Record Store Day 2014
This 19th April get yourself down to your local record store for the annual Record Store Day!
Originally started by the US, Record Store Day cottoned on in Great Britain seven years ago and looks like it’s here to stay in order to celebrate the unique independent sector. But what’s so good about Record Store Day?
Well, first of all there are loads of musical festivities happening, including performances, meet and greets with artists, DJs, in-store quizzes and more. There’s also over 600 special vinyl and CDs that have been made and will be released exclusively for the day, from artists such as Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, Oasis and even The Muppets. Xfm, Media Partners of Record Store Day, have even released a limited-edition vinyl consisting of some of the best up-and-coming artists of the age.
John Kennedy, host of Xfm’s ‘X-poser’ show, said: “The ‘XFM X-Posure Sessions On Vinyl’ album is a selection of 12 of my favourite session tracks from the last couple of years. It’s an all British cast of new and new-ish bands and artists. For me, this album is a bit special - it is a piece of vinyl treasure, and it won’t be digitally available.”
More than 240 venues across the UK have signed up for this year’s Record Store Day, so show your love for your local independent music store and get over there this Saturday.
