2011 will see the 24th birthday of the International Guitar Festival of Great Britain. This year’s festival is based in the Wirral and is running from 27th October and throughout November. Featuring music-related events throughout the whole month, as always, this year’s IGF will be celebrating “all things guitar” and is definitely one event not to be missed.
Featured artists in this year’s IGF will include Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings, Bellowhead, Martin Taylor’s Gypsy Journey, Tony Remy & The Blues Experience, classical guitarist Xuefei Yang and Mercury Prize nominated pianist, Gwilym Simcock. There will also be a special concert featuring The Wirral Schools Jazz Orchestra, and guitar virtuosi Esmond Selwyn will be spotlighting the vibrant musical youth scene in the Wirral.
The IGF is the oldest and largest annual guitar festival in the UK and this year will be hosting a number of free concerts and workshops that will cover a multitude of subjects, from guitar playing styles and guitar maintenance to sessions about working within the music industry. The festival will also be highlighting the overall breadth and scope of the guitar and the instrument’s significance and importance in every musical genre.
Tune in to The Riff
The Riff is the official radio station for the International Guitar Festival of Great Britain and have got plenty of exciting material for us this month. Be sure to tune in when you can because The Riff will be featuring exclusive interviews with selected artists who will be playing this year’s festival. The station will also be broadcasting conversations with a number of artists and feature some brief biographies of this year’s performers.
Get Excited with CALM
This year’s IGF is in association with CALM, Campaign Against Living Miserably. CALM is a campaign and a charity dedicated to helping all people, specifically young men, who are struggling with a number of issues and insecurities. The charity offers professional advice, guidance and a number of organized activities and events to get people involved in projects and the local community.
This year, The International Guitar Festival, with support from CALM, will be presenting a prize draw with a tonne of amazing prizes to be won. There’s something for everyone!
