Guitar Pedals, DJ Decks & Drum Kits - Summer NAMM 2014
SUMMER NAMM 2014 HIGHLIGHTS!
It's that time of year when we get lots of exciting new releases, and Summer NAMM 2014 hasn't been any different. It's been very much quality rather than quantity, with some exciting DJ equipment and a few interesting guitar pedals that have gained our attention.
Let's find out our top picks from Summer NAMM 2014!
This was definitely the best thing that we saw.
But back to the new gear... here's our top picks.
Pioneer PLX-100 Analogue Turntable
Vinyl is back. After 20 years in the DJ industry, Pioneer are celebrating their success with an exciting release that many loyal Pioneer users will find pleasing. The PLX-1000 provides a familiar layout with some modern improvements such as a high-torque direct drive system and detachable cables, with a rugged construction made for heavy club use.
It's straight forward, it's familiar, and we think loads of people are going to love this.
Boss Waza Craft Guitar FX Pedals
BOSS pedals are known nowadays for their rugged build and reliability - but back in the day they were also revolutionary. They have gone back to their routes with these exciting analog re-issues, and the DM-2W in particular will get many guitarists excited. It's about time one of the largest guitar pedal companies had an analog delay in their arsenal.
The term' Waza' means art and technique in Japaneze, and the master craftsman at BOSS, Japan seem to take a lot of pride in this new Waza Craft series.
There are video demos and full details for each of the pedals here:

Boss SD-1W Analog Overdrive
Boss BD-2W Analog Blues Driver
NUMARK NV SERATO DJ CONTROLLERNumark and Serato have paired up on this one and created the ultimate Serato DJ controller that allows DJs to take their eyes away from the screen and focus on their performance. With everything you need, the Numark NV really does look like a Serato user's dream come true.
TC HELICON PLAY ELECTRIC
This is an interesting one for guitarists that sing either lead or backing vocals as well. We all know TC Electronic make great guitar pedals, and the Play Electric combines a multi guitar FX pedal with some of TC Helicon's top vocal effects. Not only do you have both sets of effects through one compact box, but the Play Electric tracks what chords you are playing so that when using the harmony effect it will all be spot on. Pretty clever! It will be interesting to see whether bands start to use these types of guitar pedals rather than a pedal board - it certainly packs in a lot of features into a reasonably sized box.
PRESONUS AUDIOBOX iSERIES
The newest addition to the Presonus AudioBox interfaces is the iSeries, which records at a better quality and allows you to record multi-track recordings on your iPad, Mac or PC!. Record at 24-bit & 96kHz through the upgraded pre-amps for a clearer, pristine sound than ever before. Home studios are going to sound pretty sweet after this summer...
Pearl Crystal BeatsThe idea behind the Pearl Crystal Beats is pretty cool. They look different, are lighter to carry than a wooden set of drums which makes travel to/from gigs more pleasant and you get a different sound out of these (which isn't a bad thing!).
With these LEDs around the rim we are sure it has the 'WOW' factor for gigging in dark venues. It doesn't matter if you're at the back of the stage, you will stand out the most with a set of Crystal Beats*
*not guaranteed - depends on how dramatic your guitarist's solos are.
