Everything you need to know: Your Third Amp from Yamaha. THR10 and THR5
Your Third Amp: The Concept
Yamaha have managed to come up with the “next big thing” in the world of guitar amplifiers. Many guitarists will agree that the uber-powerful, great sounding amps they use during stage performances are just not practical for off-stage use. Smaller amplifiers may be suitable for use at home or on the go, however, they do seem to have a reputation for being too much like “copycats” of the larger amps and do not compensate for their size difference in providing a sound suitable for their dimensions.
"An audio interface, a desktop amplifier, stick your electric guitar through it, your bass & your acoustic guitar!! The THR is a posh iPod dock which you can also use for your PC/Laptop speakers."
Created using Virtual Circuitry Modelling (VCM) to model a selection of high-end tube amps such as Fender Twin Reverb and Marshall JMP, the THR amps model exactly how the controls in the larger stage amps work, enabling guitarists to get the same premium sound and effects as a stage amp, without the inconvenient sound levels.
Yamaha THR10 and THR5 Features
The new THR amps from Yamaha combine the 'large' quality sound of a stage amp with the portability and practicality of a smaller product. With the option of both an AC power connection and battery power, it's the perfect amp for both at home and going mobile. Yamaha are releasing two models of the THR, the THR5 and THR10. Both of which are identical in terms of the innovative hybrid nature of the VCM concept, however the THR10 model is slightly larger and enables the use of stomp box effects such as flanger and chorus, which provide the performer with stage amp effects in a light and compact package. In addition to electric guitars, the THR also accommodates both electro-acoustic and bass guitars through audio modelling, so there's no need for additional amplifiers.
With four different USB outputs and a DI connection, The THR is the perfect recording interface for your computer. The amps are capable of recording directly into Cubase software with zero latency or monitoring issues, providing two USB outputs of modelled audio and two for DI recording, so you will always be 100% in control of your sound.
In addition to being a high performance amplifier and recording interface, the THR also enables stereo playback via iPod, mobile phone or computer. Via a jack connection, guitarists are able to play along with pre-recorded audio through the amps premium quality stereo speakers. With a THR amplifier, even when your volume may be low key, your distortion and effects don't have to be.
The THR range is a perfect compromise for off-stage performing, and will surely be a much-appreciated addition to any guitar lover's kit.
