Although a booming amplifier business today, manufacturing amplifiers was not always the main priority on the Orange company’s to-do list. Established in the 1960s, by a gentleman called Cliff Cooper (aka Mr. Orange) the brand was originally a musical instrument store and recording studio. The unpopularity of the studio forced Mr. Orange to explore his options, leading to his desire to attempt the retailing business. As it turned out, many of the large manufacturers refused to supply the company with their equipment and so Mr. Orange began manufacturing his own products, and as a result… Orange amplifiers were born.
From the production of the OD 120 model in the mid-70s to the company’s most recent creations, every amp and cab is made to be outstanding and to stand out from the crowd.
"I've worked with loads of bands using Orange in the studio, from metal bands to art rockers and pop-country stuff. No matter whether it's retro jangle or low-mid heavy saturated tones they always deliver. When I played the AD30 head into a 4x12 it was love at first listen." Dolphin Guitar Guru - Hugh
While the roots of Orange are in great valve tone the company has continued to push the envelope. Developing the solid state Crush range that's perfect for a gig friendly amp along with their own valve testing and management systems.
Jim Root uses Orange for the straight up "plug 'n play" philosophy. Just get your guitar and jack straight in for instant tone, creamy mids and crushing distortion on tap.
While Jim's Signature range lets guitarists get dark and distorted there's a huge range of artists using Orange. From the searing tones of Mastodon to the spiny jangles of Primus and the inimitable sound of Jimmy Page.
