Sound Absorption
( 23 items )
The two most commonly-used sound absorption materials are high-quality acoustic foam and specialized acoustic fiberglass (no, not the stuff you buy at the hardware store). For brevity, at times we'll generically call acoustic foam just plain "foam," although there are very dramatic differences in cell structure and density between acoustic foam and the thousands of other types we could manufacture. (This is why you can't just run down to the local SuperMart and buy mattress pads with which to acoustically treat your studio.) Acoustic sound absorption foam is well-suited to alleviate slap and flutter echo, the two most common problems in rooms not specifically designed for music recording and performance. In fact, foam can turn even the most cavernous warehouse or gymnasium into a suitable acoustic environment. |
Sound Diffusion
( 5 items )
Acoustic sound diffusion keeps sound waves from grouping, so there are no hot spots or nulls in a room. In fact, sound diffusion greatly widens the "sweet spot" and lends a strong, 3D sense of openness to a room, making it easier to hear "into" a mix. Diffusion obliterates standing waves and flutter echoes without simply removing acoustic energy from the space or greatly changing the frequency content of the sound. Some famous recording artists like to perform in strongly diffusive environments because of the openness they hear. Acoustic sound diffusion can make a small space seem large and a large space seem even larger. Sound diffusion in a control room imparts the all-important Initial Time Delay (ITD) that keeps early reflections off room boundaries from getting to your ears too soon and smearing the direct sound you hear from your monitors. In conjunction with sound absorption, sound diffusion can effectively turn virtually any space into one that is appropriate and useful for the purpose of recording or monitoring sound with a high degree of accuracy. |
Bass Traps
( 10 items )
Low frequency sound waves are so long - and thus so strong - they are the toughest to control. This is true no matter whether you're attempting to block their transmission to a neighboring space or trying to absorb them to clean up the low frequency response within a room. Controlling low frequency sound is harder than controlling mid or high frequency sound and generally requires more effort and expense. Luckily, the Auralex line of acoustic bass traps can help! |

ISO Series
( 7 items )
Auralex takes our "Total Sound Control" mission to heart in the Iso Series™- Instant Sound Optimzers. Each is specifically engineered to address problems associated with individual sound sources. Whether it is reference monitor resonance with a desk (MoPADs), the need for high-definition drum sounds (HoverDeck), true response from your prized guitar rig (GRAMMA), or frustration from off-axis bleed into microphones (Aural•Xpanders)... The Auralex ISO Series of products can take your music to a higher level. |
Construction
( 6 items )
If one of your main concerns in achieving studio acoustics is stopping sound from traveling in or out of your room, this is most likely addressed with a multi-layered studio construction approach - adding mass and/or airspace to your existing structure or better yet, building a room within a room. Auralex Studiofoam acoustic absorption panels are not an acoustic sound barrier, so it will do little to stop sound from traveling through your walls, ceiling or floor. |

Adhesives
( 4 items )
The world's best acoustic foam adhesives, guaranteed to keep your foam up for as long as you want it there and not to "eat" your foam. Also works great to attach various materials to each other during construction of your studio. Our adhesives apply easily and give a solid, permanent bond that actually improves the sound isolation of your construction. You don't want to use Liquid Nails brand because its very manufacturer published a memo some time back advising that it not be used with acoustic foam due to possible chemical interactions that can cause the foam to disintegrate prematurely. | |
