Get The Scoop On Jake Bugg's Gear

If life is a rollercoaster then Jake Bugg is very much at the start when you just keep rising and it feels like you'll never stop, with a celebrated performance at T In The Park, number one album and touring with Noel Gallagher's 'High Flying Birds'. Despite this runaway success Jake seems to have still have his feet on the ground, telling NME that being on tour with Noel mainly involves having "...to make sure we get enough sleep, get practice in and don’t ruin our voices." Another sign of this is that he's still brandishing his trusty Yamaha FG700MS on the world stage. We've always loved it's warm, rounded tone, as have our customers but it's always nice to have a little bit of celebrity confirmation.

Simply comment at the bottom of the page saying "I want to win a Yamaha FG700MS guitar with Dolphin Music", and you'll be entered into a draw to win one.

The competition will end at 12:00PM on Friday 14th December, when a winner will be picked at random from all valid entries. Entrants must be UK residents and over 18. Prizes must be claimed within 30 days. T&C's apply. If you don't use Facebook please e-mail your entry to media@dolphinmusic.co.uk

No need to worry if you don't win as you can always get the FG700MS with either a free stand or free gig bag from Dolphin.

A Young Dylan

Jake Bugg's earnest lyrics and raw style have drawn comparisons to Dylan it's not a big surprise to find Jake has an electric side to him too, although it's not taken him several years to get his rock on. 'Taste It' conjures up a bit of the early British blues explosion with some licks that wouldn't be out of place on early Stones or Yardbirds records. To get that sound Jake has turned to the classic rock chime combination of Telecaster and Vox amp.

It appears to be a head/cab comination that's beng played in the video but there's little mistaking that defined twang on individual notes and crunchy chords, to get all the Vox look and feel at a great price try the AC4 Head and Cab or go all out on an AC15 or AC30. The Tele has the unmistakable 3 saddle bridge which many consider an essential part of the guitar's tone, so it really has to be a 50's model whether it's from Squier, the amazing Baja Telecaster or the full blown recreation from Fender USA.

Also featured appear to be a Fender Aerodyne Bass with cream binding and silver face Fender Bassman. Jake appears to be singing into a vintage Telefunken or Neumann mic, these change hands for over £5000 these days so if you want that sweet, open sound why not try a modern classic valve mic from sE Electronics.

Another Jake Bugg Youtube favourite is this video of Jake playing Two Fingers in the studio. You can see some of the same gear appearing again here.
