Fender Release New Generation Entry-Level Guitars, Modern Player Series
Introducing the Fender Modern Player SeriesSince its establishment in the 1940s, Fender have been known to produce quality entry-level instruments at extremely reasonable prices. The new Fender Modern Player series of guitars is the next generation of entry-level instruments with improved style, design and performance. The Modern Player series presents four new solid-body electric guitars and three bass guitars in what could be seen as an ‘unconventional’ new take on Fenders well-known and respected instruments. The new series brings the return of some classic favourites and revives some not so popular models from the Fender repertoire.
The 8 Models & Features from the Fender Modern Player Range
The Modern Player Telecaster has been updated in both the Telecaster Plus HSS and Thinline Deluxe models. The Telecaster Plus HSS is a rather special guitar among the Telecaster family as it features a three-way pickup system consisting of Modern Player Strat, Tele and Humbucking pickups on the Vintage-style six-saddle strings-through-body hardtail bridge. Reinventing the classic Telecaster style and design, the Modern Player Telecaster Thinline Deluxe simply exudes elegance and flair. Featuring two single-coil Modern Player MP-90 pickups and three-position pickup switching toggle.
Perhaps the sore thumb of the bunch, the Modern Player Marauder returns from the grave with appealing new modern features including Modern Player Jazzmaster neck pickups, three-coil Fender Triplebucker bridge pickup and five-way pickup switching with lower horn blade selector switch. As it was last seen in the 1960s the Marauder “2.0” is the epitome of the Modern Player series, combining beautifully updated designs with exceptional hardware and performance ability, affordable quality guitars packing a vintage kick.
The new Modern Player Jaguar and Jaguar Bass are simply “no frills” editions of the prevalent Fender models, purely aesthetic quality and performance. The Modern Player Jaguar looks, feels and performs leaner and meaner than ever before. With impressive features like two single-coil Modern Player MP-90 pickups, three-way toggle switching, Jazz Bass- style volume and tone knobs and classic-style Adjusto-Matic bridge with an anchored tailpiece, the Modern Player Jaguar may rival some of the higher end guitars.
Back with a vengeance is the classic Fender Telecaster Bass, featuring an additional massive Modern Player Wide Range Precision Bass bridge pickup. Knurled ‘chrome dome’ neck and bridge pickup volume and master tone controls, vintage style bridge including four brass saddles on an alder body.
Although there have been many Jazz Bass models in the past, the Modern Player Jazz Bass is a “volcanic” new take on the Jazz Bass style as it features something that its predecessors did not, dual Modern Player humbucking Jazz Bass pickups (bridge and centre).
The Dolphin Music Verdict:
The Modern Player series is mainly intended to appeal to entry-level guitarists, but considering the styles and capabilities of these regenerated models, it would not be a surprise if the most established and experienced guitarists were queuing up to get themselves one.
