Home Studios

They’re in more people’s garages and spare rooms than you think, and we’ve been looking into some of the most elaborate home studios around.

Let’s start off with an unlikely home studio offender – Esquire magazine. Their objective was to create the ultimate bachelor pad that included a top-quality home recording studio that is home to an impressive array of high-end hardware courtesy of TC Electronic, Moog, Blue Microphones, Avid, Fender and Gibson. The thing that got us though is the bespoke VocalBooth™ that is made up of the Diamond Series enclosure with Scottish cashmere lining, hardwood floor, a mirrored-glass door and stainless steel trim.

In Will.i.am’s luxurious Los Feliz home studio you’ll find the likes of a vintage Fender Rhodes electric keyboard, which was used on the road by Black Eyed Peas and is now encased in leather and nail head upholstery, complete with carved claw and ball feet.

Imogen Heap, solo artist who is best known for her contributions to the US TV drama ‘The OC’, has the pinkest home studio we’ve ever seen that’s jam-packed with synths, MIDIs and ‘cool noise-making toys’.

Situated a short journey away from Paris, Alan Braxe, part of Stardust and creator of club house classic “Music Sounds Better With You”, has a fascinating collection of classic computer music equipment. Same goes for Braxe’s mate Fred Falke, who has enough Korg kit to fill a warehouse with.

It’s not all glitz and glam with ‘celebrity’ home studios though. Session guitarist Tim Pierce used to keep his speakers in an ammo case in his old town house and you won’t find any fancy DAWs in Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl home studio in Virginia – however, his fridge is pretty awesome. So awesome, in fact, you should take a look for yourself:

Here is a collection of some unusual recording studios that we wouldn't mind owning.

But what we really wanna know is what does YOUR home studio look like? Post pictures on our Facebook page so we can have a gadge at your gadgets.
