Rode's New Ribbon And Video Microphones
NAMM might be over but that hasn't stopped Rode MIcrophones making the biggest simultaneous product launch ever. Loads of intriguing new broadcast/video tech and one seriously sweet ribbon for the studio.
Rode NTG4 and NTG4+
You have to admire a company who look at an incredibly successful, universally praised microphone like the NTG1 and say "Yeah, but what can we improve?". Well the NTG4 manages to do just that by using an entirely new capsule design that improves signal to noise and offers a richer sound quality. Then there's the all new HF Boost feature that helps engineers overcome the loss of high frequencies when using a windshield. Pretty compelling reasons but the NTG4+ (right) goes that little bit further by also including a Li-Ion that can contain 150+ hours of charge time and will recharge over standard USB.
RodeLink Wireless Systems
While the NTG4 might be more of an update than a wholly new product the Rodelink system is brand spanking new. Rode have designed a versatile system that aims to make quality wireless systems affordable for musicians, engineers and producers in every field. Their first offering is the Filmmaker Kit, a wireless system consisting of transmitter, receiver and lavalier microphone.
NTR Ribbon Microphone
Last but certainly not least is this new ribbon microphone, no switches, wireless gizmos or digital technology here just incredible sound. Ribbons have made a serious comeback after decades in the doldrums and are being appreciated for their classic, smooth sound, modern developments have allowed Rode to retain that essential timbre while improving high end definition. It's also worth pointing (as if you could have missed it) but it is absolutely stunning to look at.
