick bass, firmly placed their iconic look and sound in popular consciousness. Other famous Rickenbacker 6 string players include Peter Buck, Paul Weller, and Johnny Marr, while Roger Waters of Pink Floyd and John Entwistle of The Who were amongst the earliest Rickenbacker bassists.
