Gear goggles at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend

Ellie Goulding Gear

The weather wasn't always spectacular but that didn't stop everyone having a great time. We had our eyes on the stage rather than the skies however, seeing what gear everyone was using. Above you can see Ellie Goulding in full flow, having moved beyond her folky origins and embracing technology, using a Korg PadKontrol (discontinued but try the nanoPad) at the front of the stage and some nice vintage Moog synths.

Bring Me The Horizon Gear

No strangers to technology, Bring Me The Horizon and Alt-J were rocking Novation Impulse controllers. We've gone over Alt-J's love of Novation gear previously.

Biffy Clyro

We've covered the Biffy lad's gear recently.

Here's Biffy bassist James Johnston rocking his favoured Ashdown rig.
Simon Neil Guitar
Simon Neil is known to be a Strat fan, working with Squier to produce a signature model.

Foals Gear
Foals Moog
Another act embracing big synth sounds, they don't come much bigger than a Moog Voyager.
Foals On Stage
Then again you need a big synth if you're going to compete not one but two stacks of Orange amps.

Frightened Rabbit

They've been gaining a lot of steam recently and have certainly come along way since playing the Scottish hometown they share with this Dolphiner.

Their keys rig comprises an M-Audio Axiom Pro (top, now Axiom AIR) and a Nord with a pedal used for hands on tweaking (see box below). We can also spy an Orange amp and a nice red Fender Jag.
Frightened Rabbit Pedals

You can see a bit of tweaking going on with this pedal during the set. Looks rather like an Electro Harmonix Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai to us.

Further highlights

Vampire Weekend Pedals

We got a quick look at Vampire Weekend's pedal board, replete with a Electro Harmonix POG and Boss Expression Pedal.

Also on stage with Vampire Weekend was a Roland SPD-SX drum pad set but it might almost be easier to list the artists who weren't using some Roland drum pad. With triggered samples and electronic percussion being popular in today's genre bending bands it's no surprise to find the company which defined the drum machine making an appearance.
