DigiTech Whammy Ricochet & Dirty Robot
Musikmesse 2016 takes place this weekend, and ahead of the event DigiTech has announced two very cool, new fx pedals... the Whammy Ricochet and the Dirty Robot!
The new FX pedals follow DigiTech's tradition of releasing innovative fx that are perfect for the more creative and experimental players, and will be released in May 2016:
DigiTech Whammy Ricochet: A pedalboard-friendly WhammyA Whammy without expression pedal? Yes, it works! The Whammy Ricochet takes the popular Whammy pitch shifting effect and places it in a pedal with a small form factor. Instead of using a foot treadle to manipulate pitch bending rate, such as those found on traditional DigiTech Whammy pedals, the Whammy Ricochet bends the pitch of the incoming note at a rate determined by shift and return controls. You might be surprised but, in fact, it works pretty much the same as the traditional Whammy - and in a much more pedalboard-friendly size!
As you can see, you can totally nail classic Whammy sounds made famous by guitarists such as Jack White in the White Stripes, and The Edge in U2. The Whammy Ricochet allows guitarists to bounce their sound up or down in pitch in controlled or crazy shifts. The Whammy Ricochet offers seven pitch selections: 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, Octave, Double Octave, and Octave+Dry, as well as a toggle to select up or down for the selected pitch. The Whammy Ricochet also has a latching footswitch mode so the tone can rise or fall to the selected pitch and stay there. An LED ladder shows the shift trajectory at all times. All these controls combine to create classic Whammy pitch shifting as well as new sounds never heard before.

The Whammy Ricochet provides two modes of operation: the Classic Whammy algorithm and Chords, the modern algorithm from the Whammy DT. The classic mode is ideal for single note soloing while the chords mode is best suited for the pitch shifting of full chords. The mode can be changed while the effect is on or off.
The unit’s responsive Trajectory LED Ladder lights in sequential order to provide a visual indication of pitch shift direction and rate. For example, the LEDs will light from top to bottom when the incoming note is shifted down. Conversely, the LEDs will light from bottom to top when the incoming note is shifted up. The Trajectory LEDs will also chase in the direction of the pitch shift so that you always know what direction is currently selected. To use the Whammy Ricochet pedal, select the desired pitch shifting interval with the pitch control then select the pitch direction with the range switch. Set the footswitch for momentary or latched operation using the momentary switch. To audition the rise and fall rate of the pitch shifting effect, turn the effect on/off using the footswitch; adjust the shift and return controls so that the pitch effect bends to and from the selected interval at the desired rate.
DigiTech Dirty Robot Mini-Synth PedalThe DigiTech Dirty Robot Mini-Synth is an industrial-strength effects pedal that will transform any guitar or bass riff into a booty shakin’ machine. It's designed for the selective guitarist or bassist who demands the highest quality effects in a compact package. The latest in unique, feature-heavy pedals, the Dirty Robot features a staggering seven controls and two different, selectable synth voices: straight envelope-style synthesis (V1) or vocal formant synthesis (V2). Other distinguishing features include true bypass, which allows the guitar tone to remain pristine even when the device is off. A huge variety of cyborg sounds can now come to life with the simple spin of a knob.
To maximize tweakability, a concentric potentiometer features two knobs for MIX/MOD control. The inner MIX knob controls the amount of effect added to the dry (unprocessed) signal. Turning the knob clockwise adds more effect, whereas turning the knob counterclockwise decreases effect. The outer MOD knob adds chorus modulation to the synth signal for classic thickening.
The Dirty Robot’s unique, momentary vibrato allows the effect to be available to the player on-demand via the footswitch. When depressed, the synth signal will modulate with vibrato much like a mod wheel on a keyboard synth, great for emphasizing specific notes or building crescendos. When the footswitch is released, the active/green LED will change to red and the vibrato will stop.
A Drift Knob rotates a full 360? to control morphing between sub, octave and square waveforms. The inner sensitivity knob on the concentric potentiometer sets the trigger sensitivity for synth sweep. Higher settings increase the sensitivity making it easier to trigger the sweep. The outer time knob sets the time for the sweep between the points set with the start and stop knobs, allowing the player to fully customize the synth sweep effect.
The Dirty Robot comes with an included StompLock™, which keeps the settings where the player desires, as well as a pedalboard hook-and-loop pad, designed to attach to surfaces found on most commercial pedalboards.
